Volcano ProjectMAUNA LOA
Volcano
BIGGEST ERUPTION OF MAUNA LOA VOLCANO ...One of The biggest eruptions from the Mauna Loa Volcano was on March 24, 1984 to April 15, 1984. That eruption maked many families to lost their lifes and material things. Location: Mauna Loa Volcano is located in Hawaii, have an elevation of 4170m, a longitud of 155.608ºW and a latitud of 19.475ºN and is located exactly in the ring of fire, which is the Pacific Ocean.
Volcano description: Mauna Loa shield volcano rises almost 9 km above sea floor to form one of the most largest active volcano in the world. Have an older and larger 6*8 km caldera, is a phyroclastic volcano located in a convergent boundary and itʼt magma is composed of tholeitic basalt.
Background: Mauna Loaʼs magma storage reservoirs started immediately following the most recent eruption in 1984, turning to deflation for almost a decade. In mid-2002, inflation started again, just after a brief swarm of deep long-period (LP) earthquakes. A more intense swarm of several thousand deep Long Period (LP) earthquakes occurred in late 2004, immediately preceding a dramatic increase in inflation rate slowed again in 2006. Mauna Loa volcano have erupted 33 times since 1843 to its most resent eruption in 1984. two of the youngest larger debris avalanches documented in Hawaii traveled nearly 100
km from Mauna Loa; the second of the Alika avalanches was emplaced about 105,000 year ago in 1987. Almost 90% of the surface of the basaltic shield volcano was covered by lavas less than 4000 years old.
Aditional information: Mauna Loa volcano have created benefits and unbenefits to Hawaii. The benefits are that it have created islands, provides natural resources for society, there wouldenʼt be Hawaii without volcanos. Even coral reefts are created in volcanic rocks. Long after the islands formed, continued volcanic activity has given them features that we consider beneficial to society.
