Troubleshooting

I have successfully installed my new Slide Clear pleated screen, but the screen does not fully extend? Occasionally during the shipping process the strings in the screen cartridge can become tangled. To un-tangle the wires, repetitively extend and retract the screen system until the screen fully extends. When retracting the screen system, use enough force to pull the wires free, but not to the point where the screen cartridge detaches from the base jamb mount. The chain on the bottom of the screen has come off of the bottom guide? The screen system is designed to allow the chain to come off of the bottom guide when a person, object or animal unintentionally hits the screen. If this situation occurs, simply place the chain back on the bottom guide. My Slide Clear pleated screen takes an unusually large amount of force to extend and retract, and is not running smoothly

1) If the tensioning strings going across the mesh are too tight, the screen will run rough and require an unusually large amount of force to move the pull-bar. See the adjustment instructions in the User’s Manual to adjust the wire tension for your specific screen model.

2) Check the plastic chain that runs on the bottom of the screen for any debris. Use a vacuum cleaner,

water hose and/or cloth to clean any debris out of the chain. My Slide Clear pleated screen does not fully retract? If your screen does not fully retract, the horizontal tensioning strings are too loose. The more tension you put on the strings, the better the pull-bar will fully retract. Caution: If you put too much tension on the strings the screen will not operate smoothly. See the adjustment instructions in the users manual to adjust the string tension for your specific screen model. My Slide Clear pleated screen does not extend parallel to the jamb profile? See the adjustment instructions in the User’s Manual to adjust the parallelism for your particular screen model. The height of my opening has increased/decreased. Will my Slide Clear pleated screen sti l l operate? Each screen system can tolerate a height fluctuation of 1/4” (6mm) downwards and 1/2” (14mm) upwards. If your rough opening is out more then these tolerances, your screen system will not operate safely. The width of the top track is more then the width of my opening? If the top track is wider then your opening you will be required to cut the top track and bottom guide. Use a chop saw or handsaw to cut top track and bottom guide to the correct width. The top track will equal the total width of the rough opening less 5/8” (15mm). The bottom guide will equal the total width of the rough opening less 7/16” (10mm). Note: Every Slide Clear pleated screen is manufactured to close 1/2” (12.7mm) past the total width of your opening.

Parallelism and Tension Adjustment ST Parallelism Adjustment: Use this adjustment when the pull-bar is not parallel with the jamb

profile

1. Remove the plastic magnet holder and magnet from the pull-bar using a flat head screwdriver. 2. Locate the white plastic adapter at the end of the steel band. 3. Loosen the #2 Philips screw that attaches the steel band to the white plastic adapter. 4. Adjust the parallelism by moving the steel band up and down on the white plastic adapter. Tighten the

screw when the adjustment is complete. Note: This process may have to be repeated more then once to reach the desired level of parallelism.

5. To reinstall the plastic magnet holder and magnet, insert the magnet into the bottom cap on the pull-bar by sliding it downwards.

6. Snap the magnet holder into the bottom half of the pull-bar. 7. Slightly bend the top half of the magnet holder to insert the magnet into the top cap on the pull-bar. 8. Once both ends of the magnet are inserted into the top and bottom caps on the pull-bar, clip the top

half of the magnet holder into the pull-bar. 9. Double check the magnet holder is completely snapped into the pull-bar. 10. Fully extend and retract the screen system to ensure a smooth operation.

ST Tension Adjustment: Use this adjustment when the screen does not operate smoothly or does

not fully retract

1. Check the string tension by fully extending the screen system and gently pulling down on each string running across the mesh.

2. Each individual string has a tension screw located on the inside of the ST base jamb profile. Locate the screw for the particular wire and loosen it with a #2 Philips screwdriver.

3. The further away the screw is positioned from the screw, the more tension you will apply to the string. 4. Once you have found the correct tension for the string, tighten the screw. 5. This adjustment process can be done for each string running across the mesh. 6. Once all of the strings have the correct tension, fully retract and extend the screen system to ensure a

smooth operation. If your screen requires further adjustment beyond these instructions please visit www.slideclear.com/screens, or contact the nearest Slide Clear service center for more information.

COASTAL REGIONS

Slide Clear’s standard and custom 2604 aluminum paint finishes are warranted for a period of ten (10) years against defects resulting in cracking, peeling and other loss of adhesion. If any Slide Clear product has been operated and/or installed in a coastal environment (within three (3) miles/five (5) kilometers of a seacoast or salt water), the standard or custom 2604 aluminum paint finish will be warranted for a period of one (1) year. Anodized finishes are warranted for a period of three (3) years unless the Slide Clear Inc. product has been operated and/or installed in a coastal environment (within three (3) miles/five (5) kilometers of a seacoast or salt water), the anodized finish will be warranted for a period of one (1) year.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Regular maintenance and cleaning is imperative to prolong the screen’s smooth operation and longevity. The screen mesh should be lightly cleaned, on a monthly basis, to maintain an unobstructed view and airflow. While the screen is extended, remove any build up with a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush nozzle or a duster. Take extreme caution to not tear or rip the screen mesh. We do not recommend using any type of cleaning agent on the screen mesh as this may cause unintentional deterioration. It is also recommend that you clean the wheels on the bottom of the pull-bar with compressed air, on a monthly basis. This is to ensure that no debris is effecting the operation of the screen system. To clean the wheels, retract the screen and remove the screen cartridge. Place the screen cartridge on a large clean table, as to not cause any damage to the coating, and blow out the bottom of the pull-bar with compressed air. After you have cleaned the wheels, re-install the screen cartridge. To help prevent any future damage, always keep the bottom guide clean and clear of debris.

WIND OPERATION

On large openings the screen mesh acts like a sail when there are gusty or windy conditions present. In gusty or windy conditions it is recommended to keep the screen retracted to reduce the possibility of any resulting damage. Damage as a result of exposure to wind is not covered under this Warranty. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
