What are the three main states of matter?

The three main

states of matter

are solid, liquid,

and gas.

Page 3: Alex L - PPT

A solid has a definite volume and mass. This means that solids retain there shape, neither filling nor conforming to the shape of

the container. My three examples are a pencil, teeth, and a pillow.

This is a diagram of solid molecules. The hotter they get the faster they go,

the colder they get the slower they move.

Liquid

A liquid has a definite volume, but no definite shape. This means that liquids do not fill, but conform to the shape of the container.

My three examples are the ocean, the Gatorade in the bottle, and a cloud.

Gas

Gas has no definite volume or shape. This means that gases fill and conform to the shape of the container. My three examples are a balloon filled with helium, the propane in the container, and the

air pocket in a tea kettle.
