Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
CAST BIOS & HEADSHOTS
Ali Amni (Max Detweiler): Ali is a new addition to Alexander Mackenzie’s music scene, but is in no way a newcomer when it comes to showcasing his vocal talents. Last year, Ali played the Beast in La Belle et La Bete (the French version of Beauty and the Beast). He has experience in various choirs, and has also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist. Last year, Ali received a certificate for Top Performer in his school. He is thankful for the new group of friends that he has grown close with throughout the course of the past four months of rehearsal. As his character Max would say, everyone in this class is “a little odd, but charming.”
Nina Cattle (Brigitta von Trapp):Nina is very excited to be a part this year’s musical. The Sound of Music is her second musical since she began high school (last year she appeared in Bye Bye Birdie!), but she has done multiple others including Annie as Molly, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Twisted as Sneezy. Nina is also curently in Arts Alexander Mackenzie for drama, and would like to say she will never forget her fellow von Trapp kids.
Natalie Cohen (Frau Schmidt): This is Natalie’s second year performing in Alexander Mackenzie’s musical. Some of her previous credits include Bye Bye Birdie!, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King. Natalie takes pride in all aspects of the musical this year, from the scene work to the sets. She will always remember her own version of the musical theatre experience, which includes all of the memories that this cast has created in and out of school.
Morgan Corkery (Frau Schmidt):This is Morgan’s first year performing in Alexander Mackenzie’s musical. She is a member of the Drama Arts program and has been looking forward to joining musical theatre throughout her high school career. She is proud of The Sound of Music - excellence was achieved in all areas. This experience is certainly something she will keep with her forever.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Kathleen “Katie” Fitz-Gerald (Baroness Elberfeld): Katie’s first year in the musical has been a blast. Her past credits include playing Motor Mouth Maybelle in Hairspray and directing/state managing pieces at Arts Night 2012. She would like to thank her family for being so supportive and her
new friends for making this experience a great one. She hopes you all enjoy the show!
Ashley Gamble (Sister Sophia):Ashley is so excited to be a part of this year’s production. She has been looking forward to the show since she first arrived at the school. In the past, Ashley has played Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and has taken a part in more talent shows than she can count! Singing has been a part of Ashley’s life for as long as she can remember, and she knows that it always be a part of her. The musical theatre class, and all the people around her, have been so helpful and supportive, making the musical an exceedingly enjoyable experience. Ashley would like to thank her mom, for
always being so supportive, and for putting up with her ever-changing schedule. She would like to thank her step-dad for always lifting her spirits when needed.
Ana Ghookassian (Sister Margaretta):Ana has had an amazing time with everyone in this year’s production of The Sound of Music. This is Ana’s second time in an Alexander Mackenzie production, as she was in last year’s Bye Bye Birdie! She has enjoyed being the head of costumes and participating in the creative process of putting together a show. She has especially enjoyed witnessing the amount of commitment and responsibility everyone in the cast has devoted to the show. Furthermore, she would like to thank everyone for their hard work!
Dakotah Godfrey (Steindhart/Priest): While Dakotah originally wasn’t supposed to be in this course - as he “wasn’t really a musical theatre type of person” - he has really gotten into the show and has no regrets about joining the class. Before coming toAMHS, Dakotah was in the Arts Drama Program at Widdifield High School. Dakotah always enjoys performing the von Trapp party scene, especially when he gets to waltz! He would like to thank all of the teachers and volunteers who have put in their own time and hard work to make this show a success.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Victor Griffiths (Baron Elberfeld):This is Victor’s first show at Alexander Mackenzie High School, and he is so thankful for the experience of working on The Sound of Music.
Ali Grosh (Friedrich von Trapp): Ali started performing in school musicals in grade 7, after seeing The Sound of Music with her class. She has been in shows such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and has had the opportunity to be in Bye Bye Birdie! twice (once Margie, then as Nancy). Ali took the musical theatre course to help further her dream of becoming an actress. The best part about taking the course was being able to develop a second (and third) family. Ali’s favourite part of the show is performing “So Long, Farewell” and being “Friedrich the Fabulous”. Ali would like to thank her mom for putting up with the constant singing around the house, driving her early in the morning to the theatre, and back home again late at night. She would also like to thank her “sister” Iona and her “new mother” Yasaman for helping her understand her character and for giving life to Friedrich von Trapp. Ali sends another shoutout to the von Trapp family for simply being awesome.
Niusha “Nikki” Halajha (Kurt von Trapp):The Sound of Music is Nikki Halajha’s first show at AMHS! Nikki believes that it is thanks to the Arts program (Drama) that she was able to prepare for the role of Kurt von Trapp. She has enjoyed her time with the new friends she made. Lastly, Nikki would like to thank her mom for supporting her and always being there through the easy and the tough times.
Brittany Khanna (New Postulant):The Sound of Music is Brittany’s first production with Alexander Mackenzie, and she is proud of the work that the cast and crew put into this excellent show.
Zachary Levitt (Herr Zeller): Zac loves theatre, so much so that he feels that the stage is his true home. He has always loved acting and dancing and has been a performer for as long as he can remember. Some of his past credits include Bye Bye Birdie!, Willy Wonka Jr., and High School Musical, amongst others.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Zoe Lindsay-Kolari (Elsa Schraeder):Zoe has always loved the arts - as a student of the first graduating class of the Arts Alexander Mackenzie Drama Program she lives and breathes music and acting, throwing herself one hundred percent into every project she commits to. Zoe has done three shows with Alexander Mackenzie beginning with Beauty and the Beast in grade 10 playing the role of Lefou. Continuing on in her high school career, Zoe was in Bye Bye Birdie! in grade 11 as Ursula, and she concludes with her grade twelfth year in this brilliant production. Zoe preformed in her first musical in grade 7 at Pleasantville Public School in High School Musical in which Zoe was featured as the leading role of
Sharpay. Zoe would like everyone to take something special away from this production - the cast has put their hearts and souls into this classic musical and she sincerely hopes that every viewer experiences that magic.
Alexandra Lippa (Mother Abbess): Alex is a grade 11 student at Alexander Mackenzie, and is in the Vocal Arts program. This is her second year in the school’s musical - last year she played Mae “Mama” Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie!. Alex loves to
sing and act, and plans to pursue it professionally in the future.
Iona Tangerine McMahon (Louisa von Trapp): Iona was enchanted when she learned AMHS would be doing the The Sound of Music this year. This is her second year taking the musical theatre course. Her previous credits include You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Aladdin, and Bye Bye Birdie!. She never would have known how illuminated
she felt on stage if not for her amazing castmates, the stage crew, set designers, choreographers and directors. She would like to thank Sabrina for always making her laugh and helping her climb mountains, Morgo Starr for going crazy over sets and listening to her complain every day, and Ana for the Chandler Bing impressions that brightened her day. Iona would also like to acknowledge the unforgettable memories that the von Trapp family leaves with her. She would like to thank Yasaman for becoming her mentor, and Liesl, Freidrich, Kurt, Brigitta, Baby Flarta and Gretl for becoming confidants and friends. Overall, Iona wants her fellow actors to know she is thankful for her onstage family, for they have turned the stage into a second home.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Teri Michalargias (Liesl von Trapp):Teri has been in many musicals in the past, some including Hair, A Chorus Line, and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. The Sound of Music is her first musical with Alexander Mackenzie, and she is very excited to be playing Liesl von Trapp. As an aspiring performer, she joined the course for the experience and the memories as she loves to sing, dance and act. Her favourite memory during the rehearsal process, has to be when the Von Trapp children rehearsed for the very first time. The chemistry was perfect, and she couldn’t be happier with how well they bonded with each other and the rest of the cast. She has definitely come out of this experience with many new skills, the most important one developed is to march in sync with six other children.
Kya Mosey (Liesl von Trapp): Kya has had the opportunity to partake in various productions with Arts Alexander Mackenzie High School including starring as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing, Kim MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie!, and Mademoiselle D’Arque in Beauty and the Beast. Kya has also appeared in Saint Andrew’s College’s Focus Festival and recently completed a run of Crazy For You with the SAC Dramatic Society. Kya has also been an avid competitor in the annual Sears Drama Festival since 2010, and will be taking the stage in a production within The Toronto Paprika Festival hosted at the Tarragon Theatre this spring. A proud member of the first graduating class of Arts Alexander Mackenzie High School’s Dramatic Arts Program, a vocal student at Studio David Bertram, and a fierce rugby player – Kya thrives on determination and hard work. She hopes that viewing The Sound of Music is as memorable an experience as it was to bring this timeless classic to life.
Robert Naster (Franz):Robert has been in two musicals at Alexander Mackenzie and he absolutely loves it!! His previous shows include, Bye Bye Birdie!, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. Robert takes great pride in being in the musical as Franz. He’s grateful to be in the musical with a cast that is so well-knit and dedicated to the production.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Sean Nicholas (Captain Georg von Trapp / Rolf Gruber):Sean is a Arts program music student at Alexander Mackenzie HS. He has been in a number of other musicals including and adaption of the opera Hansel and Gretel,
and Bye Bye Birdie!. He enjoys singing both in his spare time and at school, but his true ambition is to become a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Sean has found The Sound of Music to be challenging but the experience was awesome.
Yasaman Nouri (Maria Rainer):Yasaman is no stranger to the stage, for she has indulged in theatre by means of the first graduating class of Arts Alexander Mackenzie High School’s Dramatic Arts Program. Yasaman’s past credits include Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, Randolph MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie!, Chip in Beauty and the Beast, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Aladdin, and Magician’s Nephew. She has previously participated in the competitive Sears Drama Festival and was a part of a Modern Times Theatre Company production. Yasaman is thrilled to be playing the leading role in her final year of high school. She hopes that she does justice to this iconic character in this classic musical and hopes that the audience will rejoice in the magic of music and theatre. She would like to thank her von Trapp family members for amplifying this experience and making it an unforgettable part of her senior year.
Dillon Oag (Admiral von Schreiber): This is Dillon’s debut at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. Dillon is very excited to play
the role of Admiral von Schreiber. This is Dillon’s first play at Alexander Mackenzie High School, however, elsewhere Dillon has been in Oliver! as a bow-street runner, and a waiter in Hello Dolly!. Dillon would thank his family and friends for giving him this opportunity.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Katie Orrett (Louisa von Trapp):Katie is thrilled to be Louisa in this year’s production, especially since The Sound of Music is her all-time favorite musical. It doesn’t hurt that her twin sister is in the pit band, and her cousin Dakotah is also in the course. This isn’t Katie’s first time on stage - she was in last year’s production of Bye Bye Birdie! as Helen, and has also been in Hairspray as Velma Von Tussle, and High School Musical, as well as three musical revues with the Children’s Theatre Project. She was also a member of the chorus for Opera By Request’s production of Elixr of Love in November, and is a part of the Vocal Arts Program here at Alexander Mackenzie. Katie would like to thank her friends, family and teachers for all of their love and support.
Allison Pajak (Marta von Trapp): Allison is excited to be playing the role of Marta in The Sound of Music. This show has always been one of her favourite musicals and she is thrilled to be a part of it. This is her first year in musical theatre at AMHS, but she has been in other musicals such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory as Veruca Salt, and BAPS on Broadway, in which she sang The Sound of Music. Allison joined musical theatre to further her acting and singing experiences, and to learn more about what it takes to put on a musical. She would like to thank Iona for being supportive and giving her as many nicknames as there are von Trapps, Nina for being a great new friend and von Trapp sister, Yasaman for being so supportive and really helping her gain more confidence in her singing and acting. A final shootout goes to all of her von Trapp siblings and the entire cast for being so welcoming and becoming a second family.
Souen Park (Sister Katherine):Souen is excited to play Sister Katherine this year in The Sound of Music. Last year Souen performed in Bye Bye Birdie!. She enjoys being on the stage and she loves to perform. Souen is also a member of the school choir, Mackenzie Singers, and Women’s Choir. She would like to thank her supportive parents, siblings, and her friends.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Martin Pymm (Captain Georg von Trapp):Martin has been in three Alexander Mackenzie productions and plans to return for a final fourth next year. He sees this year as a well earned step up from being a fork in Beauty and the Beast in 2010. Martin thinks that he may be an old
soul trapped in a young body because of his classical interests such as Tchaikovsky, Madame Butterfly, and La Traviata. Martin intends to study operatic performance and hopefully - one day in the distant future - become part of an opera company.
Rebecca Schreider (Sister Berthe): Rebecca has enjoyed her time as part of the musical theatre family and is looking forward to preforming as Sister Bethe in the Sound of Music. This is Rebecca’s first musical with Alexander Mackenzie, although she has been preforming since she was 7. She has loved
getting to know everyone in the course, and has also enjoyed learning about how to improve as a vocalist and an actress. She would like to thank her parents for their support with the arts and driving her to and from rehearsals. She also sends her love to her fellow nuns from the Nonnberg Abby.
Jessica Singer (Gretl von Trapp):Jessica is very excited to be performing in The Sound of Music as Gretl. Jessica has been acting since grade 3, dancing from the age of 6, and has continued doing
so up until this year. Jessica has performed in many other musicals such as Glee, High School Musical, The Lion King, the Genie in Aladdin, Annie in Annie, and many more. This is her first performance at Alexander Mackenzie, and she is excited to perform with her new friends. Jessica would like to thank her friends, family, and teachers for their on-going enthusiasm and support.
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Sabrina Shallop (Mother Abbess): The Sound of Music is Sabrina’s second production with Alexander Mackenzie High School (she starred as Rosie in last year’s Bye, Bye Birdie!) and she is absolutely delighted to be playing the Mother Abbess. Singing has been her passion for as long as she can remember and she hopes to inspire those who have not found their dreams to do so. Perhaps your happiness is closer than it would seem, though seldom does one find living hills that sing there.
Abby Weisbrot (Maria Rainer): This is Abby’s second musical theatre production with Alexander Mackenzie High School and she is thrilled to be playing the role of Maria this year. Abby has also been involved in productions, such as Bye Bye Birdie! as Rosie, Oklahoma as Ado Annie, Seussical as Sour Kangaroo, Beauty and The Beast as Belle, Once Upon a Mattress as Ensemble, Annie as Annie, Lost in Yonkers as Bella, and This Is a Play as Older Female Actor. This is Abby’s second year competing in the Sears Drama Festival, and will be starring in This Play Is Like ___ at the Tarragon Theatre this spring as part of The Toronto Paprika Festival. Abby is proud to be graduating from the Dramatic Arts Program at Alexander Mackenzie High School this year, and wants to thank her friends and family for being so supportive of all her aspirations.
John Wen (Hauptmann): John has performed in a variety of musical productions both at Alex Mac and at his former school in China. Already an excellent piano and impresario player, John felt the pull to try his hand at singing. As a quality musical performer, John knew he had talents to offer the musical theatre program. John hopes you enjoy the waltzing scene...he knows he enjoyed learning how to dance!
Alexander Mackenzie High School Presents: The Sound of Music
Sphinx Wu (Ullrich):Sphinx has hit the stage many times before joining the cast of Alexander Mackenzie High School’s The Sound of Music but not as an ordinary musician - Sphinx is a magician! In China, Sphinx worked closely with a professional teacher performed his magic shows for his high school audience three times each
year. Next year, he will be receiving a certificate from the International Magician’s Society. The artistic and musical aspects of AMHS’s production drew Sphinx to this fantastic performance opportunity.
Caileigh Young (stage manager):Caileigh is beyond thrilled to be involved in Alexander Mackenzie High School’s musical for the third year in a row! She has previously performed in several productions, but has since moved backstage, and has stage managed for Beauty and the Beast, Bye Bye Birdie!, and The Sound of
Music. She loves being a part of the creative process of putting on a show, and hopes that you enjoy all of the hard work the cast and crew have put into this production! She would like to thank the cast, crew, and the Dreamers for making her last year at Alexander Mackenzie truly unforgettable. You’ve all done a fantastic job, and I could not be more proud of you.
