Advanced Biofuels

• Algae.Tec is an advanced biofuels company.

• Algae.Tec produces high-yield algae growth and harvesting technology through the McConchie-Stroud System.

• The McConchie-Stroud System is designed to cultivate algae virtually anywhere, including marginal land or industrialized areas.

• The system is designed for scalability and minimal land footprint and water usage.

Fuel of the Future - Now

Algae.Tec produces vegetable oil and a biomass of simple sugars and edible protein.

Current market prices (Feb 2011) for crude vegetable oil exceed USD$1,000 per tonne and USD$400 per tonne for biomass.

Algae.Tec pilot plant studies show the McConchie-Stroud System is capable of delivering:

• a total manufacturing cash cost of approximately $200/mt, which is equivalent to less than $40 per barrel• exceptional dry algae crop productivity of 250 metric tons per container module • commercial projects of more than 1,000 modules

A standard plant consisting of 500 modules will produce 125,000 mta of dry algae and will capture over 250,000 mta of stackgas CO2 emissions.

The Company

Algae.Tec was founded in 2007 and has offices in Atlanta, Georgia and Perth, Australia.

Algae.Tec has a highly experienced global team with over 200 years of technical, professional and business expertise in key energy and environmental industries, and core competencies in biofuel technologies and energy markets.

Algae.Tec has assessed the various alternative algae technologies, and conducted hundreds of laboratory, bench-scale and product trials.

This has resulted in detailed engineering evaluations, culminating in a full-sized module pilot plant study. All the costs and yields have been based upon the outcomes from this study.

A third party validation demonstration plant Shoalhaven One, is now in preparation for operation in Australia.

Process Overview

Select microalgae species defined for primary algae oil production with system flexibility to utilize multiple strains for production of a full range of renewable biofuels.

Integration of stackgas CO2 sources (power plants and other energy intensive

facilities) for effective recovery of greenhouse emissions, recycle/recovery of stackgas emissions and use of waste heat conversion energy.

Process Overview

Nutrient system includes an optimized combination of nitrogen, phosphorous and key elements/additives per algal species, sourced primarily from conventional fertilizers.

Water is the critical hydrogen source for photosynthesis with operation in fresh water and high salinity environments. Certain wastewater streams with high levels of nutrients can be effectively utilized as the primary water source for algae production.

Process Overview

Primary light energy supply is via a parabolic solar collection system with capabilities to extend daily production. Process uniquely controls light intensity and optimal wavelengths to maximize photosynthetic efficiency with an indirect light distribution network.

The modular photo-reactor system features a unique proprietary “engineered” design, featuring superior mass/heat transfer dynamics and excellent productivity performance within a controlled environment.

Process Overview

Enhanced process technologies are incorporated for algae harvesting, oil extraction, recovery of products and downstream conversion to biofuels and co-products to maximize conversion efficiency and control biofuel product quality.

Products include recovery of algae oil for biodiesel industry, conversion of high carbohydrate biomass to ethanol or high hydrocarbon biomass to renewable distillates, and refinement of algae biomass for animal feed applications.
