ALICE

A 10 minute

Neo-Noir.

• The film emerged over a few months from what was a singular image of a young girl and her camera with a large lens.

• As time went by I found a way to mold a short film out of that image enabling myself to keep a consistent mood and tone.

• The heavy connotations that come with names such as ‘Alice’ are often unavoidable. I made the decision to play upon the concept of Alice in Wonderland, using Alice as a lost and misguided young woman in modern society. I have made a couple of subtle references to the story without anything radical that would draw attention from itself and detract from the story.

• I have taken the archetypal detective of the Film Noir genre and flipped it on its head to tell the tale from the eyes of Alice.

Synopsis

• Alice is a 23 year old photography graduate. She is lead down a dangerous path into the criminal world of crime and corruption. Using her camera, she either captures or distorts reality as a job. Her services come at a price.

• Alice meets Mark, a married man intent on framing a colleague to climb the ranks of his profession. Alice sets out to capture Marks colleague and frame him as the criminal Mark wants him to be.

• Alice soon learns the job is more dangerous than it seems. She thinks she is doing the watching from a distance, but she is also being watched. At the same time Mark appears to have grown attached to Alice, seeing her as his property.

• She is held up at a safe house to avoid unwanted attention, but soon receives threats and frequent visits during the night.

• Alice ultimately uses her sophisticated and advanced manipulation skills to escape the group of men who turn up at the house looking for her. They find no trace of her, only the evidence she leaves behind pointing the finger toward Mark.

Original Soundtrack

Connor

A fluid mix of deep house and bass heavy techno. The soundtrack will coincide with the imagery to create a sense of overbearing dread and a consistently violent ambience.
