What is an author tag?
•Enables content sites to help identify their authors on the site and across the web.
•Author tag links up authors to content. (for example, this content
would be linked up to my name and can be used to find all the stories I’ve written here and on my other sites.)
•Enhances the way the SERPs display your content and put your name and face to your work. (Photo is taken from your G+
profile - it has been proven that people are more likely to click on links with a photo of the person who wrote it included)

Alternative Solution(works with any platform)
•Paste this into the <head> of your source code:
<link rel="author" href="https://plus.google.com/YOURPAGE"/>

• Once you’ve linked your content to you G+ profile, it may take some days or up to a few weeks for your picture to start showing up in search results.
• Don’t forget about GUEST POSTS. Give your blog host the correct HTML which contains a link to your G+ profile. Then add the guest post URL to your “Contributor to” section of your profile.
