TheMalvernHillsConservatorsaretheoldestconservationbodyinEngland,withahistorygoingback127yearstoActsofParliamentoriginallypassedtostopencroachmentsonthehills.TheseActsdefinetheresponsibilitiesoftheConservatorsinratherarcanelanguagewhichwehavetotranslateintomodernworkingpractisesformanagingtheMalvernhills.We’veseenalotofchangesince1884,withfewercommonersgrazingthehills,theriseinvisitorsandnewformsofrecreationaluse,suchasmountainbikingandhanggliding.Wealsohavenewlegalresponsibilitiestoprotectwildlifeandancientmonuments.WeareapproachingtheelectionofanewBoardofConservatorsintheautumn,sowefeelthetimeisrighttostartreviewingourForwardStrategy(whichestablisheskeymanagementprinciples)andourManagementPlan(whichtranslatesthisintoobjectivesspecificareas).WestartedthisprocesswithanOpenDayinMalvernon2ndJuly.So,Iwouldverymuchwelcomeyourviewsonthemanagementofthehillsandcommons.Herearesomequestionstogetyouthinkingabouttheissuesweneedtoaddress:•Doyoustillsupporttheproposaltoreversethespreadofsycamoreandothertreesonthehillslopesandridgesthroughscrubcontrolandgrazing(doyouwantopengrasswithskylarks,meadowpipitandbutterfliesorwoodlandalongtheridge?)•Areyouhappywiththemanagementregimeonthelowercommons,wherewemaintainamixofshort‘urbangrassland’,pastureandhaymeadows(doyou
