Incorporation usually costs

State Tax-exempt status generally simplifies filing responsibilities and tax-exposure (tax-exempt status generally is signified by a certificate or determination letter issued by your state)

If chapter has both state and Federal tax-exempt status, they possibly may not have to file an information return with the state, if they file their 990 with the IRS- check with your state taxing authority.

6. Federal Annual Compliance Requirements for Nonprofits (10 minutes)

Tax filing (if not Fed. Income Tax-Exempt = 501c3, 501c4, 501c6) If chapter doesnt have IRS tax-exempt determination letter stating they are a c3, c4,

c6 organization, they are subject to Federal Income Taxes and must file (and pay) income tax each year
