The Holy Father preached some lines that jumped out to me during his Ash Wednesday Homily. I would like to share these with you. All of the quotes are from his Ash Wednesday Homily.
Deep-seated sin. He started by inviting us to raise our gaze above the small things… “Lent is not just about the little sacrifices we make, but about discerning where our hearts are directed. This is the
core of Lent: asking where our hearts are directed.” One of the things that lowers out gaze is “duplicity and falsehood.” In fact, these weaknesses not only lower our gaze of our heart but “tie it down.” We can also be frozen by our disappointments, frozen by “the paralysis of our discontents. To embark on this journey, we have to unmask these illusions.”
Deep-seated sin that I cannot heal alone. Ah, but the problem is that we cannot fix ourselves, “we cannot heal on our own,” we cannot save ourselves. “All of us have deep-seated vices that we cannot uproot alone. All of us have paralyzing fears that we cannot overcome alone.”
Deep-seated sin that the Lord heal if I allow Him. So how are we healed? “Let us pray once more to the Holy Spirit and rediscover the fire of praise.” It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and every to give You thanks! “Our journey then is about letting him take us by the hand.” Pope Francis pointed out that when St. Paul talks about reconciliation he does not say “reconcile yourself to God,” but rather “be reconciled to God”… “Be reconciled: the journey is not based on our own strength.” Finally, “having come to meet us, He now invites us to return to Him, to rediscover the joy of being loved.” May it be so for us this Lent.

El Santo Padre predicó unas líneas que me llamaron la atención durante su homilía del Miércoles de Ceniza. Me gustaría compartirlos contigo. Todas las citas son de su Homilía del Miércoles de Ceniza.
Pecado profundamente arraigado. Comenzó invitándonos a levantar la mirada por encima de las pequeñas cosas… “La Cuaresma no se trata solo de los pequeños sacrificios que hacemos, sino de discernir hacia dónde se dirige nuestro corazón. Este es el núcleo de la Cuaresma: preguntar hacia dónde se dirige nuestro corazón ". Una de las cosas que baja la mirada es la "duplicidad y falsedad". De hecho, estas debilidades no solo bajan la mirada de nuestro corazón, sino que "lo atan". También podemos estar congelados por nuestras decepciones, congelados por “la parálisis de nuestros descontentos. Para embarcarnos en este viaje, tenemos que desenmascarar estas ilusiones ".
Pecado profundamente arraigado que no puedo curar solo. Ah, pero el problema es que no podemos arreglarnos a nosotros mismos, "no podemos curarnos solos", no podemos salvarnos a nosotros mismos. “Todos tenemos vicios profundamente arraigados que no podemos desarraigar solos. Todos tenemos miedos paralizantes que no podemos superar solos ".
Pecado profundamente arraigado que el Señor sana si se lo permito. Entonces, ¿cómo nos curamos? “Oremos una vez más al Espíritu Santo y redescubramos el fuego de la alabanza”. ¡Es verdaderamente correcto y justo, nuestro deber y nuestra salvación, siempre y cada uno para darte gracias! "Nuestro viaje entonces consiste en dejar que él nos tome de la mano". El Papa Francisco señaló que cuando San Pablo habla de la reconciliación no dice “reconcíliate con Dios”, sino “reconcíliate con Dios”… “Reconcíliate: el camino no se basa en nuestras propias fuerzas”. Finalmente, “habiendo venido a nuestro encuentro, ahora nos invita a volver a Él, a redescubrir la alegría de ser amados”. Que así sea para nosotros esta Cuaresma.

February 28 Dear Apologist, How could God command Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? Isn’t that evil? Genesis 22 records the story of Abraham being told to sacrifice his son Isaac. The ethics of command have been a scandal for Christians for ages because it would seem God commanded a human being to commit a morally evil act. First, we should consider some mitigating factors in this story. At this point in their lives, Isaac was a young man and Abraham was a very old man. If Isaac had wanted to, he could have successfully resisted Abraham’s attempt to sacrifice him. This means Isaac was a willing victim. Second, Abraham knew that God had promised to give him descendants through Isaac. Consequently, Abraham likely suspected that Isaac would somehow survive this experience. The letter to the Hebrews gives us an insight into Abraham’s thoughts: “Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, so in a manner of speaking he received Isaac back from death” [Hebrews 11:19]. And in the end, God did not really want Abraham to go through with the deed. What God was real-ly after was Abraham making a display of his faith which would one day be mirrored in Christ’s passion. Still, even if God did not intend to let Abraham sacrifice his son, God still commanded it in a way which made Abraham resolved to do it. It is important to remember, therefore, that God is the author of life and has authority over when and how we die. As such, God does no injustice by taking back what is His. This also means God can deputize other people – whether human or angel – to carry out someone’s death. As alarming as it sounds, God had the right to tell Abraham to do what he did. Fortunately, God’s revelation through Jesus and the Church assures us that God will not be demanding this of anyone again.
