A MESSAGE FROM Our Pastor

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus summoned the Twelve

and sent them out two by two, giving them authori-

ty over unclean spirits. They were appointed to

preach repentance, drive out demons, and heal the

sick. By extension of the Twelve Apostles, every

member of the Church has been called to proclaim

the message of salvation in Jesus Christ and bring

healing to the people of God. In fact, “[the Church]

exists in order to evangelize...to preach and teach,

to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with

God” (Evangelii nuntiandi, 14).

By virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation, we share in the

priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission of Christ. In particular,

as prophets, we are called to proclaim God’s message of peace

and salvation. But we are not sent out alone. God gives us the

Church as the community of believers in order to strengthen,

encourage, and affirm our mission to love and serve Christ and

one another. In the process of evangelization, we will face mo-

ments of ridicule and rejection, just as Jesus did in his public

ministry. How can we overcome this obstacle?

While facing rejection, Amos declared that it was God who

chose and sent him to speak to the people of Israel. Despite per-

secutions, he had peace knowing he was following the will of

God. What about us? Can we detach ourselves from our former

ways of life in order to follow our Lord and Savior, to love and

serve him entirely? Today, let us reflect on the blessings we

have received from our Baptism and Confirmation, thank God

for the gift of our salvation in Jesus Christ, and allow the Holy

Spirit to make us instruments of the Gospel.

How can we open ourselves up to let the effects of the Holy Spirit be-

come active in our lives? How can we exercise Christ’s authority over

the unclean spirits in our lives in order to boldly proclaim and witness

to the Gospel?

Fr. David Vivero

mos.

semejantes.

P. David Vivero

For Your Day

t’s all so ordinary that we can easily miss it. The seagulls hunting and diving for mollusks at the beach offer a display of determination and precision as they gather their food for the day. It’s simply what these creatures do. Yet, there’s a magical artfulness and skill to their work that speaks volumes about the One who breathed life into their being. This is pretty much the way it is with God’s presence. God comes in common ways through common things and ordinary people. Sadly, we are so engulfed in our little worlds of order and ideas to notice the beauty and wonder of it all. Many have numbed themselves to the Divine spark at the essence of all life because that’s just the way it is. What’s so special about it? A sunset is a sunset and a seagull is a seagull. That’s precisely what they thought about Jesus too. After all, isn’t he just the carpenter’s son? What merit can his words possibly have? If we’re looking for God to come in an event that is so dramatic and intense that it knocks our socks off, then think again. When pondering God’s relationship with His people and God’s action in our lives, we have to go back to the stable and the recurring, creative, unending power of God’s presence. It was a quiet, run of the mill kind of night. There was nothing spectacular or extraordinary. To the naked eye, a woman gave birth to a child and there wasn’t anything extraordinary to see. We have a hard time understanding God’s ordinary-ness. Jesus grew up in an ordinary town, had neighbors and did normal human things. Perhaps that’s why we don’t always like the Gospel. It doesn’t dazzle us with extraordinary things but simply challenges us to take a different look at our ordinary stuff. That makes us uncomfortable. We prefer things as they are. Our lack of faith can even cause us to take offense at what Jesus says and does, dismissing it as folly. God’s life-giving presence continues to sustain that seagull in flight and keep all things in being regardless of whether we have the faith to see and understand this. Our personal agendas, preconceived ideas,

“IWelcome!

All Are Welcome Here If you are alienated or upset, we welcome you lovingly. If you are in

need of forgiveness, Jesus forgives you completely—with unconditional love. If you have been hurt by the Church, we are truly sorry. If you are angry, Jesus offers you peace. If life has become burdensome, we are here to support you. We are happy you are here and want you to stay. We would like to share our lives with you. Come join us each week so we can worship God together.

misconceptions, and expectations can often cause us to be hardened and blinded to what God is doing or desiring to do. While God continues to do what he has done for all eternity, faith is needed for God’s presence to bear fruit. The blinders we wear and the expectations we bring to life can often prevent us from seeing graced moments that radiate with God’s graceful presence. They also prevent God’s transforming, healing, and hope filled vision for our world from being realized. Without faith, God won’t be able to do much for us either. ©LPi

We Serve...

While everyone is having a good time at All Souls Community Family Fest, behind the scenes a brigade of volunteers is working tirelessly to ensure that all guests enjoy their experience. Every year, those volunteers take out mountains of trash, drive the infirm from their cars to the fun, cook endless meals, string up lights and electrical cables, set up tents and stages... the list goes on. Who are these volunteers? They're a core group of All Souls festival die-hards known as the "green shirts", surrounded by dozens of people like you, who make it all possible. It's you who is the beating heart of All Souls community; it's you who brings people together from all over Central Florida for two days of much needed fellowship; it's you who points a spotlight at Christ by sharing your gifts and love with others. And, by making it fun to be with All Souls, it's you who helps introduce so many to Christ.

The Sacraments

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church (SR

#46) from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

The Sacrament of Baptism

Call the Parish Office to learn the necessary requirements and

make an appointment to have your child baptized.

The Sacrament of Marriage

Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being married

in the Catholic Church may take between 6 months to a year to

complete. Please contact the Parish Office as soon as possible

after your engagement, if you would like to be married at All

Souls Catholic Church.

Anointing of the Sick

Please call the Parish Office. The Rite of Anointing tells us there

is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to

receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament can be

repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person should be

anointed before surgery, or when they have a serious illness.

These are some of the circumstances for the intervention.

Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound

If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the Parish Office so

we may assist you in having a visit from one of our ministers or

one of our priests.

Catholic Funeral and Burial

Please call the Parish Office, or have the funeral home director

contact us, to arrange for a Funeral Mass, and for more

information about All Souls Catholic Cemetery.

Festival Update From Fr. David

My Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Last year, the All Souls Community Festival was primarily held

online, due to Covid precautions. But, in 2021we rejoice that it

will be back on parish grounds, this Nov. 6-7th! All the great

food, music, and games will once again give our community the

opportunity to come together in fellowship and fun!

There will be some differences, however. The Festival will no

longer have carnival rides, in accordance with insurance and

Diocesan requirements, that apply to all parishes. As a result,

other parishes chose to forego doing their festivals. But at All

Souls, our festival committee came together to form a great plan

to makeover the festival and make it stronger for the future.

To start, the festival has a new name... All Souls Community

Family Fest! And, we’re working hard to bring in exciting new

things like a classic car show, a human foosball tournament,

touch-a-truck, expanded music and entertainment, and much

more! Watch the Bulletin in the coming weeks for more

updates, and please consider volunteering to join the festival

team. We can only do a festival with your help because you are

the All Souls Family!

Veronica’s desire to be like Christ crucified was answered with the stigmata.

Veronica was born in Mercatelli, Italy. It is said that when her moth-er Benedetta was dying she called her five daughters to her bedside and entrusted each of them to one of the five wounds of Jesus. Ve-ronica was entrusted to the wound below Christ’s heart. At the age of 17, Veronica joined the Poor Clares directed by the Capuchins. Her father had wanted her to marry, but she convinced him to allow her to become a nun. In her first years in the monastery, she worked in the kitchen, infirmary, sacristy, and also served as portress. At the age of 34, she was made novice mistress, a position she held for 22 years. When she was 37, Veronica received the stig-mata. Life was not the same after that. Church authorities in Rome wanted to test Veronica’s authenticity and so conducted an investigation. She lost the office of novice mis-tress temporarily and was not allowed to attend Mass except on Sun-days or holy days. Through all of this Veronica did not become bitter, and the investigation eventually restored her as novice mis-tress. Though she protested against it, at the age of 56 she was elected ab-bess, an office she held for 11 years until her death. Veronica was very devoted to the Eucharist and to the Sacred Heart. She offered her sufferings for the missions, died in 1727, and was canonized in 1839. Her Liturgical Feast Day is July 9. Why did God grant the stigmata to Francis of Assisi and to Veronica Giuliani? God alone knows the deepest reasons, but as Celano points out, the external sign of the cross is a confirmation of these saints’ commitment to the cross in their lives. The stigmata that appeared in Veronica’s flesh had taken root in her heart many years before. It was a fitting conclusion for her love of God and her charity toward her sisters.

And The Bible Says...

“Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is not without honor except in his

native place and among his own kin and in his own house.’ ” - Mk 6:4 Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass ©2001, 1998, 1970 CCD.

CONGRATULATIONS William P! All Souls is sharing in your

joy as you receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the very first

time! All Souls Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults ( R.C.I.A. or

now called The Order of Christian Initiation) is designed for adults

(and children over the age of seven) who’s faith journey begins after

a person has heard the mystery of Christ proclaimed, then con-

sciously and freely seeks the living God, entering the way of faith

and conversion. Those baptized as Catholics pick up this journey begun at their baptism through discernment and preparation to

come into full communion with the Catholic Church. On Saturday,

July 3rd during our 4pm vigil Mass the All Souls faith community

welcomed William P. to partake in the Eucharist for the very first

time. All Souls as a community serves a crucial purpose in the pro-

cess of conversion for those individuals preparing to be fully initiat-

ed into the life of the Church. By reflecting on the paschal mystery and renewing our own conversion, may we continue to be an exam-

ple that will help the newly initiated to obey the Holy Spirit. All

Souls Catholic community welcomes Bill into our mission as disci-

ples to serve and evangelize. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide

Bill in his faith journey. God bless!
