Mary, Mother of God (Sunday Readings: of year A : Breviary: Week i)

Psalm 66

Response : O God, be gracious and bless us

1. God be gracious and bless usand let your face shed its light upon us.So will your ways be known upon earthand all nations learn your saving help. (R)

2. Let the nations be glad and exult.for you rule the world with justice. With fairness you rule the peoples, you guide the nations on earth. (R)

3. Let the peoples praise you, O God;Let all the peoples praise you.May God still give us his blessingtill the ends of the earth revere him. (R)

Galatians 4 : 4-7Luke 2 : 16-21

Intercession : Lord in your mercyResponse : Hear our prayer.

The nuns at a small convent were happy to learn that an anonymous donor had left his modest estate to them. Each nun had been left £50 in cash to give away as she saw fit.

Each nun announced how she would spend her bequest. Sister Catherine Ann decided to give her share to the first poor person she saw. As she said this, she looked out the window and saw a man leaning against the telephone pole across the street, and he indeed looked poor.

She left the convent and walked toward the man. He had obviously known better days. The good nun felt he had been sent by Heaven to receive her offering.

She pressed the £50 into the man's hands and said, "Godspeed, my good man."

As she left, the man called out to her, "What is your name?"

She replied, "Sister Catherine Ann."

The following evening, the man returned to the convent and rang the bell. "I'd like to see Sister Catherine Ann," he said. The nun at the door answered, "I'm sorry, but I cannot disturb her right now. She's in the chapel. May I give her a message?"

"Yes," said the man gleefully. "Give her this $100 and tell her Godspeed came in second at Belmont."

The White Flag is up, they are under starter’s orders and they are OFF. The race of 2017 has started!

Like any horse race we all leave the starting gate at the same time, but some are quicker than others. The jockey and horse must pace themselves for this long and arduous journey. Even before they make a few furlongs a number will fall at the first fence, some will remount and continue a little wary of what lies ahead, others fail to remount and are heard of no more.

You could say this is an analogy of what lies ahead for each of us this coming year. Let us pace ourselves and have the courage to move forward and remember that the Lord rides with us on Tommy – His faithful old donkey.

It is not going to be an easy race so let us encourage the faint hearted, those who are afraid of going forward and say we will all meet at the end of this journey in the Winners Enclosure – Remember that with the Lord we are ALL Winners!

Happy New Year to AllMichael Patrick Evans (50/1 outsider)

NEW YEAR BLESSINGS TO ALL OUR READERS!

and A BIG THANK YOU to all who worked so hard to prepare and help us fittingly celebrate the Coming of Our God amongst us in the Mystery of Christmas, in all our churches: The liturgists, musicians and singers; the printers, folders and staplers, the ushers and welcomers, the church cleaners, decorators and flower-arrangers, sacristans and linen-washers, and all who care for the details that delight; the ministers of the altar (servers), ministers of the Word, and ministers of Communion, and all who Congregate; the tea-makers and those who stay behind after to clear up, switch off lights, and lock up. Let us all bless and thank each other, to the glory and praise of God our Father.

Fathers’ Michael, John and Joseph thank everyone for the Christmas Offerings and the many presents and

The Prayers and Congratulation of All Saints Parish go to Edna Corsi as she celebrates her 100th Birthday.

PLEASE NOTEThe parish office will reopen on Tuesday 3rd

January 2017.

GENERAL NOTICEBe aware of thieves. Please take all bags and valuables with you when you go to Holy Communion.

It is with sadness we learn of the death of Canon John O’Regan RIP.

He passed away peacefully in Nazareth House.

He will be remembered with affection by the people of the parishes where he served; especially St. Mary Magdalene in Ynyshir, with Tonyrefail.  Please remember him in your prayers. May he Rest in Peace

New Year PrayerGod, thank you for a new year. May everyone in our family be willing to begin anew with a clean slate.

We know that you are always ready to forgive us. Help us to be willing to forgive ourselves and to forgive one another.

As we begin a new year, remind us of our truest values and our deepest desires. Help us to live in the goodness that comes from doing what you want us to do. Help us to put aside anxiety about the future and the past, so that we might live in peace with you now, one day at a time.

PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE GREETING CARDTrevor  will be in the porch after mass with  some    cards which  you can send  to  a British-Iranian charity worker, Nazanin Zaghari – Ratcliffe  who was arrested in April at Tehran Airport in April   as she was about to fly home to the UK  following a family visit.  Since then Nazanin has been allowed only very restricted visits from her family, subjected to solitary confinement, and accused of plotting the  “overthrow of the Islamic Republic’. She may have been coerced into making a ‘confession’. Nazanin’s family said she was sentenced to five years in prison on unspecified ‘national security related charges’ on 6th September. Her sister-in-law, is a GP  in Cwmbran

Thank you to those who offered to drive Father for our Christmas Mass.  Mathew Varghese will bring Father and Trever Williams will take Father back. The other volunteers will have a turn another time. Thank you to all the parishioners who have supported our Sunday tea and biscuits.  The contributions have come to £92 over some time.  This will be added to the donations in lieu of Christmas cards.   The total will be send to cancer research.

We will prepare the Church this Wednesday 21st at 9:am for our Christmas celebrations.  We will be grateful for your poinsettias.  We will start with Carols at 5:30pm on Christmas Eve.  Next Tuesday will be our last meeting for 2016.  There will be no meeting on Christmas week.  We will be back to normal again on Tuesday 3rd January.  We thank Our Lady of Perpetual Succour for the care she take of our parish and especially of our community. Mike Roberts has arranged to have a Mass for Edna Corsi  (Valerie’s mother) and the intention is also for Valerie, next Sunday 18th.   Edna will be a 100 years on New Year's Eve.

The Piety Stall has still a good supply.  Please pay it a visit before or after Mass.  This year we will make a donation to cancer research instead of sending cards to each other.

This month, we are particularly thinking about the people who work within the Bereavement Group.  They support bereaved people

in a variety of ways. They are always busy, especially at this time of the year.  Thank you Folks.

We would like to wish the Priests, Deacons, Sisters and everyone in All Saints parish a joyful Christmas.

Raffles tickets still on sale this week after mass.

This year, many of us are going to make a donation towards a new carpet for the church instead of sending each other Christmas cards. If you would like to join in this project please leave your donations in the dish at the back of the church.

Thanks to everyone who donated items to the Dementia Wards at St. Woolos.

New choir members  -  We urgently need new members to join the choir if you’re interested please contact Chris Pugsley - [email protected]

PIETY SHOP: Calendars, diaries, books for children and other items suitable for Christmas presents can be bought at the back of the church, near the door.

POINSETTIAS FOR CHRISTMASIf anyone would like to donate a Poinsettia in memory of a loved one will they please bring it to St. David’s by the 18th December and they will be displayed over the Christmas period.

DRIVERS REQUIREDI can see a problem looming on the horizon as we approach Christmas, that is Fathers’ John and Joseph not being able to attend the Community Churches as neither of them drive and need lifts.

We need a number of people from each community to volunteer and set up a rota. Please DO NOT LEAVE it each week to the same few people who have been helping so far.

No lifts sadly means NO MASS!

Please ring the Parish Office or speak to your Community Chairperson if you can perform this essential ministry.
