Welcome to All Things Alpha Omega
The brothers of Phi Kappa Tau at Baldwin-Wallace College have had a special spring
semester in 2012. We have continued the success that we built in 2011. Four men
were initiated into the chapter this semester. Already, Phi Kappa Tau donated over
$1000 to various philanthropies; specifically over $700 donated to SeriousFun Children's
Network. SeriousFun Children's Network was previously known as Paul Newman's Hole
in the Wall Camps. Also, the brothers volunteered over 450 hours of service throughout
the Greater Cleveland Area; over 100 of those hours were with the SeriousFun Chil-
dren's Network. Finally, the brothers successfully completed the 70th consecutive year
on Baldwin-Wallace's campus. To honor this momentous occasion a celebration oc-
curred that parents, alumni, National Councilor Dovilla and National President Heilmeier
attended. At this event, brothers got the opportunity to interact with brothers from the
1940's through 2000's and it was truly an unforgettable experience. As the semester
comes to a close, the brothers have begun preparations to ensure success continues to
the Fall! All is well, in Berea!

Spring Semester is a Success!
This year marked the second anniversary of
the Phi Tau Fair, an event with a carnival
theme that is put on to raise funds to benefit
SeriousFun Children’s Network (formerly
Hole in the Wall Camps). The brothers, led
by philanthropy chair Shawn Cordes
(Baldwin-Wallace ‘11), took on the challenge
of staging a full scale fair in the ballroom of
the student union. A different approach was
taken at this year’s event in that all Greek
groups were invited to participate in the fair
by having a booth to raise funds for their
respective philanthropies. The events includ-
ed caricatures, pie-tau, magic shoes, a head-
shaving raffle, and much more. At the end of
the night over $800 was raised for philan-
thropy, topping last year’s fair and making it
an overwhelming success for Alpha Omega.
After weeks of practice and hard work, the
Brothers took home second place overall
at this year’s April Reign Competition.
Highlights this year included taking third
place in the Obstacle competition, second
place in the newly added pyramid competi-
tion, and first place in the boat competi-
tion.

Spring Recruitment Brings 4
New Brothers to Alpha Omega
After the weeks leading up to Infor-
mal recruitment and six weeks of
Association, we are proud to wel-
come four new brothers to the Al-
pha Omega chapter of Phi Kappa
Tau.
Robby Yankush, an avid camera en-
thusiast was the official camera man
for the 70th Anniversary. Deonquay
Barnes is a man of eclectic taste and
his impeccable style is a welcome
addition to the chapter. Armando
Arellano, an exercise science major,
is a common sight in the Lou Higgins
Rec Center. Niko Williams is an art
major from Warren Ohio; recently
his woek was selected for the B-W
Student Art Show.
“And the winner is… Phi Kappa Tau” was a common phrase heard at this year’s Greek
Awards (now called the Student Life and Leadership Awards). Phi Kappa Tau, as the
headline indicates, ended up taking home nine awards including: Innovative Program
Award, Outstanding Alumni Programming, Leadership and Involvement Award, the Lee
J. Tressel Community Service Award, Most Improved GPA, Outstanding Chapter Devel-
opment award, Outstanding New Member (Jason Roberto ‘11), Outstanding President
(Dominic Shillace ‘08), and Outstanding Fraternity.
Needless to say, the Brothers were very proud of the hard work put into 2011.

70th Anniversary Reflections
Almost a year of planning had gone into the organization
of the 70th anniversary of Alpha Omega to make sure
that no details were overlooked in the celebration of the
monumental event. No well-put-together event is made
without putting in the time, and from the perspective of
an Undergraduate member of the chapter, there certain-
ly was a great deal of hard work put into the event. After
months of planning and frantic weeks of polishing the
itinerary, the event was finally ready to start; and it
turned out to be a spectacular weekend for all who par-
ticipated.
The weekend kicked off on Friday March 30th with a wel-
come reception at Brother Mike Dovilla’s (Baldwin-
Wallace ’94) house where several alumni mingled with
the active Brothers before breaking off to go to dinner.
On Saturday the 31st, Alumni (including charter member
Roy Seitz Baldwin-Wallace ’42) were welcomed into
Mike’s Bar and Grille for a luncheon leading up to the
honorary initiation at B-W’s Center for Innovation and
Growth . We proudly welcomed the newest brother to
Alpha Omega chapter, Brother Joe Amschilinger while
our associates took the wives of the Alumni on a tour of
the campus. The Alumni were touched to witness the
initiation ceremony, many of whom had not been seen
since their time at B-W.
At six o’clock nearly two hundred Alumni, undergradu-
ates, parents, special guests, and B-W faculty flooded
into the 100th Bomb Group Restaurant in Cleveland for
the Banquet portion of the weekend. The evening was
emceed by Brother Dovilla and included appearances by
several prominent alumni, including Phi Kappa Tau Na-
tional President Greg Heilmeier (Bethany ‘86). Several
awards were presented through the night including Bor-
radaile Awards for Brothers Tom Konkoly, and Dick
Fletcher, as well as a Phi Award for Brother Roy Seitz. A
silent auction was held during the banquet which raised
nearly$2500 for the chapter which will go toward schol-
arships for incoming students and improvements to the
chapter room. The evening concluded with a special
Brotherhood Candlelight Ceremony, which proved to be
a moving experience for everyone in the room, bringing
them closer to the chapter and Fraternity as a whole.
The following morning the weekend came to a close
with a breakfast of coffee and donuts in the chapter
room where members could reflect on the important of
events that had just occurred. 70 continuous years on
campus, an accomplishment that no other fraternity on
campus can boast, is not just a coincidence. It is clear
that “I shall be loyal to my college and my chapter” has
not been forgotten by our alumni. We at Alpha Omega
understand that brotherhood doesn’t stop after four
years, but extends into the decades to come.
Personally, I would like to send an enormous thank you
to all of the Alumni who attended to event, and I hope
to have the same dedication you do when I enter the
Graduate Council.

CAMPUS NEWS
It had been rumored for a while that Baldwin-
Wallace College would be changing its name, and
after a recent Board of Trustees meeting, BWC will
become Baldwin Wallace Unversity effective July 1,
2012. Not merely a spontaneous change, it is a re-
sult of substantial restructuring to the campus and
curriculum Baldwin-Wallace College has undergone
in the past decade. The Baldwin-Wallace College
website states, “*the name change+ is aimed at
more accurately reflecting its current structure and
the breadth of the institution’s academic program
offerings.” Presidendt Durst affirms that the name
change will not change the goal of the institution,
“the B-W focus on students learning and personal
growth, individual attention and exceptional
achievement we be unwavering” he says. The name
change is expected to bring in a wider variety of
foreign students as well as to boost enrollment as a
whole. Be sure to keep a hold of all of your Baldwin-
Wallace College memorabilia, as they are now all
collector’s items.
In addition to the name change, B-W also will be welcoming a new Presi-
dent In the Fall. Althogh President Durst has given quite a large pair of
shoes to fill, we a re confident Robert Helmer has what it takes to win
over the Baldwin-Wallace student body. His credentials are outlined in an
article from Channel 5 news, “Helmer was named president of Lourdes
University in Sylvania in 2003. He also served as vice president for aca-
demic affairs and a faculty member. He holds the faculty rank of profes-
sor in Lourdes’ history department. He also has been teaching fellow and
research assistant at Marquette University in Milwaukee and held adjunct
teaching positions at Indiana University and Ancilla College in Indiana.
Helmer is a graduate of Notre Dame in Indiana and The Catholic Universi-
ty of Louvan in Belgium. He holds a doctorate from Marquette and a law
degree from the University of Toledo.” With quite an impressive resume,
we expect big things from our new University President.
