Ever wonder why I consider the Allen School one of the best Health

Sciences schools? That’s because they put their students first. My life

before the Allen School was a bumpy one, without clear direction or

focus of what I was going to do with my life. The Allen School opened

doors for me, allowing me to put my future and career at the forefront

of my life. My personal and professional growth has improved drasti-

cally with the guidance and support of some exceptional instructors

and the best doctors I’ve ever met. Dr. Karim/Choudhury/Pasha/

Andradle/Batson….Thumbs up to you all! Ms. Chambers/Te/Walters/

Murray/Mann…Keep up the great work! A big thank you to my admis-

sions representative, Bianca Jackson, who is always there to motivate

me through the difficult times. You played your part to the end as

promised! There were days at the Allen School when I felt discour-

aged, but there is always an instructor to put a smile on your face, and

a pat on your shoulder. The Career Services Department is small in

number, but is a powerful team, who keeps me, along with the rest of

the study body “in the know,” with bulleting updates, upcoming

events, while preparing me physically and mentally for the job field.

Thank you so much to the Allen School. I can now look forward to a

career that is promising, stable, and will provide a bright future!

“The Allen School

December 2011 Graduate Christine Rummell

Attending the Allen School for Medical Billing and Coding has changed my life tremendously. It is one of

my proudest accomplishments. After being out of school for 26 years, keeping up with the demanding

curriculum proved to be a big challenge for me. I not only graduated but did so with a 4.0 GPA. I have

learned a substantial amount of valuable information which has made me more marketable to prospective

employers and has boosted my self-esteem. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the support of the

Allen School throughout this process. Along the way I met many selfless and devoted teachers that

helped me to realize my potential as well as supportive classmates that I now call friends. Their help, con-

structive criticism, and motivation inspired me to persevere when the challenges of life and school

seemed overwhelming

My experience from start to finish with the Allen School has been a positive one. The helpful advice from

the Admissions Staff and the diligent follow through of the Career Services Department provided for a

smooth transition from student to graduate to employee. I graduated on December 18, 2011 and landed a

job on January 5, 2012. I am now an Admissions Coordinator of a 90 bed skilled nursing facility at Abbey

Delray South in Delray Beach, Florida. There are so many people to thank for my success not only from the Allen School but

also my family. The endless support and motivation from my two loving daughters, the encouragement and advice of my

sister to pursue a new career path and the endless reassurance from my boyfriend gave me the resolve that I needed to suc-

ceed. I thank you all and appreciate all of your cooperative efforts for without you this success story would not exist. I look

back on my astonishing journey as a student in 2011 with the Allen School and look forward to my new journey as an Admis-

sions Coordinator in 2012 with the same optimism, passion, and determination.

A couple of Allen School students were on their lunch break walking towards McDonald’s on Court Street in

Brooklyn when they saw a man with his hands in the air. He was trembling and all of a sudden he dropped to the

ground shaking . The students knew automatically that he was having a seizure because they had just learned about

seizures with their first aid instructor, Mr. Ruzicka. Allen School student’s Cassandra and Yesenia cleared the way

while another student, Farah, was on the phone calling 911 to come help this young man. You never know when

your newly learned skills will help save a life!

Job Search

Quick Tip:

Be nice to everyone you meet

on an interview including the

administrative staff, you never

know who is part of the hiring

process!

What is the best way for a student with limited medical experience to

make themselves marketable in the field?

As for your non-experienced Graduates, I always tell any new

Graduate to get into their local Hospital anyway they can, in any posi-

tion. Once they have reached their probation requirements and are

eligible to transfer, if a position opens that they have the certification for they can apply. Internal

transfers generally have priority over external hires. Remind them not to get discouraged, they

have chosen an excellent career; with perseverance they will be successful.

Ever wonder how the Allen

School Student of the

month gets selected? Fac-

ulty and staff make the

decisions based on the

following criteria:

3.0 GPA Minimum

Involvement in School

90% min. Attendance

Visibility around campus

Assist classmates

Positive Attitude

Adheres to school policy

Professionalism
