Name_________________ ALLUSION REPORTS for the novels Demian and The Picture of Dorian Gray Allusion reports are conducted by one or two students depending on the topic. These topics highlight important people, concepts and allusions relevant to this unit’s major works. In order to better understand these works, we will briefly bring these topics to life. These presentations should be no more than 3-5 minutes of background information about the concept as well as its connection to the novel. Depending on the type of topic, the key points you will be expected to research are different. For example: Authors: Herman Hesse, Oscar Wilde Where are they from? During what time period did they live and write? What aspects of their life, if any, connect to the novel we are reading- life experiences that may have motivated the writing, content or ideas that reflect the author’s life, etc… Biblical allusions: What part of the bible is it from? What is the actual parable or story in its entirety? How is it used in the novel? Essentially for all of the topics, you are expected to explain what it is and how it connects to the novel. A brief handout for the members of the class is required. If you have any specific questions about what I expect from your report, please do not hesitate to see me.
