General Meeting

On September 9th the Second general
meeting was underway. The meeting was
held as usual in RDB 1100 where over 100
students attended even though the
weather was not making it easy for stu-
dents to drive there. Paola Lacouture, Presi-
dent of ALPFA, kept her promise and
started the meeting at 6PM on the dot. Shestarted with the agenda of the day explain-
ing what the meeting will be about. Kevin
Zamora, President-elect, followed after-
ward to reiterate about Ahead of the Game,
where many rms and companies will be
on campus, September 29th, where stu-
dents will have the opportunity to have a
closer networking session with any of the
recruiters. Maryia Shkaradzenak took the
stage after Kevin to also give more insights
about Mock Interviews that will be held on September 24th. She inferred, that
many students should take this opportunity to sharpen their interviewing skills
before Ahead of the Game. Artem Volos came afterwards to also explain about
the Finance Summit, where a panel of top executive professionals in various
business elds will be answering any questions from students. Camila Barranco,
Treasurer, followed afterwards explaining rst the deadline for the payment to
become a member is September 23rd. Once students have paid their member-ship they can enjoy the benets of participating in events such as Mock Inter-
views and Ahead of the Game. She also announced the fundraising event that
will be held at Moes on September 17th from 4PM to 8PM. Natalia Cabanillas,
Secretary, came after to explain about the community service held on Saturday,
September 10th, to clean up and plant mangrove trees at the Biscayne Bay

campus. This community ser-
vice event was a total success as
many members of ALPFA went
to show support while having
fun. Mendy Chow, Parliamen-
tarian, followed afterwards to
talk about the ALPFA Honors
and GPA requirement to join tothis subgroup of the organiza-
tion. Carlos Quijano, Webmas-
ter, stood on the stage and
reiterated about the newsletter committee. Afterwards, Jose Mortimer the mar-
keting director took the stage and thanked everyone for joining a successful
and memorable social that was held on September 2nd at Kevin Zamoras
house. Catherine Pea came afterwards to announce the teams that were
selected to compete in the AICPA competition. She later introduced the guestspeaker, Dawn Lazar who gave a presentation to all students on how to prepare
for the Career Fair and all upcoming Student-Professionals networking events.

As 7PM reached on Friday,
Beta Alpha Psi joined the
ALPFA students in RDB 1100
where PricewaterhouseCoo-
pers also known as PwC came
to present about their rm.
Many professionals as well asinterns reached out to the
students to share their expe-
rience with PwC and what
they are looking for in stu-
dents. Students asked manyquestions to recruiters about the process and the companys culture.
At the same time, Finance stu-
dents from ALPFA and BetaAlpha Psi students attended RB
120 to listen to Prudentials pre-
sentation. In which Robert Ruiz
and his colleagues gave a better
understanding to students on
what a career in Prudential is
like.

Fundraiser
ALPFA will soon be doing its first fundraiser thanks to the treasurer,
Camila Barranco, and the restaurant Moes. On September 17, we will be
hosting the event Fill that tummy up where we can participate together with
friends and family. Just bring the flyer given to you so a percentage of the
food you buy with your friends can be donated to ALPFA. Moes is located
near international mall at 10660 NW 19th St. This will an event that will start
at 4PM until 8PM .

Community Service

The community service that held Satur-
day on September 10th was a complete
success. Sixteen students attended and
helped clean the Biscayne Bay campus
and plant mangrove trees. It was held
from 9AM to 12PM. Natalia Cabanillas
helped set up this event with the ALPFA
members.

Career Fair is one of the biggest career-related events in the region. On the
Modesto A. Maidique Campus alone, we regularly introduce over 80 employers
to nearly 1,500 of our students and alumni. Employers comprise private industry;
public, educational, and non-prot organizations; local government, federal gov-
ernment, law enforcement, and military.
Career Fair is open only to FIU students and alumni, and is free of charge to
