Further in preparation is a major study on Antiochos I, the Galatians and Seleukid Rule in Asia Minor in the Generation after the Battle of Korupedion (281 BC).

RESEARCH FUNDING and SCHOLARSHIPS (Value in Canadian Dollars): I am currently holding a Standard Research Grant of the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada (SSHRC) for my research project on Ancient Galatia (central Turkey) (2011-2015). This year, I intend to apply for a UW SSHRC Seed Grant for research on the Bosporan Kingdom, and for a SSHRC Connection Grant for Seleukid Study Day V (Brussels 2015). To involve as many qualified students as possible into my research agendas, I regularly apply for further funds through the Ontario Work-Study-Program (OWS) or the UW International Work-Study-Program. FT 2011-ST 2013: Ryan Walsh (BA Waterloo ON): Gallo-Roman Relations under the Early Empire – How Roman Prejudice Shaped the History of Gaul. Ryan gained credit for technical support of the database projects Amici populi Romani and Genealogical Tables of the Graeco-Roman World in spring 2012. He gave a splendid talk on the long-term effect of the usurpation of Vindex in Roman Gaul in AD 68 at the Annual Meeting of the Classical Association of Canada, London, May 2012. He also gave a compelling paper on Galatian queens at Seleucid Study Day IV at McGill University (Feb. 2013) and at the Galatian Workshop at Waterloo (March 2014). Ryan defended his MA Thesis in June 2013, was awarded a SSHRC Doctoral Scholarship and admitted into the PhD Program at McMaster in Sep. 2013.

FT 2012-ST 2013: Lukas Lemcke (BA Waterloo ON): The Cursus Publicus in the Later Roman Empire. He wrote the articles Codex Theodosianus (with me) and Sirmondian Constitutions for the Oxford Dictionary of Late Antiquity. He held a paper that highlights the changes of the imperial information and transportation system from the High Empire to Late Antiquity at the Shifting Frontiers X conference (Ottawa, March 2013), a written version will be published in the proceedings. At the same conference, he was invited to submit a revised and extended version of his MA thesis as a book publication for the series ‘Society, Culture, and Text in Late Antiquity’ (Pelgrave Macmillan), for which it is currently under review. For further publications, see below b). Lukas was awarded a SSHRC Doctoral Scholarship and started his PhD studies at Cologne University, Germany, in Oct. 2013 (The Provinces of Late Roman Asia Minor). students, see above (G.) and below (J.). I started a Latin Reading Group in Dec. 2014. I ran a Research Colloquium for graduate and advanced undergraduates in the Fall 2011 and

Winter 2012, ca. 2 x 6 meetings of 90 min. In the Spring Term 2012, it was replaced by a one-day thesis workshop (June 21, 7 presentations).

I offered a German Reading Group for students enrolled in a Classical Studies program in Fall 2011 and Winter 2012; ca. 2 x 6 meetings of 90 min.

WT 2010: Contribution on the history of Roman citizenship to the Arts Lecture Series Cultural Encounters – Encountering Cultures (25 Jan. 2010), including an interview with Prof. James Skidmore: http://www.arts.uwaterloo.ca/arts301/coskun.html). J. OTHER ACADEMIC AND SERVICE ACTIVITIES: Over the past years, I have predominantly been dedicated to creating and developing international and interdisciplinary research networks that involve established scholars, young researchers and advanced students from the undergraduate level onwards. My initiatives include the Seleucid Study Group, networks on Galatia and Asia Minor, as well as networks on Greco-Roman dynasties, Roman diplomacy and Black Sea Studies. Within the Department of Classical Studies, I am currently responsible for Academic Affairs (organization of departmental guest lectures and workshops) and keeping in touch with our librarian and the Faculty Association. I previously served on the Arts Faculty Council Executive (2010-2013) and the Steering Committee of the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies (2009-2013), whose Director I was in 2012/13. I am a member of the editorial team of Latomus (Journal for Latin Philology and Roman History, Archaeology and Epigraphy; Director: David Engels, Université libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) and the book series Pontica et Mediterranea (Main editor: Victor Cojocaru, Romanian Academy, Department of Archaeology, Iaşi Branch; Publisher: Mega, Cluj-Napoc, Romania). For a number of years, I have been acting as peer-reviewer for international journals: Anatolian Studies, Historia, Illinois Classical Studies, Journal of Ancient Egyptian Interconnections, Latomus, Materiali e Discussioni, Phoenix, TAPA.
