Dear Team, I want to start out by saying THANK YOU. Thank you for believing in the mission and potential of AMA. Thank you for volunteering your time and energy to be a part of this incredible team. Thank you for your drive to be a leader in the best club in Foster (not biased at all). And WELCOME to the 2015-2016 UW AMA Leadership Team! It’s going to be an AMAzing year J I joined the UW AMA my very first week of my freshman year at UW. Right from the start, I soaked it all in. The weekly meetings, the speakers, the polished Leadership Team, the Etiquette Dinner, and everything in between. I’ve loved every minute of my time in AMA, and I have truly grown both personally and professionally. I had no idea that just a few years later, I would end up being Co-Presidents with the one-and-only Chad Shapard. It’s truly an honor to work side-by-side with Chadillac, and each and every one of you. I am unbelievably excited for the year ahead. We have the unique opportunity to be the leaders of one of the largest clubs at one of the best universities in the nation. That’s pretty dang cool if you ask me. I live by the words “if you can dream it, you can do it.” This year, I encourage you to step outside your comfort zones and think outside the box. If we dream big and work together, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to. We have an incredible team, and I am confident that this will be the best year AMA has ever seen.

AUSTIN JOSEPH MILLER Dear Ballers, Words do not do justice for how excited I am to grow and work with each and every one of you. I want to thank Allie, Austin, Bernardo, Coral, Evyn, Kourtney, Madison, Mark, Natalie, Rachel, Teddy, Taylor, Victor and Yana for everything you are about to do. Cheesy, I know, but this journey we are about to embark on will be an incredible experience, and we will need all hands on deck! I want to reminisce on some memories from my two years with AMA. I’m aware that I sound like an 80-year-old man right now. I remember our first Etiquette Dinner, where I had no idea how to eat properly in front of employers and was embarrassed out of my mind. I remember meeting Lucas Mack, someone I look up to as a role model and mentor. I remember not knowing what a LinkedIn was or what my resume was supposed to look like. I remember the moment my name was called for AMA member of the year. I remember when Austin and I were chosen to be Co-Presidents. I get the privilege and honor of working next to my Best Friend AJ-Mills. How baller is that? AMA has done more than just professionally develop me. It has given me memories that will last a lifetime, even when I am actually an 80-year-old man in a rocking chair eating my Chick-Fil-A. This club started out as three people coming together with a common goal. Now UW AMA is the best and biggest club in the Foster School of Business. You are all now recognized leaders, not only within the Business school, but within the UW community. This comes with great responsibility as members will look up to you and strive to be you. I want to leave you with this: “if it is to be, it is up to me.” Each of you brings a diverse way of thinking to the table. Some of you have never stepped foot in an AMA meeting, and some of you have been with AMA for years. There is nothing that our talented group can’t accomplish. Let’s be the AMA group that they talk about for years. Let’s do more than the status quo and shatter expectations.

CHAD JAMES SHAPARD

Leadership Team Communication Communication is key. We will be using the following online resources to keep in touch and stay up-to-date on what each position is working on.

§ E-Mail: Each member of the Leadership Team has their own E-Mail address through Gmail (see page 9). You can either have it forwarded to your personal email or keep it separate and check back regularly. However, please send all external emails regarding AMA using your “@uwama.com” email.

§ Podio: This will be our central hub for all things AMA. Here you will have your own workspace to stay organized, create apps, assign/complete tasks, etc. Podio is our friend!

§ Google Drive: This is the home for all of our files. Every position has its own folder, so please upload all of your AMA files here. You can access our Google Drive using your UWAMA email address.

§ Facebook Group / GroupMe: These are two easy ways to send a quick message to the whole team. Feel free to post in the Facebook Group or send a message in the GroupMe if you ever want to make an announcement or need help from the team.

Weekly Leadership Team Meetings (LTM’s) We will be meeting every week as a Leadership Team for 1 hour to discuss all-things-AMA, such as upcoming meetings and quarterly events. Here, you will have the opportunity to update the team on your position and request help from other VP’s. Meetings are tentatively set for Thursdays at 7 PM. Weekly AMA Meetings The AMA will host meetings every week throughout the quarter to keep our members engaged and further their professional development. We will have a variety of meeting types, including general speaker meetings, office visits, and workshops. We will not hold meetings during dead week, finals week, or during the same weeks as our quarterly events. Husky Creative Husky Creative is our very own Advertising Agency within the UW AMA. Started 2 years ago by Jordan Barr and Chris Morgan, Husky Creative is a resource available to our members to provide them with real-world marketing experience with actual clients. Husky Creative also helps fund some of our chapter’s operations.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

“Leadership is unlocking people’s potential to become better.” - Bill Bradley

Etiquette Dinner (Autumn) Our big quarterly event for Fall Quarter is the Etiquette Dinner. At this event, we invite both students and professionals to suit up, enjoy a nice meal, network, and learn etiquette tips. Previously, we have stuck to dining and dressing etiquette, but we will be branching out this year to professionalism and other types of etiquette. The Etiquette Dinner is scheduled for November 16th in Anthony’s Forum. Regional Marketing Conference (Winter) Our big quarterly event for Winter Quarter is the Regional Marketing Conference. Held in late January or early February, this is typically our largest event of the year. We will invite other AMA chapters from across the West Coast for a full day of marketing. Activities include keynote speakers, breakout sessions, a networking/career fair, and possibly a case competition. PRISM Dinner (Spring) Our big quarterly event for Spring Quarter is the PRISM Dinner. This is our chance to honor our members, speakers, sponsors, and anyone else involved in making AMA possible. Historically, this has been held at the UW Tower and the DECA Hotel in late May. American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference (AMAICC) If you didn’t already know, the UW AMA is part of a larger professional organization called the American Marketing Association (well duh). With over 350 collegiate chapter, we compete every year at the AMAICC in New Orleans. We have received the Bronze Chapter of the Year award the past 2 years, ranking us with the top 15 chapters in the nation. Our ranking is determined by two main components, the Chapter Plan and the Annual Report:

§ Chapter Plan: This is a huge document encompassing every last detail of our plan for the year. Each member of the Leadership Team will have 1-2 pages to talk about his/her position-specific goals and plans. Due in early October, we’ll get a jump-start on this toward the end of the summer. We’ll need everyone’s help to get this done!

§ Annual Report: This is our chance to reflect back on our Chapter Plan. The six criteria that we are judged on include: Professional Development, Finance, Chapter Planning, Community Service, Fundraising, and Membership. Each one of these is incredibly important to our national ranking. The Annual Report is 20+ pages and is due in Mid-February.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

“Think big and don't listen to people who tell you it can't be done. Life's too short to think small.” - Timothy Ferriss

Page 8: AMA Summer Retreat

“Inspired people inspire people” - Lucas Mack. Below are some tips and tools to stay motivated and inspired throughout the year! 1. Learn Something New Every Day: Charlie “Tremendous” Jones teaches that the key to

becoming the person you dream of being is the books you read and the people you associate with. Constantly read books, newspapers, websites, etc. Watch Jeopardy or Play Trivia Crack. There’s no such thing as a useless fact. If it’s part of our world, it’s worth knowing. Embrace lifelong learning!

2. Stay Positive: There’s nothing more powerful for self-motivation than your attitude. You can’t choose or control your circumstance, but you CAN choose how you react to them.

3. Use Visual Motivators: An inspirational quote or poster can keep you focused and determined to achieve your goals. Likewise, a cartoon or joke can help keep you from taking things too seriously.

4. Surround Yourself With The Best People You Can Find: There are those friends in life who will support you and build you up and those who will always try to tear you down. Spend your time with the former.

5. Use Self-Talk: One of the most powerful influences on your attitude and personality is what you say to yourself. By controlling your inner dialogue, or your “self-talk,” you can assert control over every part of your life.

6. Be Healthy: What’s good for your body is also good for your brain. So take care of yourself! Eat healthy, work out, and get enough sleep. Our society is chronically sleep-deprived, which negatively affects our thought processes. So along with “beauty sleep,” go for the “smart sleep.”

7. Take A Break: You don’t have an endless supply of energy and drive. Now and again, you need to take some time to re-charge your emotional and spiritual batteries.

8. Track Your Progress: Keep a tally or a progress bar for ongoing projects. When you can physically see something growing, you will always want to nurture it.

9. Share With Others: Once you’re motivated yourself, start motivating others. Support and encourage people, be their cheerleader, give tidbits of advice and wisdom. Sharing with others will help you refine your toolkit and ultimately improve yourself.

10. JUST DO IT: As Shia LaBeouf once said, just do it. Figure out what you’re working toward, and wake up ready to pursue it each and every day. Whether you want to land your dream job or become the next AMA President (or both), never forget your end goals. Life is short - make every second count!
