Link to AISD Professional Development Calendar Introduction The calendar that follows represents the CSI Department’s planned professional development for summer 2013 and the 2013/14 school year. Once finalized for the April district leadership meeting no other re- quired CSI department sessions will be added. Where possible, we have included enrichment and non-core groups such as fine arts, CTE, special educa- tion, and digital learning department. In some cases, these groups cannot identify dates at this time. Still to be scheduled: CTE utilizes business and industry to provide training for some of CTE teachers, and those schedules are yet to be determined by providers. CSI/DLL iPad Project meetings are not yet scheduled. However, the meetings and training all occur after school starting at 4 p.m. Participating teachers meet with their learning groups at least once a month, typically on Wednesdays or Fridays. DDL trainings are most often targeted to a campus or specific user group. While there may be period- ic District offerings (e.g. SMART notebook 1 and SMART notebook 2) these are typically only of- fered when we are unable to meet the need at the campus level. Such session will be advertised via the District Newsletter and published in Eduphoria Workshop. When a campus needs specific technol- ogy related training(s), they should contact Anna Bechyne (secondary) or Donna Hill (elementary) to schedule. Introduction

The calendar that follows represents the CSI Department’s planned professional development for summer

2013 and the 2013/14 school year. Once finalized for the April district leadership meeting no other re-quired CSI department sessions will be added.

Where possible, we have included enrichment and non-core groups such as fine arts, CTE, special educa-tion, and digital learning department. In some cases, these groups cannot identify dates at this time. Still to

be scheduled:

CTE utilizes business and industry to provide training for some of CTE teachers, and those schedules

are yet to be determined by providers.

CSI/DLL iPad Project meetings are not yet scheduled. However, the meetings and training all occur after school starting at 4 p.m. Participating teachers meet with their learning groups at least once a

month, typically on Wednesdays or Fridays.

DDL trainings are most often targeted to a campus or specific user group. While there may be period-ic District offerings (e.g. SMART notebook 1 and SMART notebook 2) these are typically only of-

fered when we are unable to meet the need at the campus level. Such session will be advertised via

the District Newsletter and published in Eduphoria Workshop. When a campus needs specific technol-ogy related training(s), they should contact Anna Bechyne (secondary) or Donna Hill (elementary) to

schedule.

Glossary

AISD Standards Teams Teams of teachers and CAS/Learning Leaders meet in grade level and subject teams in the late spring and/or summer to discuss and revise the AISD scope and sequence/year at a glance/content resources

for the following school year.

Instructional Leaders Academy (ILA) Content, assessment and instructional leadership training for campus instructional leaders: principals,

assistant principals, CAS, instructional officers, learning leaders, and department heads. Instructional Leaders Academy (ILA) might be held during the summer and is held 1 day per semester for each of the

four core subjects at HS, MS and elementary levels.

Curriculum Cadre (CC) Content training for teachers from each campus is provided by our core curriculum specialists or ex-

perts in the content area. The cadres typically consist of a teacher representative from K-2, 3-5, and each grade level/subject in MS and HS. Curriculum cadre is held 1 day per semester for each core sub-

ject at K-2, 3-5, and each grade level/subject in MS and HS. Fine arts, elementary PE and CTE also use

curriculum cadres. Teachers who participate on the cadre teams are responsible for disseminating their learning to other teachers at their campus.

Curriculum Content

What content should be taught? The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills arranged in a logi-

cal sequence as determined by the AISD standards teams must be the basis for our lessons. What content is actually taught to students in the classroom? Content decisions, points of em-

phasis and the level of understanding that a teacher has regarding the TEKS determines what is

actually taught. What content is tested or assessed? The assessment must be designed based upon the content

standards and not the content taught.

Assessment This includes all forms of formative and summative assessment from classroom checks for un-

derstanding to the STAAR tests. The makeup of the assessment and the wording of the ques-

tions that a teacher chooses to use or that the state assessment uses must be aligned with the content standards.

Instruction –

Instruction refers to the strategies and methods used to teach the content. This includes the in-structional decisions made by individual teachers about how the content will be delivered to

the student in a manner that results in student learning.
