Experience a unique collaboration : Scientists & Students and Indigenous People & Wildlife The Amazon Rainforest is home to the Earth’s greatest number of different species of animals and plants, Although covering only 2 percent of the Earth, it has 30 million species of plants, animals and insects. In one square mile, 75,000 types of trees & 150,000 species of plants were recorded. Scientists believe there may also be millions of rainforest animal and plant species yet to be discovered. Tropical Rainforests provide more drug yielding plants for medicines than any other ecosystem. Many plants have not yet been investigated regarding their ability to provide life saving medicines, and will never be, if they are destroyed. It is a captivating & mysterious place that will leave you inspired to help preserve the world’s richest, most productive & complex ecosystem on earth . The intention of this expedition is to help students/participants understand the importance of this region’s incredible biodiversity. Through on board lectures, students will gain knowledge of the Amazon Rainforest, allowing an educated grasp of what they may discover during their field research. This will include collection of specimens for examination, identification of various species, day & night cruises, and science experiments. Students will also be asked to keep a field/ photo journal. We are fortunate that our staff has generously donated their time to pass along their passion of the Amazon to future generations. It will be a lively & colorful exploration of all of the amazing aspects of study the Amazon offers.
