Gear housing :- Gear housing is of streamlined & compact design, made up of welded steel construction or close-grain cast iron/cast steel (on request) with sufficient surface area to take care of heat dissipation aspect. The faces & bores are accurately machined on precision machines to ensure perfect alignment & interchangeability.
Gear internals :- Toothed parts like pinion & gear wheels are made up of case hardened alloy steel material, carburized, hardened and profile ground to surface hardness of 58-62 HRC having core hardness of 30HRC (min.) resulting into higher resistance against wear and fatigue strength.
Shaft :- The slow speed shaft is made up of high tensile carbon steel having large diameters to take care of torsional as well as bending stresses developed on account of torque as well as gear forces and overhung loads acting on the slow speed shaft.
Bearings :- The shaft are supported on anti-friction taper or spherical roller bearings with ample dynamic capacity to take care of radial as well as axial loads. The bearings are sized according to latest Swiss software programme viz: KISS SOFT to ensure proper bearing life.
Lubrication :- The lubrication of gears & bearings are done by splashing the oil from the sump. However, in case of larger size of gear units with higher pitch line velocities, the lubrication &cooling of gear internals and bearings are done by forced feed lubrication system with suitable control & monitoring devices.
Power ratings :- The power ratings are evaluated by means of latest Swiss software programme viz: KISS SOFT based on DIN 3990/AGMA 2001.
Efficiency :- The efficiency of various types of gear units are given as under:
99 % for type H198 % for type H297.5 % for type H397 % for type H497.5 % for type H597 % for type H696.5 % for type H7
Class of accuracy :- Gears confirm to accuracy class 6 as per DIN 3961-63.
Noise level :- Allowable noise level measured at 1 meter distance from gear units can be generally given as under:
Testing:- The assembled gear units are tested under no-load for noise level, oil leakage, temperature rise & output speed.
