Branton JFC 2015-16 Newsletter 2015-16 Welcome to a new season of Mini and Junior Football at Branton Juniors Football Club. We hope all the players, parents and officials are excited about the coming season, and are looking forward to representing our club with pride over the coming months. It should be a really exciting season for all teams, but especially for our two senior teams. Jeff’s Under 13’s are heading to Holland in May, and Russ’s Under 14’s will be playing against Spanish opposition at Easter in Lloret De Mar, add in a visit to the world famous Camp Nou in Barcelona, and I’m not sure it gets much better for a 14 year old footballer. These trips will be a great experience for the players and officials from their teams, and will allow them to see how things are done in two of the great footballing countries of the world. Both these countries are very big on youth football, so it should be an eye opener for both teams. This year the Football Association have once again amended the formats for some of the teams, including extending the age of development football ( i.e non competitive ) up to and including under 11’s. Full details of all the formats can be found later in this newsletter. We would also like to extend a very warm welcome to all the young players and their parents of the under 7’s team, for what will be their first full competitive season with Branton. If the past few months are anything to go by, it should be an exciting time ahead, following excellent results at the summer tournaments. I have also been very impressed by their enthusiasm and happy enjoyable attitude that they have shown both in training and during their summer tournaments, and I’m sure they will represent the club in fine style over the season ahead. We believe the club has come a long way in the past 3 years, and is now more organised, financially stable, and operating more as a club, rather than a group of teams, who simply had the same name. Newsletter 2015-16

Welcome to a new season of Mini and Junior Football at Branton Juniors Football Club.

There is still a lot of hard work ahead, and we hope that everyone involved from Managers, Club Officials , players and hopefully parents, will continue to seek ways of improving the playing and social experience of being part of Branton Juniors FC.

The newsletter contains a lot of information, some of it will be new to some people, others might already be aware of it. One area that we are constantly trying to communicate about is the financial position of the club. We have included information about finances, to ensure everyone involved understands, what it costs to run a junior football club, Unfortunately, money does make a difference, and the state of finances will ultimately determine, how we can take the club forward. If anyone has any questions on the finance side, please speak to your team manager, or contact one of the club officials.

The club is always looking of ways to improve the playing experience for the kids. However ideas, thoughts, dreams etc are not solely confined to the club committee, so if anyone, parents, players etc have ideas and thoughts on the future of this club, please let us know. We would like more parents to get involved in the running of the club, so please don’t be shy, let us know your thoughts. If anyone is interested in attending the monthly club meetings, then you are welcome anytime.

The club is also at an advanced stage of being able to agree to run a summer tournament, probably in May 2016, negotiations are still taking place re the location, but if all goes well, we will need a lot of volunteers to help it run smoothly. The tournament will also provide an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of the club locally, and very importantly raise money for the club.

There will be business opportunities for local businesses in terms of advertising and attendance, so please bear this in mind, if you think you or someone local may benefit.

Again, as soon as we have final details, a communication will go out to everyone.

The club is totally appreciative of all the fantastic support it gets from all the parents and players, and I’m sure that that will continue throughout the coming season. Enjoy the next 8 months, and remember football is a funny old game, so no matter what happens, never give up, as you never know what might happen next.

Keith Watkin – Chairman Branton JFC

Never were those words more true, as out of the blue the club received some potentially bad news

Hayfield School – Plans for a new Sixth form College

Parents with children at Hayfield School and the club were made aware last week of plans by the school to close their sixth form in 2017. The letter then went on to say that a new sixth form college was to be built on the existing playing fields. The college would be independent from Hayfield School, but would be much bigger than the existing sixth form. Clearly this would have a significant impact if planning permission is granted on whether there is sufficient land left to allow us to continue to use Hayfield School. As you can imagine details are still a little scarce and various rumours are circling about just what will be left space wise, should everything get planning permission. At the moment there is very little, we as a club can tell you until further details are published.

However, we do now need to start looking around to see if there any alternative locations that we could utilise. We have already discussed a couple of possibilities, and there are definitely options in which we could use for small sided football. However, we don’t to find ourselves playing at various locations, around the district.

While the news is not good, this event may provide the club with the opportunity to use the headline of local football team with nowhere to play, to generate interest from local landowners to provide some land that we can develop as our own, and using the money we pay Hayfield to maintain it for us.

At this stage, with so little information available, there is not much else we can tell you, but if anyone does have contacts with local farmers, landowners who you think, may in the long term be interested in helping us out, then please let your team manager or anyone of the committee know.

Rest assured, that as soon as we have any further details, we will let all parents know.

Branton JFC 2015-16

A summary of the 2014-15 season

Under 6’s – Danny Winterman

Branton Juniors U6s ( under 7’s this season) are a success story of our first ever mini kicks sessions that started back in October 2014. Having trained very hard and for 5 months the oldest lads played in the Spring league, playing against the current u8s teams in Doncaster. These lads competed in terms of football, but physically were facing hard times and this showed in the results. However showing great spirit, these lads turned up week after week to play. Shortly after the Spring league finished the youngest lads started to play games, and quickly became a force to be reckoned with as they battled against teams with more experience than themselves and got results. After a few friendlies and the spring league the lads have entered tournaments and become quarter finalists on a couple of occasions and even won the Dearne and District cup 2015. A strong summer has shown us that we can expect an exciting season ahead, and hopefully many more after this one exciting times are to come, not only this season but for many to come.

Under 8’s – Adam Frost

We had an excellent 2014/2015 season resulting in us being placed in the top division for this season. We started off last season pretty slow as we drew quite a few games , however we quickly got into our stride and played some lovely football. After Christmas we stepped up a gear and beat teams that have previously thumped us. So the hard work is paying off for us.

The Top scorer was Alex Jackson with 32 league goals

Joint player of the year were ; Cory Sammut and Alex Jackson

Players Player of the Year ; Cory Sammut

Most improved Player ; Alec Reynolds

Branton JFCUnder 10’s – Mike Daniels

A fantastic effort from the Under 10s last year as they had one eye on small sided games and learning the new format. There were a lot of memorable games where the team worked well together and played in the right way. In the voice of Luis Van Gaal “They played with a great philosophy”.

Under 11’s – Danny Winterman/Andy Bond

The season that has just closed was arguably the one that presented the most questions to both managers and players alike since the under 6 days. Two teams in the same ages group had merged together to form the u11 with its new 9 a side format. Both Danny and myself had to work out the team’s strength and weakness whilst players needed to learn about new team mates styles and positions.

The season started well , with initial success in the first few months resulting in some good results and a pleasing sense of cohesion within the unit. The October curse stuck with a vengeance and we didn’t manage a victory in that month. The rest of the season faired the same with ups and downs, with defeat snatched at the jaws of victory ( yes, that way around ) and some great results in hostile lands. We finished

6th in the table which I don’t think was a great reflection on what the player had achieved on the pitch We were rarely if at all out footballed on the pitch. Frequently opposition managers commented on our ability to pass the ball and be comfortable on the ball at all times even under extreme pressure. Our shortcomings in games was due to the inability to cope with the long ball approach adopted by some teams –at this age though, Danny and myself would rather take a paper loss but play great football than the tactics adopted by opponent as we believe in the development of a player and their skills. During the course of the season the development of the players both individually and as a team was great to see with the players starting to try new ideas , and play autonomously without direct instruction needed from the side-line.

We have been slow out of the blocks this season , but I think our time is coming where we will start to really dominate games and get the victories that we need to carry us higher up the table.

Under 12’s – Jeff Wray

2014 - 15 season was our first season in the Premiership with our main aim being to stay up. We Finished mid table which was a great result as we were now playing against the best footballers at our age group in Doncaster.Armthorpe and Dunscroft pretty much walked away with the league as both won all there games. However, Branton was the only side coming close to beating both of them. We lost 3-2 at Dunscroft early on in the season and given an extra five minutes we woukd have come away with a draw. We also produced a great performance away to Armthorpe where we hit the woodwork three times which scuppered our chances of taking the win.

The focus for 2015-16 is to move ourselves further up the table and see if we can take a few points from those above us. It will be a difficult season as three teams at our age group folded last season so the remaining teams have been strengthened by taking on some of these players. Branton however still have many of the players we started with at U7 and didn't take on any spare players from those teams. A bit of determination from our boys will see we improve on last seasons results.

Under 13’s – Russ Latham

After being crowned Champions of the First Division in 2013/14 we were promoted into the Premier League last season where we were to play 11 aside football for the first time. We started the season really well with a thoroughly deserved win against Bessacarr in our first game but only managed another 2 league wins and 2 draws throughout the rest of the season despite playing extremely well - saving our best performances for the games against the top teams, (Stainforth and Barnby Dun). This resulted in our relegation but despite the lack of success in terms of results we were never beaten by more than the odd goal and the lads continued to keep there chins up, playing some excellent football at times which made me extremely proud to be their coach. We look forward to the upcoming season with relish and determination to be successful and regain our place back in the Premier League. We are also looking forward to our end of season tour when we will be going to Barcelona, Spain for 5 days playing 2 games while we are out there, hopefully as Champions of the DDJSFL Under 14's First Division!"

Branton JFC 2015-16

Under 16’s – Keith Watkin

After a 4th place finish in 2014, our aim was to try and break the monopoly that Hyde Park have had on the Premier Division for the past few seasons. The season started really well as we put 7 past Hemsworth, and 6 past Ordsall in our first two games. This was followed by a storming 2-1 victory over one of the Sheffield Junior League’s top teams, in the Sheffield Cup. The win being even more remarkable, because we were without our goalkeeper, and played an hour with only ten men. We continued unbeaten in the League, but bowed of the Sheffield Cup 4-3 to Wickersley. Having come back from 3-1 down with 10 minutes to go, we then went to sleep and let Wickersley score a last gasp winner. In the League, two of the newly promoted teams dropped out of the League, the consequence of being hammered every week, and this messed up our fixtures, and meant we went long periods without a game. Despite remaining unbeaten until the first week in February, our season began to unravel once we suffered out first defeat. In the end we still managed to finish 3rd i, although the stop start nature of the end of the season, meant it was a disappointing end to our last season. In our last game we still had 10 players on the pitch at some time, who had played since under 7, which was a fantastic achievement. Some of the players wanted to carry on, but others felt they needed a new challenge, and so our 10 year journey including 2 overseas trips came to an end, but what a great journey it had been.

Under 17’s – Steve Wilson

An up and down season with some great wins, but also heavy defeats, mainly caused by the curse of any under 17/18 Manager , Saturday nights out and women. The good news was that we were able to finish runners up, when the League split after Christmas. A great way to finish the lads Branton careers

What has happened since last season ?

The loss of two teams in 2013-14, and the fact that the Under 17’s and Under 16’s from last year have decided not to enter the newly created Under 18’s League, means that we have only 7 teams for the coming season.

In fact the Under 14’s will now be the oldest age group, which is a shame, but provided, we can bring in a new under6s/7’s each year, we could be back to a full compliment of teams within a couple of years.

The good news is that we have a very exciting, enthusiastic group of under 7’s for this season. Having seen them close up in training, and matches, I am sure they are going to represent the club with great pride this season, and the future looks very bright. They are a fantastic bunch of kids and when you see these guys, so excited and happy about playing football, great credit must go to Danny, Barry and Mick for all the work so far, and preparing them for their first full season. Results in the first few weeks of the season have also been brilliant, and although the main aim is to enjoy the football, it is also great, that the weeks of hard work are paying off. The lads have represented their club superbly so far, and the future certainly looks bright.

Club Finances

The club has no CLUB sponsorship deals, but individual teams receive sponsorship, normally in the form of the purchase of a kit. Therefore the club is totally reliant on the subscriptions, and any fund raising to keep the club solvent. Last year despite losing the income from a couple of teams, some prudent book keeping, and an excellent result with the purple voucher books ( see below ) , brought in an additional £2,000 , which is a fantastic result, so a big thank you to everyone who purchased a purple voucher book.

This years are already available, and are a great way of saving money, while at the same time raising much needed funds for the club, so support the club and buy one, financially it’s a no brainer.

The financial position has improved significantly since last season, and we hope to further consolidate our position this season. However, with the loss of another 2 teams, we really do need to raise further funds to cover the loss of income.

This week I received £200 from Branton Post Office which Ron and Barbara have collected from small change in a jar on the counter. They have been collecting on our behalf for quite a few years, and the club is very grateful for the donation.

The club is very keen to ensure the financial position is transparent, and the figures available for everyone to see. We get a lot of questions, asking where all the money goes,

The biggest cost is Hayfield School to whom we pay between £5,000 and £6,000 per year. The other big costs are registration and insurance , and last year we subsidised both the Chrismas and end of year presentations to the tune of between £600- £700. If anyone wants to see a copy of the accounts, please just ask your team manager or a committee member.

As the financial position improves, we will be looking to find ways of passing on the improved financial situation to parents.. This maybe in the form of reduced subscription amounts or it may further subsidised

tickets for Christmas and End of Season Presentations etc. Rest assured, that we will be doing everything we can to continue to improve the financial stability of the club, and ensure that increased funds are used to benefit the club or to reduce the financial burden on the parents.

In order to achieve this, we will continue to ask all parents to support any fund raising initiatives both large and small to ensure the club has sufficient resources to carry on for many years. Details of any fundraising initatives will be given to managers as soon as possible..

Purple Vouchers Books

As already mentioned one way everyone connected with the club can help, is to purchase a purple voucher book.

I think most people are now familiar with these books, and their concept, as we have promoted them over the past couple of years. We have been given the opportunity by the company who produce these books to have access to the 2016 version ahead of them going on sale at other places. The benefit is that you get 16 months to use your vouchers, as most will expire at the end of 2016. The books cost £20, and are full of discount vouchers for restaurants, shops, leisure etc. The more vouchers you use the you more save. If

7

Branton JFC 2015-16

you eat out , nearly all the main restaurants and pubs in Doncaster and the surrounding area are included. If you go to Rovers or the Knights, Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach , or any major leisure location, discounts are available. It really is that simple – spend £20 and get 16 month’s worth of discounts. Even if you only use the fast food vouchers, you will get your money back. If every parent bought one book, and got a relative to buy another, the club would stand to gain nearly £1000. This would go a long way to offset the previously mentioned loss of 2 teams income. So please support the club, and at the same time save yourself a whole wad of money.

Subscriptions

Subscriptions are £120 per player per season, this includes a £17.50 registration fee, which is required by the Doncaster Junior Football League and to cover insurance costs. The balance goes to the club. This cost equates to roughly £3 per week over the course of the season. This costs covers playing on a Sunday and training on Saturday and midweek. The subs are paid in two equal payments, however arrangements can be made for payment to be made monthly, or even weekly . In such cases, please see your team manager

Subscription - £60.00 due by the end of September 2015

Subscription - £60.00 due by the end of February 2016.

NB .If anyone wants to pay these fees monthly, please contact your team manager and he will set up an arrangement for you to do this.

If you have any issues or problems in terms of paying the subscription, please do not leave it or take no action, as this could lead to players being suspended. We want to help , and options are available, so please talk to your team manager.

Team Finances.

The current method is that all subscriptions are paid into the club. Each team then receives a rebate of 20% of the total subscriptions for their team. That money i can be used for whatever they need, or think is the best use of the money.

As a general rule this will give approximately each team anything between £350 and £400 per season, depending on the number of players there are registered.

Team money should be used to buy balls, training equipment, extra players kit, Christmas/end of season parties parties, summer tournaments.or any other activity that will.benefit the team.

Most teams are able to obtain sponsorship to buy new kit, as this is normally the biggest expense. The club is also looking for teams to try and look after kit, and then pass it down, especially to some of the younger teams, again in an attempt to save money. The club is especially grateful to all the team sponsors for their financial contribution.

Branton JFC 2015-16

Paying subscriptions

All payments to the club should be made to the team manager, who then must issue you, with a receipt, if anybody hands over money and does not receive a receipt please let one of the club committee members know. Strict financial rules are in place to ensure financial transactions are clear and transparent. Failure for anyone in the club to adhere to these rules, could lead to the club losing its chartered standard club status, which would be a disaster for the club.

Financial Support

While the financial position has improved, the club is always looking for additional funds. So if anyone has their own business or works for a company that has a community fund or something similar, and they would like to provide sponsorship, or advertise their company, please speak to t your team manager or a member of the committee. We would be happy to put small adverts in these newsletters free of charge.

The club is also looking at having an advertising board or some form of display with all the current team sponsors on, so we would be happy to include any additional names as the season progresses,

The club would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported the club financially. I am also very pleased to announce the Bed Emporium, have once again agreed to provide sponsorship and an increased first prize for next years end of season presentation.

If anyone need s new bed, mention Branton JFC and you never know, you may get a few quid knocked off.

Child Welfare

Parents and guardians remain responsible for their children at training and matches.

Punctuality -Children should be in football kit ready to start sessions on time, especially on match days. Please let the coach/manager know if your child is unavailable to train or play as they will not want to let their team mates down.

Two-way Conversation

Get to know your team’s coach and manager who will be glad to chat and receive constructive feedback or particular information regarding your child.

First Aid

In the event of a player being injured, in the absence of the parents the team officials are responsible for deciding whether further medical assistance is required. Parents and/or guardians will be contacted as quickly as possible. All club coaches have undertaken basic first aid training as part of the requirement under the Football Association Chartered Standard accreditation.

Child Welfare Officer – Richard Job

Part of my brief as the Branton FC Welfare Officer is to promote the enjoyment of junior football at all levels across the Club. To help make the Branton experience a good and positive one it is important that as a Club we abide by recommendations and rules of the FA and it’s initiatives for junior football such as the RESPECT initiative.

Each time a child attends a training session or at a match they should be treated respectfully and kept safe.

It is adherence to the safeguarding framework by the club which ensures the health safety and wellbeing of all children participating in club activities. During such activities (matches & training) it is unacceptable to have bad language and criticism of players or match officials on or off the field of play.

Players and spectators are representing our club and abuse of individuals can result in complaints which if upheld can lead to disciplinary action which damages the reputation and image of the club. We have a very good reputation within the Doncaster Junior League and our aim is to maintain or improve that perception going forward. !

The club wants to make playing for Branton an enjoyable experience, for all! Players, Officials, parents and opponents alike, and by all working together we can achieve that goal. If anyone has any issues on child welfare, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time, using the contact details below.

General

A brief history of Branton JFC

Branton Juniors was formed back in the summer of 1988, at that time they were called 'Branton and RAF Finningley Junior Football Club'.  It was formed by Phil Man and he was soon joined by Garry Burns and Roger Griggs, who had plenty of boys eager to play in an organised team.Soon there were enough players, and two teams were entered at U10 and U11 in the Doncaster and District Boys Sunday League.  In those days Branton Juniors played all their home matches at Kilham Lane and the fledgling club also ran a nursery group of 9's and under on Saturday mornings. Over the coming years the popularity in the club grew, forcing the club to move to a new home within RAF Finningley. By 1994 the club had grown into one of the largest junior clubs in the area and another move beckoned, with the club moving to its current location at Hayfield School on Hurst Lane.

Branton JFC is a local club at the heart of our community, with links with local schools. We are delighted by the number of players who progress up the age levels before moving into adult football. Last years under 16’s had 11 players in their squad, who had been part of the club since they were 7, we hope many more, will continue to play for Branton for the whole of their junior football career.

Doncaster & District Junior Sunday Football League (DDJSFL)

All our teams play in the DDJSFL, with most matches played on Sunday mornings. Occasionally at the beginning, and at the end of the season, it may be necessary to play midweek games. Doncaster Junior Sunday Football League is affiliated to Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA.

Football Association – Charter Standard .

Branton Juniors are a FA Charter Standard club, which means that they have achieved the required standard to be recognised under the FA‘s flag ship affiliation. The FA Charter Standard programme is a kite mark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in club and league football. The kite mark is awarded to clubs and leagues that are well run, sustainable, which place child protection, quality coaching and safety paramount.

There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to achieve. The entry level is ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced is ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club.

Branton Juniors achieved Club Level in 2009 and are currently working towards becoming an FA Chartered Standard Development Club.:

Club Values

The club aims to ensure that players, coaches, parents, spectators and volunteers uphold the Core Values of the FA Respect Campaign These values will stand our young people in good stead both on and off the football pitch and we hope that everyone involved within the club, including officials, players, and parents will uphold the good name of the club by supporting the following club aims.

- Play to win – but not at all cost

- Win with dignity, lose with grace

- Observe the Laws and regulations of the game

- Respect opponents, referees and participants

- Reject cheating, racism, violence and drugs

- Value volunteers and paid officials alike

FA Respect

The FAs respect programme provide a series of tools for Leagues, clubs, coaches, referees, players and parents from grassroots to elite football – to help ensure a safe, positive environment in which to play the game.

The full set of guides and initiatives can be found by visting the FA website www.thefa.com and typing Respect into the search facility, but as an introduction we have listed below the key issues for players and spectators.

Players

When playing football, I will :

Always play to the best of my ability Play fairly – I won’t cheat, complain or waste time Respect my team mates, the opposition, the referee and my coach Play by the rules, as directed by the referee Shake hands with the opposition and referee before and after the game Listen and respond to my coach Talk to someone I trust or the club welfare officer, if I am unhappy about anything at my club.

Spectators and Parents

Remember children’s football is a time for them to develop their technical, physical ,tactical and social skills. Winning isn’t everything. Parents/spectators will :

Remember that children play for FUN Applaud effort and good play as well as success Always respect the match officials decisions Remain outside the field of play and within the designated Spectators Area Let the coach do their job and not confuse the players by telling them what to do Encourage the players to respect the opposition, referee and match officials Avoid criticising a player for making a mistake- mistakes are part of learning Never engage in, or tolerate, offensive, insulting or abusive language or behaviour

If we all remember and apply these principles, football will provide many hours of fun and enjoyment for everyone involved. More details on the FA Respect campaign can be found via the FA respect website or follow the link below

The club is looking for parents who have some time on their hands to join the committee, and provide support and ideas to make the club even better.

If you are interested in providing support on such things as ;

Sponsorship .

financial support

Fundraising

Summer Tournament

Catering on matchdays

Tell your team manager

One of the key areas we are looking to get something in place for is a replacement or alternative to the catering van. The owner has nothing to do with the club, and pays no money to the school or the club to allow them to be onsite.

A replacement would mean valuable funds being directed into the club and improving our financial position. Therefore if we want to help set up a refreshments tent, or have a viable alternative speak to your team manager and we can work from there.

Thank you for your continued support
