Week beginning 22 nd June Home learning activities based around our new book ‘NO DINNER!’ You do not need to buy this book to do the activities. Mrs Penfold will read it this week for Friday Story time. Literacy NO DINNER! *Look at the attached word document for this week’s tasks. Reading/Phonics: *This week our ‘special friends’ sound to practise is ‘ow’. Our Rhyme for this sound is: ‘blow the snow’ In school when introducing a new sound, we would follow the sequence below: Everyday recap sounds already taught ‘speed set 1’ You may like to watch the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc. videos online (9:30am) or make your own flash cards which the children could do. (Attached is a copy of speed set 1 with the handwriting rhymes) Day 1- Oral blending. Play bingo. Children to have a bingo board 3x3 and inside have pictures or objects of things with the ‘ow’ sound in. Explain to your child you will Fred talk a word and they have to blend the sounds together to say the whole word. If they have that word on their bingo board, they can put a counter on it. snow, blow, low, show, sow, bow, crow, row, grow, throw Day 2- Reading and Blending Play noughts and crosses. This could be set up outside or inside. On each square put a word with ‘ow’ in it. Before you can have your turn, you must read the word on the square you wish to put your naught or cross on. Mathematics SubtractionPlease provide lots of opportunities for practical taking away over the course of the week. Encourage the language of ‘take away’, ‘subtract’ and ‘I have 5 left’. Make it as fun as possible!

*Watch Mrs Penfold’s video on taking away strategies*Watch Numberblocks ‘The two tree’ Series 2 Episode 14*Complete one of the worksheets attached on the website.*Play subtraction game attached on the website*Play games on www.topmarks.co.uk ‘Subtraction to 10’, ‘Simple Take away’ or ‘Rabbit take away’.

Weight – To use language related to weight and to order 2 or 3 items by weight. In school we would use balancing scales and allow the children to explore these using different objects and talking about what happens and how we know which object is the heaviest. We would then move onto how many cubes heavy is the …….? How do we know? (The scales are balanced) You may like to make your own balancing scales. Picture attached to show an example.

Below are some suggested activities:

*Weight Treasure Basket Sorting (In a basket/bag put a range of different objects.) What can you find in the basket?Which things are heavy?Which things are light?Can you sort them into two piles?Are the heavy things easy to lift?

Which is the heaviest thing in the basket?Which is the lightest?*There is a challenge card attached to the webpage. * Make some cakes or a recipe that involves weighing. Talk about what scales are used for in everyday life, allow your child to feel each ingredient and compare the weight. *Play ‘Happy camel’ on topmarks.co.uk*Use your balancing scales to find out how heavy different objects are. For example, ‘My banana is 35 lego bricks, I know this because I balanced the scales.’MathleticsThis week we are resetting 3 tasks linked to subtraction and 2 tasks linked to weight. These will be going live at 9am on Monday and you will have the whole week to complete them. Once you have completed the task you can then play on Mathletics live under the tab ‘play’.
