Salinas Honored with the Grand Cross Royal Award PTC Founding Chairman Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas was conferred with the Royal Award - the Grand Cross of Isabel the Catholic (Gran Cruz de la Orden de Isabel la Catolica) by the King of Spain, King Felipe VI, represented by His Excellency Luis Calvo, Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines, on May 10, 2017. The Grand Cross was bestowed on Ambassador Salinas in recognition of his exemplary service and dedicated efforts towards enhancing the resurgence of longstanding relations between the Kingdom of Spain and the Republic of the Philippines. Through Ambassador Salinas’s efforts, during his term of office, the government of Spain through the Senate and the Congress of Deputies issued a unique declaration citing the enduring relationship between Spain and the Philippines, and naming the Philippines as the gateway of Spain to Asia while providing the Philippines a platform to further develop diplomatic, cultural, and economic engagement with Europe and South America. This Royal Award is one the highest decorations granted by the Kingdom of Spain and over the last two hundred years, has been given only to a select few distinguished individuals who have extended meritorious and extraordinary service towards the development of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Spain and the community of nations. In his acceptance remarks, Ambassador Salinas thanked the government of Spain for this singular honor. Through the enactment of relevant laws, we must promote policies that will ensure the growth of the Philippine merchant fleet, adhering to international practices and international maritime regulations and conventions.” The Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training, Inc. (PHILCAMSAT) celebrated its 25th anniversary last May 26, 2017, with a thanksgiving mass followed by a reception for their valued clients held at the Penthouse of First Maritime Place in Makati. A “selfie” photo coåntest entitled “PHILCAMSAT at 25” was also launched as part of the celebration. Established in 1992, PHILCAMSAT’s 25 years in the industry is marked by numerous milestones and pioneering initiatives. PHILCAMSAT is the first maritime training center in the country to be thrice-certified by Det Norske Veritas for Maritime Training, Maritime Simulator Training Services, and ISO 9001:2008. In addition, PHILCAMSAT is the only institution in Asia certified by the Belgian Maritime Inspectorate. In 2008, PHILCAMSAT partnered with the country’s premier engineering academic institution, Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL), resulting in the creation of the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET). To further enhance global competitiveness in Filipino seafarers, the Center opened The MAST (Maritime Skills Training Campus) in Maragondon, Cavite, offering STCW courses, as well as, offshore safety and survival courses. To date, over 130,000 individuals have benefitted from PHILCAMSAT’s world-class competency training, through which they have been able to pursue meaningful maritime careers. As it celebrates its 25th year, PHILCAMSAT remains committed to its mission to transform seafarers into highly-competent global maritime professionals.

The House Committee on Transportation approved the substituted bill regarding The Philippine Ship Registry System introduced by ANGKLA Party-List Rep. Jesulito Manalo. This bill is geared towards attracting foreign owned vessels to register under the Philippine flag state under a proposed incentive scheme and a simplified registration system.

PTC Employees Volunteer for Brigada SkwelaPTC employees helped prepare a clean, safe and learning-conducive environment for the students of Bucal II Elementary School in Maragondon, Cavite as they took part in the Department of Education’s “Brigada Skwela” program last May 16, 2017. Organized under the PTC Employee Volunteer Program, the activity saw employees cleaning school grounds, painting perimeter walls and fixing classroom fixtures in preparation for the forthcoming school year this June. Aside from participating in the clean-up, PTC also made a donation of first aid kits and cleaning materials to the school. Ms. Marita M. Gonzales, Principal of Bucal II, thanked PTC and the volunteers for their selfless contributions and for devoting their time to such a noteworthy endeavor.

Komaya Shipping held its annual crew conference at Vikings in Mall of Asia last May 4 to 5, 2017. This was followed by a fun-filled Family Day on May 6 where Komaya officers and crew enjoyed bonding with their families over exciting games and outdoor activities at the pristine waters of Pico de Loro in Nasugbu, Batangas.

Grindrod Shipping held its 6th Officers and Crew Conference at the Solaire Hotel Manila last May 24 to 25, 2017. The conference included sessions on fleet human resource updates, Grindrod’s safety culture, bunkering and sampling challenges, and risk assessment. A workshop on Navigation and Engineering and a health talk for both crew and their allottees were also conducted.

Crew Conferences John T. Essberger and Transocean Shipmanagement (TOS) held their Safety, Security, Health, Environment and Quality (SSHEQ) Seminar for their officers and crew at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Manila last May 15 to 17, 2017. A memorable Fellowship Night, graced by Capt. Josef Stingl and Ms. Nurhuda Hanafiah, capped the event where longstanding TOS officers and crew were honored with Loyalty Awards.

PTC Health & Wellness Lecture Series PTC employees learned about the basics of kidney health at the latest leg of the PTC Health & Wellness Lecture Series 2017 held last May 31 at the Legaspi Room of First Maritime Place. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Malta Aiko Magbitang, Family Medicine Specialist of the Ospital ng Maynila, and facilitated by Dr. Joel Villanueva of Health Metrics. Among the topics discussed were the causes, early warning signs and treatment of kidney diseases and urinary tract infections (UTI).

2017 PTC Summer OutingEmployees of the PTC Group once again gathered for a day of fun under the sun at the 2017 Summer Outing held at the White Corals Beach Resort in Morong, Bataan last May 13. Attendees enjoyed a scrumptious lunch buffet and bonded with their fellow employees over beach volleyball matches, kayaking races and other exciting outdoor games.

PTC at the FAME and SONAME Golf Tournaments PTC proved triumphant at the greens as representatives of the Group participated in the recently held golf tournaments of the Filipino Association for Mariners’ Employment, Inc. (FAME) and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Inc. (SONAME) respectively.

Mr. Edgar Milla, PTC Inc. Chief Operating Officer, finished 1st Runner-Up at the

Class C Division of 13th FAME Annual Golf Invitational Tournament held last May 4 at the Wack-Wack Golf & Country Club in Mandaluyong. Mr. Bobby Aquino, PTCAT General Manager, showed an equally impressive performance at the 8th SONAME Golf Cup where he was also named 1st Runner-Up at the Class C Division. Held last May 27 at the Ayala Greenfield Golf and Leisure Club in Calamba City, Laguna, the tournament was organized to raise funds in support of SONAME’s projects which promote excellence in the naval architecture and marine engineering profession.

LifeLinks Joins Labor Day Job Fair LifeLinks International Resources participated in various legs of the Labor Day Job Fair organized by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), in cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), from May 1 to 2, 2017. Jobseekers who went to the Cabanatuan, Iloilo, Occidental Mindoro and Aparri legs of the job fair were
