Hannah Bater HNS Industry Ambassador

Hannah is an amazing HNS ambassador because she is spreading the message of health in here high school. Hannah experienced the harsh reality of the modeling business when she went to a top agency and was told to lose 10 pounds and come back. After losing the 10 pounds, Hannah went back in to the agency to see if they would sign her after do what they had asked. The agent looked Hannah over, up and down, and simple said, “No thanks.” That is when Hannah realized she wasn’t going to fit the expectations of the fashion industry and luckily has amazing parents who are not supportive of an unhealthy requirement of their daughter!

Why do you feel so passionate about Healthy is the New Skinny and the message it brings?

If I had a blog with healthy models to look at when I was younger, especially my middle school days I think I wouldn't have been so insecure going into high school. I've always been very into the media and magazines and all I ever saw was stick skinny girls or dieting ads with slogans like "look like your favorite models" which as a young girl, what was better than looking like the models on the page? Healthy is way of life not just a body type. Its a way of being confident, happy, eating the right things and great amounts of exercise. I feel better about myself when I am living a healthy life and girls need to really understand being skinny is overrated, healthy is what is beautiful.

If you could go back in time and give your high school self a message from the future what would it be?

Well, since I have two months left of high school, I can't say anything to my high school self but I can say it to my early high school self: Don't compare yourself to anyone. No one can make you who you are except for yourself and I definitely struggled with that! I was always saying “Why don't I have her hair? Or her body?" It wasn't always physical stuff either. Sometimes I didn't understand why I couldn't be as funny or as fun in general as someone else. I wish I didn't waste so much time trying to be someone I wasn't meant to be.

What makes you laugh so hard you cry? Every moment I am with my friends. We do the most outrageous stuff together like wearing all black and war paint to  spy on a friend when she was on a date. I've never met anyone like us, there is never a dull moment with us!

What do you love most about being a girl? Its just fun! I love the glamour of being a girl! We have so much options in what we want to wear, how we do our hair, I mean, I know boys do too but not quite like girls! Getting my nails done and going to the beach in a cute bikini to tan, all of it is just so fun!

What changes would you like to see for your generation of women and the next generations to come? I think acceptance would be awesome. Girls should naturally be able to feel good about themselves and not have to wake up everyday and fight to like themselves. I'd also like to see more people living healthy lifestyles. 

Do you think change is possible? Absolutely. Change is always possible when it is really wanted.

When you think about the word happiness what does that look like? Happiness is such a complex word but when I think of genuine happiness, I don't think of perfection, I think of the opposite actually. Its when I'm at peace with what is going on in my life. Happiness is having my friends and my family around and everyone who loves me. I find happiness in little things, like a beautiful day at the beach (What can I say? I'm a California girl.) Fashion is happiness because it is my main passion in life. The little things that add up to make my happy :)

Tell us something people would not know about you from your looks alone….

I was  home-schooled for most of my life. People always are so shocked when they hear that! They go “Wait, but you're normal?!" I'm like "yes, I was home-schooled AND I know how to hold a conversation!” LOL
