COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

Hello all. Hope everyone had a nice Christmas This year flew by us. Let's have a great 2020.

The repairs and painting are almost finished. Looks great. Next is the yard. It's an eyesore but we

already have a plan in place. We'll be starting the yard as soon as the painting is complete. There has been

no money whatsoever from the Post. It all came from donations from generous members. Have an idea

about other projects? I'm open to all suggestions. Sherry B stepped up to replace the carpet on the stairs

coming into the building. One less thing we need to worry about. Thanks Sherry!

Because of much confusion and lack of communication whoever is doing a breakfast, dinner, or

any other event is responsible for setting up community service, and all other arrangements. There have

been too many changes and cancelations for me to keep up with. Until we have someone to take on this

mission, Contact County Probation Department (Community Service), David ~ (928) 499=4087.

The Post sorely needs someone to help with arranging Community

Service personnel for Post breakfasts, sinners and other jobs around the Post. As Tony mentioned, there is

a fair amount of time needed to accomplish the scheduling but it telephone time only. Your efforts will

most certainly be appreciated by all who are doing something for Post members and others who enjoy the

meals. Call Tony (602) 321-1175 or Dan (928) 273-5146 PLEASE HELP!

Please don't forget about the Post Everlasting ceremony on 1/5 at 1300. It's a very moving event

and all those able should try to make it. Remember, we're not just a bar. Come see some of what we're

really about. Till next time.

God Bless,

ADJUTANT’S NOTES

Happy new year!

Membership for 2020 is at about 85%. Please remember to bring your membership card with you

when you come to the Post, as the bartenders will be checking them. If you still need to renew, it

certainly is not too late. You can pay the bartender with cash or check, mail a check to me at the Post,

or renew online, which is fast and easy. Let's get that 100% membership for 2020!

Our Post Everlasting Ceremony will be on Sunday, 1/5. This ceremony honors our members who

passed away during 2019, and officially transfers them from Post 6 to “Post Everlasting.” This is a

touching ceremony, and if you haven't seen one, you may want to attend. There will be light

refreshments after the ceremony.

Then on Sunday, 2/9, we will have our annual Four Chaplains Ceremony. This is also a touching

ceremony honoring the four chaplains who sacrificed their own lives to save someone else when their

ship was sinking during WWII. Please attend this if you can.

Nominations for officers are coming up in the next couple of months, so think about running for a

position, or nominating someone you think would be a good fit for the various positions. A lot about

the American Legion can be learned while holding an officer position.

Until next time....

ALR 6

I hope that everyone had a good holiday season. Other than the storm that wiped out the

canopy over the Honor Guard van (and the canopies over my pickup and my bike), it has been

pretty decent riding weather.

ALR6 participated in the District 8 ALR VA Christmas party again this year, giving out

over 100 stockings to the CLC and Domiciliary residents. They are comforted to know that they

are not forgotten.

ADVERTISERS

ALR6 received a Certificate from Wreath Across America for the wreaths that we ordered. It was

about half the number from last year, but thank you everyone that donated. I hope next year we can put a

wreath on every veteran's grave at Prescott National Cemetery.

Plans are in place for the 2020 Get To Know Your Posts. This is a year long event sponsored by

ALR117 (Pat Tillman Post) to get American Legion Family members to visit Posts throughout the State.

Historically, Ernest A. Love Post 6 has bought a listing on the Run Sheet while ALR6 has purchased the

Ride Sheets for sale. I have asked the Post if it wants to participate again this next year and have not

received a reply. I will ask again at the January E-Board meeting. That will give us a week to get the order

in.

Roy Meek, from ALR81 in Lake Havasu, has started a Go Fund Me to raise $4,500 to pay for gas

for the Run For The Wall (Midway Run) riders going through Arizona on 13 May, 2020. This Run is

from Los Angeles to Washington, DC, and ends at the Vietnam Wall. Thousands of motorcycle riders

have made the Run since 1989. About a thousand will be make the Midway Run this year. The first fuel

stop in Arizona has been covered by Lake Havasu organizations, but two more fuel stops are not covered.

CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGE

I sincerely hope those receiving the newsletter by electronic device are able to view the

accompanying short film if it is permitted.

The last newsletter should have ended with two scriptures for you to take 30 seconds to look up.

They were to give some context to the statement I published that dealt with B. C. Christians. How could

there be Christians living Before GOD the Son was born upon ***His created planet ? (***proof text for

the preceding is Colossians 1:15-20 if you have the stones for it) The scriptures intended to be included in

the last letter were 1Peter3:18-22 and 1Peter4:6. Much time was spent trying to research what the Biblical

scholars reveal about these two passages. The first one some avoid altogether as it is very difficult for

even some of the really intelligent guys who read Hebrew and / or Greek to grasp. I thought theses verses

simply meant that while the physical body of Christ was at rest in the tomb He went in the Spirit to those

in the realm of what is sometimes called Abraham's bosom where He preached the Good News of

salvation to them.

Some say the two scriptures are unrelated. 4:6 may simply refer to some to whom Peter preached

had since gone the way of all flesh. 1Ptr.3:18-22 seems more difficult to interpret. Perhaps it refers to the

preincarnate Messiah preaching through Noah (see 2Ptr.2:5) even though they had 120 years to observe

Noah's faithfulness to the LORD only Noah and seven others were shut into the ark and saved from the

flood. The LORD vindicated Noah then and vindicates believers today the same as back in history thus

lending some understanding to B.C. Christians statement made in the previous newsletter. He is the same

today, yesterday, and for ever and His view of things is not linear as is ours.

Some similar ideas about this are seen in the following scriptures; Gen.6:2,4 and Job 2:1. These

show that the Lord has contact with those fallen from grace. The scriptures and notes were from the

Reformation Study Bible.

HONOR / COLOR GUARD

The members of the Honor Guard wish all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Your Honor Guard provided Military Honors for 24 departed brothers and sisters during the

months of November and December. For these same two months, the Color Guard participated in nine

events. Our dedicated team gave over 800 hours of their personal time to attend these services and

ceremonies to show our respect for our veterans.

On December 26, 2019 the Prescott National Cemetery (PNC) finally opened the new

Columbarium Wall.. As of this writing, the Honor Guard has not yet had a service in the new section of

the cemetery but we will soon see an abrupt change in our schedule. There are close to 150 cases ‘on

hold’ for families who have not been able to schedule a service for their loved Veteran.

As it was in 2007 when the columbarium wall at PNC first opened, the Honor Guard schedule will be at

full speed in the upcoming several months.

The “Guard’ has traditionally hosted the annual 4 Chaplains ceremony at the Post and this year is

no exception. The 45 minute ceremony begins at 1400 hrs (2 PM) on Sunday Feb 9. This ceremony

remembers and honors four men who sacrificed their lives when their attack transport, the U.S.A.T.

Dorchester was torpedoed and sunk by a Germen U-boat during WWII. A moving ceremony and well

worth your time.

The Honor Guard is very pleased to welcome a new member. Rich Caruso. Rich and his wife,

Holly are relatively recent transfers to Post 6 from Lake Havasu City. Rich, a Marine, comes to our group

with several years of Honor Guard experience. This is a good thing; we all know how difficult it is to

teach a Marine Glad to have you with us Rich!

(Cont’d.) 5

On the menu for Honor Guard breakfast on Sunday February 9 is Country-Fried Steak with eggs-to-order,

‘taters and stuff. Try to join us; we do our best to prepare a tasty meal for you. We start serving at 0900

hrs.

Keep the men and women of the Honor Guard in your prayers, not everyone can do this job.

Remember…it IS

“Our Honor To Serve”
