Popcorn Pick:‘Groundhog Day’

An unexplained phenomenon makesevery day Feb. 2 to Phil Connors, played by Bill Murray in this 1993comedy classic. The grouchy andself-centered TV weatherman is sent onassignment to cover the annualGroundhog Day festivities inPunxsutawney, PA., but after asnowstorm strands him and his crewthere, he wakes up to relive everymoment of the same day over and over,no matter what he does. Only when helearns to better himself and help othersis Connors able to use this wrinkle intime to his advantage.

WILL HE OR WON’T HE SEEHIS SHADOW ON FEBRUARY

2, 2017!!!!!!So just for fun, we will have a

guessing jar up by the office and youcan put your guess in as to whether ornot he will see his shadow. Accordingto Folklore, if it is cloudy when theGroundhog emerges from his burrow onthis day, then the spring season willarrive early. If it is sunny, theGroundhog will supposedly see itsshadow and retreat back into its den,and winter weather will persist for sixmore weeks.

AquariusThe Water Bearer

Heart Disease PreventionBy: Brian Rosso, R.D.This month I am writing about

living a heart-healthy lifestyle. Ihope you find the information belowhelpful in your everyday lives.

Visit your doctor on a regularbasis. Monitor your blood pressureand cholesterol levels.

Maintain a healthy weight. Keepyour body mass index (BMI) levelunder 25. BMI levels above 25 areassociated with an increased risk ofdeveloping heart disease. Your BMIlevel is determined by using aformula that includes a person’sweight and height.

Here is a list of heart-healthyfoods: salmon, oatmeal, tuna, carrots, spinach, broccoli, sweetpotatoes, asparagus, oranges, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and tea.

Limit your salt and saturated fatintake. American House offers manyheart-healthy food choices on ourmenu; just look for the picture ofthe heart.

Stay active. Try to do some form ofphysical activity 30 minutes everyday. This is also a great way tomanage stress!

Who are yourfavorite actors andactresses? Why doyou admire theirwork? What movies,TV shows or stageproductions havethey appeared in?

Do you preferwatching actorsperform comedy, drama or both? Doyou think a seriousrole or comedic rolewould be harder toplay, and why?

Have you everacted, perhaps ina school play, community theater oreven on TV or in amovie? If so, discussthe experience.

If you have neveracted, do you wishyou would havetried it?

Do you knowanyone who workedor currently works asa professional actor?

The Human HeartNot only is the heart a familiar

symbol of Valentine’s Day, but it’salso the focus of another Februaryobservance: American Heart Month.Celebrate this incredible organ withthese facts:

• Every day, the heart beatsaround 100,000 times.During the average person’slifespan, the heart may beat3 billion times.

• A healthy adult heart beats60 to 100 times a minute at rest.Well-trained athletes usuallyhave a slower resting heart rate.

• In most people, the heart islocated in the center of thechest, between the lungs, withthe largest part of the organtilting toward the left. The leftlung is smaller than the rightlung to allow room forthe heart.

• Make two fists and hold themtogether. This is roughly thesize of your heart.

• The average heart weighsbetween 8 and 10 ounces,or about the same weight asan apple.

• A man’s heart is about25 percent larger than awoman’s and can pump moreblood in a single beat. Femalehearts make up for theirsmaller size by beating faster,by about 8 beats per minute.

• The heart does the mostphysical work of any muscleduring a lifetime, pumping1.5 gallons of bloodevery minute.
