Hello, Yellow!Cheerful and bright, yellow is the
color of sunshine, sunflowers andsmiley faces. It’s a hue that is oftenassociated with happiness andoptimism. Even the brain agrees: Itreleases serotonin, the so-calledfeel-good hormone, at the sight ofyellow. The color’s light waves aresaid to stimulate the brain, makingone more alert, clearheaded andupbeat when it comes to mood anddecision-making.
Favorite Frosty TreatsWith a clanging bell or a happy
tune to announce their arrival, icecream trucks have served frozennovelties for generations. Here aresome time-tested favorites:
Ice cream sandwiches. A New YorkCity pushcart peddler is credited withinventing the ice cream sandwich in1899. For a penny, the vendor placeda scoop of vanilla ice cream betweentwo graham wafers, offering a newway to enjoy the frozen treat onthe go.
Popsicles. An 11-year-old Californiaboy named Frank Eppersonaccidentally made culinary history in1905 by leaving a cup of water withpowdered soda and a stirring stickout overnight. The concoction froze, and the popsicle was born. About twodecades later, Epperson sold hispatent for the “frozen drink on astick,” and it took off acrossthe country.
Ice cream bars. In 1920, a youngboy walked into the Iowa shop ofChristian Kent Nelson and couldn’tdecide whether to spend his nickel onice cream or a chocolate bar. SoNelson began working on a way tocombine the two, and after weeks ofwork, he created the chocolate-coated ice cream bar.
