The entire ARC preparedness foundation to

Chuck was to perform preventive maintenance

and not have to do any corrective maintenance.

Chuck adds that the most rewarding memories

happened while working with numerous age

groups and having his two sons work alongside

him. Marc-Charles Ingerson was a nineteen year

old ARC Volunteer and Morgen Ingerson was

thirteen. When Chuck would do the field training

in the military as a Non Commissioned Officer at

the NCO Academy, he would have his two sons

participate as ‘injured victims’. This would

produce concurrent training for the troops

which involved ARC procedures. In addition,

both young men obtained their Boy Scouts of

America Eagle Scout rank while keeping Chuck

actively involved with ARC and BSA.

In 2012, Chuck received 50 years recognition

with the BSA. Over the years, he was a Cub

Scout and a Boy Scout, both of which he was a

leader and a merit badge counselor. In addition,

Chuck has been a greater Rochester Chamber of

Commerce President and an instructor in the Jr.

Chamber of Commerce. Chuck also held a

‘poetry group’ for those in dependent living

homes, which he says were “lots of fun and

rewarding”. He started one of the earliest

Vietnam Veteran Clubs at Monroe community

College in 1967 and a second one at Oneonta

(University of NY) in 1969 where he served as

Southeast Georgia Chapter June 2013 Volume 2

A M E R I C A N R E D C R O S S

President of both. Among the many recognitions he

(and his family have received over the years) include:

SPOKE Award in Junior Chamber of Commerce;

Fellow designation in National Contract

Management Association; BSA District Award of

Merit; and multiple other community awards.

Chuck says that he has continued with ARC for as

long as he has because “it allowed me to work with

many different people over the years and keeps me

involved in the communities where we lived. In

addition, my family has actively supported me to

continue.” When asked how he managed to juggle it

all, Chuck responds, “simple, it gave us multiple

activities where we could be involved with our

family as well as offering community service over

the years.”

Since he and his family settled in Southeast GA, he

enjoys wildlife, photography and golf. Chuck also

writes prose and poetry daily- a passion he has had

since age eleven. To access his poems, use the

following link: http://dailypoems1.blogspot.com/

Chuck’s involvement with the Red Cross includes:

23 years in the Rochester Monroe County Chapter;

4 years in the US Military; 10 years in Frederick

Maryland area; in Jacksonville, FL for 23 years; and a

recent addition in Savannah for over a year.

Chuck is looking forward to continue volunteering

with the American Red Cross for many years to

come!

At a recent visit to the Southeast Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross, members of the Savannah

Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. donated over 130 infant kits for families with displaced

infants. The Sorority is a public service organization and during the week of May 6-11, the local chapter dedi-

cated their time to help non-profit organizations meet specific their needs. When approached by the Sorori-

ty, Red Cross Emergency Services Manager, Sharyn Baggett stated there that there was a great need for

infant kits, since there are many babies displaced in home fires and other disasters throughout the 25 county

response area. The kits contain various infant items, such as baby wipes, diapers, socks, blankets and more.

Delta Sigma Theta is also a supporter of the American Red Cross on a National level.

Hello Disaster Volunteers:

As many of you know the last few days have been devastating for those in the Midwest and especially

Oklahoma. The Southeast Georgia Chapter is actively supporting the disaster responses with both

fundraising and media interviews.

Many of you have expressed an interest in deploying to Oklahoma and other disaster events. To be

considered you should first update your availability in Volunteer Connection. Those with updated profiles

have a greater chance of being deployed. Deployments are prioritized by both open positions and

proximity to the disaster. So those who live closer to the affected area may be called to respond first and

then the remaining open positions will be filled with those farther away.

Even if your intentions are to be available for disasters only in our Region, please update your availability

as well, because with little notice we too could be called upon to serve our communities.

Here are the steps that will assist you with adding your current availability:

Open your Volunteer Connection, click on the Profile tab

Locate the edit button (above your picture) and click it open.

Scroll down to the Disaster Responder Availability line in bold.

Click on the Disaster Responder Availability line.

Follow the instructions to complete the information requested.

Click on the submit button.

If you have not activated your Volunteer Connection account yet, please forward a request to

[email protected] to have your information resent to you. Then look for a return email with

instructions to activate your account and update your contact information.

You are an important member of the Southeast Georgia Chapter team and we look forward to working

with each of you. Thank you for all of your efforts.
