TheHerffCollegeofEngineeringattheUniversityofMemphiswillhostthe2008ASEESoutheasternSectionConferenceApril6-8.TheUniversityislocatedintheheartofMemphisandeasilyaccessibletodowntown,theairport,localattractions,andshopping.EventswillbeheldoncampusintheHolidayInnHotel,awellappointedall-suitepropertyandfour-timenationalawardwinner,aswellastheFogelmanExecutiveConferenceCenter.Thehotelfea-turesabeautifullydeco-ratedatrium,restaurant,grill,lounge,fitness center, and 14,000 square feet of meetingspace.TheFogelmanExecutiveConferenceCenterisafull-servicemeet-ingfacilitywiththreeamphitheaters,��conferencerooms,twodiningrooms,and
5�newlyrenovatedqueen guest rooms.
TheHerffCollegewasestablishedin1964 at what was thenMemphisStateUniversitythroughagiftfromMr.andMrs.HerbertHerff.TheHerffCollegehasgrownintheensuingyearsandcurrentlyoffersundergraduatedegreesinBioMedi-cal,Civil,Computer,ElectricalandMe-chanicalEngineeringaswellasdegreesinComputerEngi-neeringTechnology,
ElectronicsEngineeringTechnology,andManufacturingEngineeringTechnology.TheundergraduateprogramsinCivil,Electrical,Computer,andMechanical

Authorsmayaddressothertopicsofinteresttotheengineeringeducationcommunityaswell.Guidelinesforpreparingthemanuscriptsareavailableathttp://cee.citadel.edu/asee-se/.Thisisapeerreviewedconference.Paperswillbeacceptedonthebasisofpeerreviewofthecompletemanuscript.Allacceptedpaperswillbeincludedintheconferenceproceedings.Authorsofacceptedpapersareexpectedtopresenttheirpapersattheconferencetofacilitatethetransferofknowledgethroughdiscussionanddebate.Inadditiontofullmanuscripts,alimitednumberofabstractsmaybeacceptedforpresentation.Theseabstractswillbepublishedinthebookofabstracts,butwillneitherbepeerreviewednorincludedinthereviewedproceedings.

ItisthatzealforparticipationinanorganizationthatCharlesholdsashighlyimportantthatgotmeinvolvedandhaskeptmeinvolvedinASEEoverthelastsevenyears.ItrulyenjoythesharingofpedagogicalapproachesandcurriculumfocusthatoccursattheannualSectionconference.Iespeciallyappreciatemeetingcolleagueswithsimilarinterestswhodesiretoimprovehowandwhatourstudentslearninandoutoftheclassroom.EveryyearIcomeawayfromourSectionconferencewithnewcontactswhohaveintroducedmetoinnovativewaystoimprovemyteachingandstudentlearning–thankyouSoutheastSection!
Ihopemanyofyouattendedtheenjoyableandproductive2007SectionMeetingandConferenceinLouisvillehostedbytheUniversityofLouisvilleandtheJ.B.SpeedCollegeofEngineer-ing.Iwanttothankallthosewhohelpedmaketheconferenceasuccess-especiallyMikeDayandJ.P.Mohsen,theConferenceSiteCo-Chairs,andKeithPlemmons,theConferenceTechnicalProgramChair.IalsowanttothankSheltonHoustonfortheleadershipheprovidedtotheSectionoverthelastyearandforthis conference. His shoes will be hard to fill. Thank you also to the 2006-2007 officers and conference paper reviewers. Your hardworkwasevidentinthesuccessoftheconference.
Nowthatthe2007ASEESEConferencehasconcluded,theSectionislookingforwardtoanewyearofactivitiesinclud-ingattendingtheNationalASEEConferenceinHawaiiinJuneandplanningandattendingourownSectionConference,hostedbytheUniversityofMemphisonApril6th–8th,2008.Manypeoplewillbeinvolvedinmakingthemeetingandconferenceagrandsuccess-especiallyDonVisco,theTechnicalProgramChair,andPaulPalazolo,theSiteChair.Theywillneedallourhelptomaketheconferenceasuccess.
We also need your help to define better ways the Section can
serveitsmembership.ThomasDion,theSection’sCampusRepsCoordinator,isconductingasurveyofthosewhoattendedtheLouisvilleConferencetopollthemembershipastoyourinvolvementinpresentASEEofferingsandyoursuggestionsforotherswaystheASEEcansupportyou.Ifyouhavenotalreadycompletedthesurvey,pleasedoso.Ifyouhavenotyetreceivedthesurvey,[email protected] forward it to you. The findings of this survey will be shared with the Section officers to help define future ASEE SE activi-ties.
IfyouarelookingtobecomingmoreinvolvedintheSection,please consider being an officer of one of the Section’s Divi-sionsorUnits.Thesegroupssupporttheannualsectionconfer-encethroughthereviewofpapers.However,IwelcomeideastogetthemmoreinvolvedintheSection.MaybeaDivisionwouldliketosponsoraworkshopattheconferenceoraspecialtopicalsession.PleasekeepinmindthefollowingdatesfortheSection:No-vember8thand9thisthefallboardmeetingwheretheDivisionand Unit officers as well as the Executive Board come together todiscussSectionneeds,direction,andoutcomesaswellastheupcomingSectionconference.AndofcoursethereistheApril2008conferenceinMemphis–Idohopemanyofyouwillat-tend.
