EDITOR’S NOTE Echoing the success of IOI Loders Croklaan (IOILC)’s two Creative Studios in the Netherlands and Malaysia, which were launched in 2010 and 2011 respectively, the Group recently unveiled its third Creative Studio at Channahon, USA. With state-of-the-art facilities, product developers are able to explore new ideas, shape inspirations and test new applications with IOILC’s technical experts. Read more about the story in our cover feature.

In line with the Group’s plans to expand its oil palm business, IOI Plantation has acquired close to 40% stake in Unico-Desa which increased its plantation landbank by 7.5% or 13,660 hectares, to around 200,000 hectares. The proximity of Unico-Desa’s estates to IOI’s own plantation land in Sabah will enhance cost savings and economies of scale.

IOI Properties (IOIP)’s venture to Xiamen, China has resulted in positive developments that will increase IOIP’s brand presence in the international front. Its fi rst foray, IOI Park Bo Bay, recorded 70% sales during its recent launch (page 13) while a groundbreaking ceremony kick started IOIP’s second project in Xiamen named IOI Palm City (page 12). In the local front, its La Thea Residences at 16 Sierra, Puchong achieved 80% sales within the fi rst few days of the launch (page 14).

On the Group’s sustainability efforts, IOILC has reached a major milestone in the importation of more than 500,000 ton of Certifi ed Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) into the European Union. IOILC is confi dent of this positive move due to the encouraging response of customers towards Mass Balance and Segregated palm oil (page 19). Another milestone is capped by IOI Oleochemicals’ approved proposal to the RSPO for the physical transition rules for certifi ed oleochemicals.

The region’s premier and most celebrated fi ne food event, MIGF 2013 is back with an interesting theme – “Cool Chefs – Cooking with Attitude”. Turn to page 27 for a glimpse of Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa’s two cool chefs as they mesmerise diners with their unique creations.

Lastly, one good news for photography enthusiasts! IOIP is organising a Photography Contest from 1 October till 30 November 2013 to allow photographers to capture the vibrancy and scenic landscapes of Puchong through the lens. The contest is open to IOI staff and public. Log on to myioi.com for more details.

Happy reading and happy shooting!

Accelerating Innovation @

CREATIVE STUDIOAMERICAS

Loders Croklaan Americas celebrated the opening of its Creative Studio with

a grand opening event on 5 September 2013. Driven by customers’ need to develop products with a wow factor, the

Creative Studio at Channahon reflects IOI Loders Croklaan’s creative approach in collaborating with customers to speed

product development and accelerate innovation.

IOI Loders Croklaan Americas’ Creative Studio is the third one created by IOI Loders Croklaan to serve its fats and oils customers, both local

and global. The first Creative Studio was officially opened in Wormerveer, the Netherlands in June 2010 while the second Creative Studio was

launched in March 2011 in Johor, Malaysia.

The new Creative Studio’s 16,000-square-foot, two-storey site represents an investment of more than USD$3 million in building and equipment. Customers

will have the benefit of the same approach adopted in Creative Studio Europe and Creative Studio Asia due to the implementation of the Safe Quality Food (SQF)

guidelines in the facility design.

A large classroom-style meeting room and two smaller, more intimate conference areas are designed with large windows overlooking a forested area on the southern shore of the Des Plaines river. Lab and pilot-scale equipment are installed in the centre of the bakery and confectionery studios which can accommodate development of all production ranges from retail and in-store products to high-volume consumer packaged goods items.

IOI Loders Croklaan Americas Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr Bill Troy described the Creative Studio as a “place where we can collaborate with our customers to build innovative and tailored applications to meet the needs of the market.” Mr Bill Troy, who officiated the event with Vice President (VP) of Research & Development (R&D) Mr Gerald McNeill and Director of Sales & Marketing Mr Tim Surin, also added that ideas can be turned into reality quickly: “It can do a two-year job in one month.”

During the grand opening event, members of the media and IOI Loders Croklaan executives toured the newly-completed facility, enjoyed tapas and hors d’oeuvres, and then experienced a Creative Studio session led by award-winning Pastry Chef Mindy Segal. In addition to enjoying classic delights, from the chef whom Jean Banchet Awards named “Best Celebrity Pastry Chef in Chicago,”

attendees of the event experienced first-hand how IOI Loders Croklaan collaborates alongside their clients to solve a problem, realise a vision or develop new product applications to deliver on big ideas at the Creative Studio.

“The opening of the Creative Studio is occurring at a very appropriate time as the market is recovering and product developers are looking to grow their bottom lines through innovation and new product development. The Creative Studio helps to accelerate this process, bring innovations to the market faster and allow clients to realise growth in a shorter period of time.”

On 7 September 2013, Pamol Kluang hosted a delegation from Neste Oil comprising its board of directors and management

team who were keen to learn more about upstream plantation process and palm oil mill operations. Neste Oil is a Finnish refi ning and marketing company whose business is based on two areas, namely oil products and renewables, and oil retail.

Led by Chair of the Board Mr Jorma Eloranta and President and CEO Mr Matti Lievonen, the group was greeted by Head of Group Commodity Marketing Ms Lee Yoke Hui, General Manager of Plantation Division Mr Tay Ching An, and Head of Sustainability Mr Too Heng Liew at Pamol Club.

They proceeded to visit Pamol Research Centre with its manager Mr Lai Hong Heng explaining to the visitors on the R&D efforts undertaken concerning planting of oil palms. At the training room, IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor welcomed the visitors and expressed his wish that the strong business relationship between IOI Group and Neste Oil will continue to fl ourish.

The visitors had a better understanding of plantation during the presentation on oil palm cultivation by Senior Manager of Mamor Estate Mr Kuppusamy, and palm oil mill operations by Senior Assistant In-charge of Pamol Mill Mr Chai Tian Siang. Best sustainability practices were shared by Mr Too and Neste Oil’s Sustainability Manager Mr Adrian Suharto on their respective companies’ sustainability efforts in driving forward the “green movement”.

supervisor does more than just supervising. To prepare its team of supervisors for the challenges the role entails, the Human

Resources department of Plantation Division recently rolled out a “Mastering Supervisory Skills” programme for supervisors in the Peninsular estates, mills and research centres to better facilitate their work.

The programme covered a wide range of topics relating to a supervisor’s role and how to enhance one’s skills to be better and more effi cient. Besides managing a team of people, the supervisor also has to be aware of its role in an organisation and how to work with other teams and departments to accomplish goals that help push the company forward towards its vision.

Led by Programme Trainer Mr Thangaraj, the supervisors were also encouraged to take a wider approach when faced with issues and challenges. The programme was successfully conducted in fi ve sessions for three regions, starting from July till September 2013.

IOI Records Lower Earnings in Q4

Corporation Bhd (IOI) recorded RM267.1 million net profi t for its

fourth quarter ended 30 June 2013 compared with RM414.4 million reported a year ago due to lower earnings from the plantation division, property investment and non-recurring gain realised at the previous corresponding quarter.

The plantation division’s 46% decrease in profi t to RM169.1 million for the quarter under review was attributed to lower crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel (PK) prices, though partly offset by higher fresh fruit bunches (FFB) production.

Meanwhile, increased sales volume from the specialty oils and fats sub-segment and higher margins from the refi ning and oleochemicals sub-segments boosted the resource-based manufacturing division’s profi t. Similarly, the property development’s operating profi t is 63% higher at RM203.8 million due to better revenue and increase in share of results from jointly controlled entities.

Moving forward, IOI Group is optimistic it will perform satisfactorily in the new fi nancial year ahead.

Good agronomy practices can improve estates’ productivity in terms of improved fresh fruits bunches (FFB) yields, and oil and

kernel extraction rates. In view of this, IOI Research agronomists spent two days to share with more than 82 heads of operating units, managers and cadets on Soil and Fertiliser Management. The seminars were held on 30 July and 2 August 2013 at Ladang Sabah Training School and Pamol Club House, respectively.

Manager of IOI Research Centre Sabah Agronomist Mr Chua Soon Tat, Mr Suparman Abbas Rauf and Mr Khoo Gay Hsiang, took turns to impart useful knowledge such as soil type and its management, nutrient-defi ciency symptoms and familiarisation with various fertiliser and their characteristics.

Both seminars ended with an interactive Q&A session where the participants highlighted issues at their estates and the trainers provided practical suggestions in overcoming those issues. According to General Manager Mr NB Sudhakaran, more sessions will be held to equip all the executives with practical knowledge and information.

Cadet Assistants(Trainees)Preparing for Careerin Plantation

The second batch of Cadet Assistants (Trainees) Programme 2013 commenced on 19 August 2013 at Paya Lang Club House to build a

team of future assistant managers that are equipped to manage IOI Group’s plantation estates. The 10-week training, comprising three weeks of classroom training and the rest spent in fi eld attachment, will end on 25 October 2013.

On the fi rst day, General Manager of Plantation Division (Peninsular) Mr Tay Ching An opened his briefi ng session by asking the cadet assistants, “Do you have the passion to work in plantation for 35 years? Plantation is the career that pays you to keep fi t!” He elaborated on the plus points of being involved in the plantation industry with a presentation titled “Towards a Successful Career as a Planter”.

Upon completion of classroom training and fi eld attachment, the cadet assistants will undergo a written test and post-interview session to determine their suitability for the position as an assistant manager in estates.

The programme provides a good platform for the cadet assistants to better understand basic principles, concepts and practices of plantation operations.

Inaccurate application rates, spray patterns and droplet size can affect the effectiveness of herbicide used. The higher labour and

material cost will see an increase in expenses spent on the overall spraying operation.

In a bid to reduce wastage, a half-day training on spraying pump and nozzle calibration attended by 30 executives was carried out at the Pamol Club House on 11 July 2013. Facilitated by Senior Assistant Manager In-charge (Mayvin 6 Estate) Mr Bathanathan Veloo, the group of managers, assistant managers and cadets were briefed on the proper calibration technique and herbicide mixtures or cocktails for weed eradication.

On 18 July 2013, IOI Sandakan Region paid a courtesy call to the Kinabatangan District police

station to convey its appreciation to the policemen for a job well done in keeping the area, particularly plantation estates and mills, safe and peaceful.

During the visit, General Manager Mr NB Sudhakaran presented a set of desktop personal computer and printer to the Offi cer-in-Command Police District (OCPD) Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Martin Lugu. Also present were Sandakan Region Managers Mr Imbau Taunagoi (Tangkulap Estate), Mr Awang Basuni Duali (Mayvin 2), Mr Bathanathan Veloo (Mayvin 5) and Mr Jupri Mado (Mayvin 6) together with their assistants. Lugu, in return, commended IOI Group for its support towards the police force and commitment in upholding its responsibility as a corporate citizen.

To be alert to potential dangers and risks to your well-being, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Awareness

helps you avoid becoming a victim by letting a potential assailant know that you are aware of what is going on around you. Awareness allows you to pick up on the subtle signals that warn you to be cautious and enable you to react quickly.

Problems range from minor verbal harassment to theft and robbery to serious physical and sexual assault. In view of the rising crime rates, the Corporate Training department together with Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng engaged Mr Michael LW Chong from Perfect Protection Sdn Bhd to conduct the “Personal Safety Talk” on 19 July 2013.

The trainer demonstrated some practical steps on how to defend ourselves against the attacker. Among the tips picked up by the 51 employees who attended the talk were:

• Use all your senses to be aware – avoid using headphones to listen to music while on the street or public transport.

• Walk, look and move with confi dence and with purpose. • Do not walk with your head down.

Overall the talk was a timely reminder to all on the importance of personal safety by raising situational awareness in public areas, and how to react under life-threatening situations.

Personal safety begins with awareness. Awareness begins with a clear understanding of one’s attitudes, values, self-esteem, personal strengths and limitations. What does your attitude, clothing, and body language say about your vulnerability? It continues with insight into the culture and environment – local attitudes towards strangers, gender perceptions, values, morals and means of communicating.

Transforming the Service Level in IOIP

Customer Service is expected when buyers purchase something (tangible or intangible) from the sellers. It is the

service provided to customers before, during and post-purchase period. Good customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectations results in satisfi ed customers, repeat buyers and good image.

Have you experienced excellent customer experience? What are the simple things or gestures that touched your heart? For those in the front line, the question is what can we do differently to set us apart from others providing mediocre customer service?

These questions were answered on 1 July 2013 when more than 200 IOI Properties Bhd (IOIP) staff underwent a two-day refresher course on the importance of “Service Ownership” at Palm Garden Hotel. Instilling a sense of service ownership in every staff, IOI Properties Senior General Manager (Marketing and Business Development) Ms Lee Yoke Har opened the session with an overview of how customer service in IOIP has evolved throughout the years, reinforcing everyone’s role to “own the service” and provide excellent customer service to customers, irrespective of job ranks. IOI Group Executive Director Dato’ Lee Yeow Chor was present at the workshop as well.

The staff benefi ted from the workshop led by inspirational trainer Mr Jonathan Low who has 20 years of professional and global hospitality experience. The participants were strongly encouraged to use the RATER Service Model in their interactions with customers.

After the workshop, the heads of departments were invited to attend a one-day training on “Service Coaching” to improve their overall service team results in service perception, service coaching and mentoring techniques, coaching and leading a winning service team and high performance. A variety of tools were introduced to help managers track and record service coaching sessions. Ms Lee also initiated a follow-up meeting to brainstorm on “Service It Forward” ideas to be implemented in IOIP to bring the current service standard to the next level!

The key learning points were:

• Key elements of exceptional service experience

• EQ (emotional quotient) for Service Mastery

• Exceeding customer’s expectations

• Language of positive communications – keys to

great service• Effective questioning and listening techniques

• Customer retention is an art

• Power of service teamwork

An informative booklet featuring quality townships by IOIP titled “The Next Evolution of Lifestyle Developments” was also distributed.

Judging from the numerous enquiries and priority registrations, the showcase was a success!

The highly-anticipated project of IOI Properties Bhd’s fi rst foray in Xiamen, China was recently launched with much success. On 6 September 2013, the luxurious

P&G Visits Pan-CenturyOn 17 September 2013, Pan-Century Oleochemicals Sdn

Bhd welcomed one of its multinational clients – Procter & Gamble (P&G) who was keen to learn more about oil palm plantation and IOI Group’s oleochemical operations.

The team of 25 visitors, comprising R&D Associate Director Mr Charlie Salvador, R&D China Technical Director Mr Gbenga Showole, Senior Engineer Mr Anurag Makrandi, Bodycare Department Manager Mr Raul Nicdao, Purchasing Manager Ms ZhiQi Lin and other commercial, technical and R&D personnel from P&G Singapore, China, Philippines, UK, US and Ukraine.

The team was led on a guided plantation tour to witness oil palm harvesting and mill activities. Over at Pan-Century’s headquarters, personnel from Marketing, Quality Assurance, Soap Production and Refi nery gave the visitors an overview of the company’s operations and updated them on its sustainable efforts, namely Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) initiatives. Also present were Pan-Century’s Head of Operations Mr Gurdev Singh and heads of departments.

On the whole, the visitors were thoroughly impressed with the fi rst-hand knowledge gained. Mr Salvador was satisfi ed with the current business partnership and looked forward to forge a closer collaboration between P&G and Pan-Century.

Much to its delight, Pan-Century was selected as a host company for the “Steam System Optimisation (SSO) – Expert

Programme” planned by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). This intensive training formed part of the Industrial Energy Effi ciency Programme for Malaysian Manufacturing Sector (IEEMMS) approved by Global Environment Facility (GEF) and UNIDO in June 2011.

By implementing Energy Management System based on the ISO 50001:2001 Energy Management System and Energy System Optimisation, the objective was to promote energy effi ciency improvements in the Malaysian manufacturing sector. Apart from that, the programme which encouraged technology transfer and know-how, also ensured the industry has a cadre of highly specialised steam system optimisation experts from the public and private sectors.

Eight participants, made up of managers and consultants from the manufacturing industry and representative from Pan-Century, benefi ted from this programme conducted by international UNIDO experts on SSO. In-depth technical information on troubleshooting and improving effi ciency of steam systems were shared through classroom lectures, on-the-job training and coaching by the experts.

Besides this, Pan-Century will have access to UNIDO’s complete set of steam measuring equipment and tools and selected personnel will continue to be trained specifi cally on SSO.

Other UNIDO programmes in the pipeline are Energy Management Systems (EnMS) in line with ISO 50001, and Systems Optimisation Programme (fan, air compressor and pump systems). All these are accomplished at no cost to the company.

Early 2013, Pan-Century Group began implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programme to transform the company to a

greater level in terms of competitiveness and effi ciency. When Head of Operations Mr Gurdev Singh offi cially formed the TPM Promotion Team (in which he also serves as a Chairman) on 29 April 2013, TPM’s roots grew stronger with many improvement plans in place. The team consists of TPM Secretariat, Autonomous Maintenance (AM), Planned Maintenance (PM), Focused Improvement, Education and Training, and Audit Committee.

The programme’s fi rst phase saw three model plants namely Hydrogenation-1, Soap Noodle Plant-1 and Physical Refi nery-2 implementing AM activities. The inaugural TPM training organised for managers in May 2013 by in-house trainer Mr Ravichandran was followed by the fi rst batch of TPM AM training for supervisors and operators by Ir Tay Kian Tiam in the subsequent month.

The fi rst AM step involved initial cleaning and identifying the gaps to restoring equipment to original conditions by putting up TPM yellow and red tags. Led by Mr Gurdev Singh, employees from all levels identifi ed a total of 164 red tags and 117 yellow tags. Weekly TPM time for all model plants was allocated during which the team members, from managers to operators, joined hands to clean the equipment and worked closely to rectify issues. Most have been resolved to date.

TPM Initiative Takes Root in Pan-Century

Every Wednesday brings together the Engineering, Safety and Utility departments as PCEO Refi nery Production Team organised activities to motivate the team towards continuous improvement and good housekeeping practice. The most recent TPM activity in Soap Noodle Plant-1 was held on 13 September 2013.

Concurrently, they are working on measuring Overall Performance Effectiveness (OPE) for all the plants by identifying eight major plant loss contributors such as shutdown, production adjustment, equipment failure, process failure, normal production loss, abnormal production loss, quality defects, and reprocessing.

With a string of activities in place, the TPM Promotion Team hopes to cover the whole plant in time to come and promote total employee involvement to ensure the programme’s success.

The 25kg Palmsabun® paper bag used by IOI Oleochemicals to pack soap noodles for the export market has been

transformed into an eco-friendly bag by Saponifi cio Gianasso, the Italian soap manufacturer and leader in the natural cosmetics industry who owns the I Provenzali brand.

The handmade “I Provenzali Eco-bag (Eco-bag of The Provencal)”, introduced at the Milano Design Week 2013 (9 to 14 April 2013), sports a minimalist seamless design (with no stitches) that respects the origin and the material from which it is generated. Created by Italian-Colombian designer Lucy Salamanca, the useful bag which would otherwise have been a waste matter has handles made from 100% pure organic cotton (certifi ed by Brazilian IBD Certifi cation) making it ideal for users who suffer from allergies and dermatitis.

“Every day, dozens of bags arrive at our factory in Genoa containing

100% plant-based raw materials which we use to manufacture our

soap. Every day, we control the quality and then these bags are emptied

and the process of making our true natural 100% plant-based soap

begins.

The more soap we make, the more bags we emptied. The bags would

have simply become waste if we hadn’t come up with an idea and a

real project. Thanks to our collaboration with Lucy Salamanca, it has

become possible for us to create a new way of recycling and today we

are proud to present our Eco-bag.”

RSPO-certifi ed Palmac®, Palmsabun® and Palmsurf®

Oleochemicals achieved a milestone with its

proposal for the physical transition rules for certifi ed

oleochemicals that was drafted at end of May 2012. Led by the ASEAN

Oleochemical Manufacturers Group (AOMG), the fi nal version was

submitted and approved by the RSPO Standing Committee Trade

and Traceability and RSPO Executive Board in June and July 2013

respectively.

Downstream users of Palmac®, Palmsabun® and Palmsurf® need

to take several steps in order for their end products to be RSPO-

certifi ed:

1. Register as a member with RSPO.

2. Be SCCS-certifi ed.

3. Ensure at least 95% of all palm-derived components in their

product is RSPO-certifi ed.

4. Apply for a license to use the appropriate RSPO trademark.

IOI Oleochemicals has been implementing various steps to keep our marketing teams, agents, distributors and other agencies informed due to the versatility of the manufacture of oleochemicals and its derivatives and complication of the processes. These include initiating:1. Training sessions for employees in the Penang and Johor

manufacturing sites.2. RSPO workshop for regional certifi cation bodies and RSPO

offi cials.3. Joint presentation on RSPO Oleochemicals for PIPOC

2013 Conference.4. Regular updates in the IOI Oleochemicals’ sales portal.

Loders Croklaan, one of the world’s leading suppliers

of sustainable palm oil, has reached a major milestone in the importation of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)-certifi ed palm oil – more than 500,000 ton of sustainable palm oil products has been imported and marketed by IOI Loders Croklaan in the European Union.

Over this period, IOI Loders Croklaan has seen the turnover of RSPO-certifi ed products grow progressively. IOI Loders Croklaan Sustainability Director Mr Hidde van Kersen affi rmed the strong commitment of IOI Loders Croklaan in supplying sustainable palm oil: “For 2013,

our goal is to increase the volume of certifi ed sustainable palm oil to 30% of our European sales. We are currently a leading importer of sustainable palm oil into Europe and see the 500,000 ton mark as proof that our efforts to make sustainable palm oil the market standard are yielding results.”

In terms of certifi cation systems, Mr Hidde sees a rapid movement towards palm oil offered as Mass Balance and

Segregated. “This is good news as both systems require physical shipments of sustainable palm oil into Europe, helping to make our market fully sustainable.”

IOI Loders Croklaan Reaches Milestone in Sustainable Palm Oil Imports

1st RSPO European Summit in Berlin

On 3 September 2013, stakeholders in the European palm oil industry gathered in Berlin, Germany, for the 1st RSPO European

summit. The theme of the summit was: “Certifi ed Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) in Europe: Taking the Market Transformation to the Next Level” with vital information on how the uptake of sustainable palm oil in Europe could be accelerated.

The summit was visited by several hundred stakeholders such as refi ners, manufacturers, NGOs and national organisations. The presentations and discussions took place in a positive atmosphere and dealt with both day-to-day challenges in the transformation to sustainable palm oil and the future. The national initiatives in France and Germany, committing to fully switch to sustainable palm oil, were in the spotlight as examples on how the demand for RSPO-certifi ed palm oil could be stimulated.

IOI Loders Croklaan Sustainability Director Mr Hidde van Kersen presented IOI Loders Croklaan’s view on the market for CSPO. As a leading importer of sustainable palm oil in Europe, IOI Loders Croklaan sees the Mass Balance scheme as an important tool to bring more CSPO to the market and help manufactures of consumer products in making the switch to, in the end, fully segregated sustainable palm oil.

The summit was a success and an important step in the European transformation to sustainable palm oil. RSPO will continue to host similar events more often in the consumer markets to increase the demand of CSPO.

Betapol®, one of IOI Loders Croklaan’s most groundbreaking innovations that mimics the unique fat composition and structure of human milk, may also have a positive physiological effect on brain function and physical development versus standard vegetable oils

used in infant formula.

Based on scientifi c research, fatty acid distribution within the fat molecule in infant nutrition may infl uence the way neuronal activity is regulated and optimised in the brain. Research indicates that the molecular structure of Betapol® could positively infl uence brain function and physical development.

The potential effects of Betapol® on infant brain development were presented by Professor Sebastiano Banni of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Cagliari, Italy on 16 September 2013. The presentation was held on the IUNS 20th International Congress of Nutrition in Granada, Spain and was attended by over 4,000 experts from the fi eld of nutrition.

IOI Loders Croklaan Europe Account Director Infant Nutrition Mr Stefan Thueringer commented on the positive outcomes of the scientifi c research: “We are delighted to see that Betapol® shows yet another advantage over conventional vegetable oil. This proves that Betapol® is indeed the natural standard for replacing mother’s milk fat in cases where breastfeeding is not an option.” Betapol®, the closest natural match to breast milk fat available, has become the scientifi cally substantiated standard for high-quality infant formula.

IOI Loders Croklaan Global IP and Regulatory Manager Dr Ulrike Schmid added, “Betapol® technology is covered by numerous patents worldwide protecting the unique fi ndings that producers of Betapol® based infant formulas can use to communicate the benefi ts of their products. We are happy to supply another positive effect to our customers.”

Run on 22 September 2013 which saw around 55,000 participants making their way across the 16.1KM route

from the city centre of Amsterdam to Zaandam. The annual run is the largest running event in the Netherlands.

Besides a sense of satisfaction in having completed the run, IOI Loders Croklaan Europe took the opportunity to raise funds for two charities, namely Move for MS (research funding on Multiple Sclerosis) and Europe Child Aid (for needy children).

The run which started at 11.50am posed great challenge to the runners due to the high humidity and lack of wind. But this did not deter the runners’ spirit as spectators cheered their friends and families along. All the runners from IOI Loders Croklaan Europe completed the distance with Eastern Europe Sales Manager Mr Marcin Troniarz

In case of a fi re in Gambia, the arrival of the fi re department is not a certainty. IOI Loders Croklaan saw the need to improve the situation

by donating its fi re engine to a foundation called Westland 4 Gambia which will drive the fi re engine from the Netherlands to the African country. On arrival, the foundation will hand over the fi re engine to the Gambian fi re department.

IOI Loders Croklaan Europe Manufacturing Director Mr Paul Koekoek embraced this social responsibility effort: “We work together with the local fi re department in our municipality and for the last years, our company’s fi re engine had

no offi cial use anymore. As a socially engaged company, we fully embrace this initiative and we are happy to contribute and give our fi re engine a second life.”

Westland 4 Gambia has been organising projects in Gambia for years. In 2013, it donated a mobile dental offi ce to the country, which is a great benefi t for the local youth. Early 2014, the fi re engine, a Mercedes L08D will be driven to Gambia in a special convoy, where it will be taken into service in one of the 11 fi re stations in the country.

Treasure HuntingOn A Sneaky Snake TrailTreasure HuntingOn A Sneaky Snake Trail

Hospis Malaysia’s 12th Charity Treasure Hunt was organised on 27 July 2013

to take 41 participants to hunt on a Sneaky Snake Trail from Kuala Lumpur to the Pearl of the Orient – Penang.

IOI Corporation Bhd participated as a Gold Sponsor as part of a corporate responsibility effort to support Hospis Malaysia, a charitable organisation that aims to alleviate sufferings of patients in their last stages of life by providing essential palliative care that promotes a healthier and dignifi ed life for those in serious need.

The “IOI MONSTERS”, represented by IOI Properties Senior General Manager Mr Tan Keng Seng, Company Secretary Mr Vincent Tan, Assistant Central Marketing Manager Ms Shirley Thum and Central Marketing Executive Ms Ling May Yuen, gathered early at Tesco Extra’s carpark in Taman Midah, Cheras where Chairman of Hospis Malaysia BGen (Rtd) Dato’ Richard Robless was at hand to offi cially welcome the participants and thank the sponsors during the handing over of mock cheques.

The hunt was fl agged off at 7.35am and dozens of teams revved up their vehicles to race against time and each other from Tesco Cheras to Taiping, Perak and onwards to Penang by 3.45pm to emerge as the “sneakiest” team.

The fi rst stop was in Bukit Beruntung in rustic Hulu Selangor where the participants had to solve fi ve snake-related questions, in line with the hunt’s theme, to decipher a riddle. Then, the teams made their way

to Bercham and Ipoh in Perak for the next set of questions. Shopping skills came in handy during a pit stop at Tesco, Ipoh where the teams had to buy fi ve “treasures” from the list given. Thinking caps were essential too, as the participants must think through a mind-boggling riddle and analyse the questions in order to bag the right “treasures”. The convoy of cars moved to Taiping next, to hunt for the fi nal questions.

The IOI MONSTERS clocked in 13 minutes ahead of the deadline, and fared well indeed with a commendable 29th placing from the 41 participating teams. For their effort, they won four passes to the interactive “School of Hard Knocks” at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The event ended on a high note at Hydro Hotel in Penang that saw many participants walking away with BHP petrol vouchers, Seiko watches, 4D/3N cruise packages and the Grand Prize – iPhone5!
