Overview

• The Americas Aerospace Quality Group (AAQG) is the G-14 Technical Committee of SAE International

• It is a cooperative organization within the aviation, space and defense industries in North, South and Central America

• The committee has provision for 20 voting members, of which there are currently 19

• Participants in the AAQG include Original Equipment Manufacturer, Suppliers, Government Representatives, Accreditation Bodies, Certification Bodies, Academia and other interested parties

• Objectives of the Project

– Develop aerospace industry standard to be flowed down to suppliers of Critical Safety Item (CSI) parts

• Scope

– Prescribe consistent requirements for CSI management for suppliers and sub-tiers who perform work for prime contractors receiving direct contracts from United States (U.S.) government agencies

– Consistent set of requirements flowed down to suppliers

– Consistent evaluation criteria

• Results of the Ballot

– Ballot failed with over 150 comments primarily due to lack of understanding of the requirement

– Comments reviewed and reconciled

• Resulting actions

– Revised the document

– Provided an explanation of unclear requirements

– Reissued the coordination draft of the document for comments (due April 30th, 2009)

• Problem Statement

– Product components for which the OEM Design Holder does not have direct control pose special challenges to communication of Design changes. Changes to Design, both configuration and process changes, have been identified as a key concern of OEMs and Authorities

• Scope

– The focus of this project is to address the process for determining and communicating changes to the Design Holder

– This information may reside at various levels in the supply chain and proper classification, communication, and approval of changes become very difficult

– This is further complicated by the fact that there is no standard methodology accepted in the industry for this process

• Deliverable

– A standardized change classification, communication, and reporting methodology and architecture which is endorsed by the Authorities and recognized by industry

• Outcomes – Results of the Ballots

– Balloted twice and failed

– Efforts being made to resolve comments

– Expected publication 2nd Quarter 2009

AS9003 QMS Inspection and Test

• Objective

– Update AS9003 in line with ISO 9001:2000 and AS9100

• Scope

– Inspection and test of QMS for non-complex, built-to-print items

– The proposed project will be posted on the AAQG website for a 60 day period

– The objective of the 60 day period is to determine if AAQG member companies will support the project

• Each sector may use a different name for this organization

• In the Americas, this organization is the Registration Management Committee (RMC)

RMC Meetings/Reviews

• The RMC general meetings are held the two days prior to each AAQG conference

• The RMC holds annual system reviews

– These meetings include AB surveillance and oversight planning

• The RMC participates in witness and surveillance audits of the system, through the Surveillance Sub-Team
