1-1. GENERAL INFORMATION.1-2. This manuat provides necessary and properinlormation for persons engaged in the operation andmaintenance of tbis Coffing SR Hoist, Any person(s)operating or naintaining this hois! must be famitiarwith th€ inlomation contained herein. We have artrcipated, as besr as wecan, what is needed to keep your hoist properly main-ta,rned, ser!,rced and repaired. Ivajor overhaul eftortsare not wiihin the scope of this maruali such repairsshould be made at an approved service center or byus. I l any oppral lng or marnlenan.e lnform.rrron herFin seems inadequate for youf particulaf problem, please call or wdte ouf service engineers. We sohcityour suggestio[s for improvements to this manus].1-3. All persons concerned with the installation, operation, inspection and maintenance ol this holstaie urgeal io reod American National Standard ANSI830.16. Thai Standard contains important rules(some mandatory and some ol an advisory nature)deslgned pl lmanly ro prevenr or minimrze lnluryand otherwrse protect ljf€, limb ard property. Youshould especially be aware of the mandatory rulesperlaining to inspectron requirements and the ad-visabiliiy of maintaining \rritten, dated a.nd signedinspection reports anal records.

1-4. HOIST CONSTRUCTTON.1-5. This Coffing Hoisl incorpofales a stronli, rela-tively liShtweight housing that pelmits easy move'ment of the hoist belween locatrons. The hoist ispowered by an electric motor lhat drives a charnsheave by rrse o[ a transroission. Control is achievedflom eithet a push'button or pendanl rope controlstation. The push-button control station operatesmagnetic controllers for hoist ope!ation. The pendantrope operaies a reversing swjtch for hoist operation.

On the push-button, single-speed hoists, both thepusb button and the magnetic controtler are mechani-ca.lly interlocked to prevent shorting the circuit andcausing major damage thereby. On th€ push-button,two-speedhoists the control elements are eleciricallyinterlocked oiily. On the pendanr lope hoisrs it is norpossible to engage both up and down circuits simul"tan€ously because both sets of switch rotor conraelsare mounted on a single spindle within the reversing

1-6. A strarn cable is buitt inro the pustFbuttoncable and is secu.€ly archored io ihe push-buttonstaiion and the hoist housing. The push-button st&iion mqv be us€d to pull the hoisi when mounreq on ahee moving trclley. How€ver.

is recomnended thata hanal geared or motorized trctley be used when thepulling effort required to move rhe hoisr exceeds 100pounds or when the application requires trequenthorimntal movement of the hoist,

1-7, Automatic limiI switches are built into thehoist to proteci it against damage resulting fmmovertravel in eithet direciion. When these switchesare properly maiota.ined and adjusted, the operatorneed not be overly concerned aboui dam€ing thehoist due to exceeding the functional travel limits ofthe hoisi. The operstor should bear in mind, ho$evef, that the limir switches are SAFETY DEI'ICES, androutine or constallt use of them to stop hoist travelmust be avoided.

1-8. LEADING PARTICULARS.1-9. The oporaior should be a*afe of the capabil-iiies and capacity of his hoisr. He musr refrain fromoverloading. Overloading not only car cause danageto the hoist, but presents serious threats to personsaround the hoist. The follolvina are some leadjngpariiculars lvjth which the operator shoutd be fa-mili ar.

sEcTtoN lllOPERATION

3_1. SAFEIY CONSIDERATIONS.3-2. This hoist is designed for proper operationwithin the limits ot its rated capacity. This hoisrhas features designed to minlnize rhe porentia.l forinjury due to the failure ot ihe hoist itseif. How€ver, here ate some additional poiniers which should betol lowed rn ordpr ro pnsure propar opFrarron.

a- Do not overload the hoist.b. Do not make exireme side pulls with the

hoisl. On trolley momted hoists !.lways posirionhoist direclly over the load belore lilting.

c. Operate the holst only in a hanging positionwith adequate suppori. I\4ake €ure that the load doesnot contact any obsiructrons.

d. Be sure there are no twists or kinks in tbeload chain as rt travels into lhe hoist housing. Thiscondition must be constantly checked on ihe doublechained hoists becruse it is possible for rhe loadblock !o be "capsized" or turned over o e or morelimes.

e. Before raising a load, always check to seethat it is held securely in the hook or sling chsins, eic. Raise the load only until the load chain is rauiand then double check the rigging before conrinujngto raise the load, Never use the hoisi ioad chain insling fashion around the load.

f. Make sLre that ihe slings and orhef rigginghave sufficient capacity to support the load, And areil, good condiljon.

8. DO NOT STAND OR WALK BENEATH ALOAD. Do not move the load in such a firdane! as toendanger personnel,

h. Never ledve 8 suspended load unattended.i . Do not loqer the load into areas *here vis i-

bility is obscured unless someooe else is guidrng theoperatron,

j. Use common sense at all times wheo opera-t ing a hoisl .

K. DO NOT USE THE HOIST TO L]FT, SUP.PORT OR TRANSPORT HUMANS.

3 3. OPERATION.

3-,1. The hojst should be operated by qu. ified per"

sonnel or1y. Be sure to perform the daily inspecrjonsspecified herein pdor to first use each day. Pay paFticular atteniion io the limir slvirch operarion, rhebr.rkes, . d chain travel into ihe sheave. Avoid ex-cessive inching ard quick reversals, as these cancause accelerated brake wear and unnecessarystresses. Do not routlnely move tbe book so as toactuate the limit switches, as these are safety de-vices only. Avoid swinging the loador hook if the hoistis mounted on a trolley. Do not operate the hoist if itis functioning improperly, hqs been inadverientlyoverloaded. or is in obvious need of repair. Alwaysafix a warnjng or "Out-of-Order" tag to the controlstation of a suspect hoist until the proper inspection/repair has been made.

3-5. LOWERING WITHOUT POWER.CAUTIONT Do not allov the load to descend rapidly. This causes the motor !o race and serious damagemay result. Use severAl quick releases instead ofholding brake open continuously, Do no! exceed nor"mal lowedng sp€ed.3-6. I f ihe power fai ls with a load suspended, thehoisr will automatjca.Ily srop a.1d hold the load sus:pended. In an energency, !h€ losd can be loweredwithout power. On the pendant rope models, puII iheDOIVN conirol rope ond lower the load in short in-crements (alproxrfiately 3 iDches), each iime releas-ing the pull rope !o ullow the brake ro reset3-7. On the push-button shoe bral<e models, dis-connect the hoist from ihe po'ler source md open theelectricrl cover. Then caref!.lly push dovrn on thebrate solenoid plunger with brief iniermitteni pushes.Lower the load in short increments (appfoximately 3inches),

3-8. On the push-bution.disc brake models. discon-nect the hojs! liom the power source and removescrews (11, Figure 7-5B), vashers (12) and cover(10). Pdl on the back of armature plate assenbly(26) with brief intermiitent pulls. Lower the load rnshort incremenls (approximately 3 incbes ).
