Steel Challenge Shooting Association

PIRU, Calif. –-(Ammoland.com)- Smith & Wesson’s B.J. Norris

outgunned two-time World Speed Shooting Champion Rob Leatham of

Springfield Armory to win the Production division title at the 2010 Steel

Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships this past weekend in

Piru, California.

Norris, who used a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol,

dominated the field by winning six of the eight stages on his way to a

final time of 93.56 seconds. Norris’ time, which was 6.82 seconds faster

than Leatham, also placed him 14th overall in the match.

“I’m pretty happy with how I shot. I only had to eat a couple

slow runs here and there, but overall it was a very solid

performance the match and my time of 93.56 is usually good

enough to win the Limited division,” said B.J Norris.

Norris’ was so strong that he would have placed second in the Limited

division.

Finishing third behind Leatham’s 100.38 was fellow Smith & Wesson

shooter Mike Seeklander who won one stage to post a final time of

108.66.

Fourth place went to Bradley Holt who shot a time of 115.98 while fifth

place, and the Women’s Production title, went to the captain of the

Smith & Wesson shooting team Julie Golob with 121.20.

Norris’ was one of nine titles won by the Smith & Wesson shooting team

during competition at the Steel Challenge.

Long Gun Registration – LastChance to Kill a Bad Bill Beforeits the LawAUG 27, 2010 03:51P.M.

Long Gun Registration – Last Chance to Kill a Bad Bill Before

its the Law

California Outdoor Heritage Alliance

California --(Ammoland.com)- Legislation is pending on the California

Senate Floor that would expand the current handgun registration law to

long guns by requiring the CA Attorney General to permanently maintain

a registry of ALL firearms purchasers.

Under the provisions of AB 1810 (Feuer), those who purchase or transfer

a shotgun or rifle will be required to register that firearm by submitting

their name, address, place of birth, phone number and occupation to the

California Department of Justice. [a defacto registration of gun owners]

AB 1810 could come up for a vote on the Senate Floor at any time. Please

help COHA stop AB 1810 by immediately submitting a letter of

opposition to your Legislator and the full Senate.

AB 1810 (Feuer) – Long Gun Registration – OPPOSE

Delta Waterfowl and COHA Board Member regarding the possible

impacts of AB 1810. Video Link

AB 1810 (Feuer/D-Los Angeles) proposes to expand the current handgun

registration law to long guns by requiring the Attorney General to

permanently maintain a registry of all firearms purchasers. Under the

provisions of AB 1810 (Feuer), those who purchase or transfer a shotgun

or rifle will be required to register that firearm by submitting their name,

address, place of birth, phone number and occupation to the California

Department of Justice.

Unfortunately, AB 1810 raced through the Assembly earlier this summer

and is moving equally quick on the Senate side. The measure passed out

of Senate Appropriations Committee in early August and is now headed

to the Senate Floor, where it will come up for a vote in mid August.

COHA believes that AB 1810 is an extreme invasion of personal privacy

masked as an important crime fighting tool. At this point, it is unclear

whether or not California’s existing handgun registration law is helping

to fight crime in any meaningful way. [But it is safe to assume that it will

be no different in California than any where else in the world were it

has not made a difference in crime]

Therefore, it is unnecessary to greatly expand the handgun registration

law to include all firearms – particularly given that traditional sporting

arms make up less than 10% of all firearms related homicides in

California each year.

The California Outdoor Heritage Alliance (COHA) will continue to fight

this intrusive and unnecessary measure on the Senate Floor. If you

would like to assist COHA in defeating this bill in the Senate, please

contact your Senate representative.

State Senate Sample Letter

insert date

The Honorable YOUR STATE SENATOR

RE: AB 1810 (Feuer) – Oppose

Dear YOUR STATE SENATOR:

I am writing to oppose AB 1810 (Feuer), which would require

the registration of all newly purchased firearms, including

shotguns and rifles commonly used for hunting purposes.

More specifically, AB 1810 would require the Attorney

General of California to permanently keep and maintain a

firearms registry that includes extensive personal

information of all firearms purchasers. Under AB 1810, those

who purchase a firearm will be required to register that

firearm by submitting their name, address, place of birth,

phone number, occupation, and sex to the California

Department of Justice.

AB 1810 is little more than an extreme invasion of personal

privacy masked as an important crime fighting tool. At this

point, it is unclear whether or not California’s existing

handgun registration law is helping to fight crime in any

meaningful way. Therefore, it is unnecessary to greatly

expand the handgun registration law to include all firearms,

particularly given that traditional sporting arms make up less

than 10% of all firearms related homicides in California each

year.

AB 1810 would not help law enforcement agencies solve

crime, but rather unnecessarily invade the privacy of

otherwise law abiding hunting and sport shooting

enthusiasts. Because the bill’s negative ramifications far

outweigh its potential positive benefits, I urge you to oppose

AB 1810.

Sincerely,

YOUR NAME

Auctionguns.us

Boynton Beach, Florida – -(Ammoland.com)- AuctionGuns.us is a

new gun, knife, bow, and hunting auction site that donates a percentage

of all collected fees to the NRA.

The site has a number of seller empowering tools such as Twitter

integration, Google Base integration, and RSS feeds for stores.

AuctionGuns.us was started by a group of avid gun collectors who

unfair and the fees at other firearm related auction sites were way too

high.

social networking, RSS, and more to assist in the sale of items on the site.

Smith & Wesson Junior Shooters, Crow, Sarabia and Smith

Score Steel Challenge Wins

Janae Sarabia finished third among all women in the Open division.

Steel Challenge Shooting Association

PIRU, Calif. –-(Ammoland.com)- As a sign of things to come, three

junior shooters on the Smith & Wesson shooting team, Janae Sarabia,

Molly Smith and Rachel Crow each claimed wins at this year’s Steel

Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships in Piru, California.

Janae Sarabia finished with the second best score of any of the Smith &

Wesson women with her Open division performance where she won the

Junior Women’s Open title and finished third among all women. Her

final time of 112.65 seconds put her just 3.87 seconds behind teammate

and second place shooter Kay Miculek, and 11.15 seconds behind the

winner and defending champion Jessie Abbate.

“I didn’t shoot as well as I’d hoped but I’m pretty satisfied

with my finish, especially on Outer Limits where I shot one of

my best times,” said Sarabia.

Earlier in the year, Sarabia, who is just 13 years old and proving to be

one of the strongest additions to the Smith & Wesson shooting team,

came within one stage of defeating team captain Julie Golob in

competition at the Smith & Wesson International Revolver

Championship.

In the Iron Sight Revolver match, Smith & Wesson’s other junior

powerhouse Molly Smith not only won the Junior title but took the

overall Women’s title by edging out teammate Annette Aysen.

Smith, who found it personally difficult defeating her close friend Aysen,

won six of the eight stages to finish with a time of 137.05 seconds to

Aysen’s 140.70.

“I shot the best I ever have and set a new personal record. It

was really exciting shooting by personal best at a big match

like this, but it was very bittersweet beating Annette. We kind

of have an agreement that if there is anyone we’d want to lose

to it would be each other,” explained Smith.

“But she still has me in the IRC so I’m not that good yet,”

added Smith.

Rounding out Smith & Wesson’s collection of junior titles was Rachel

Crow who finished as the top lady in the Open Sight Revolver match.

Crow, who also competed in the IRC with Sarabia and Smith, posted a

final time of 155.32 seconds to win the Women’s OSR title.

Also claiming titles for Smith & Wesson were B.J. Norris in the

Production division, Julie Golob with wins in the Limited and

Production divisions, Phil Strader who claimed the Iron Sight Rimfire

title and Jerry Miculek who won the Open Sight Revolver title and

posted the third fastest time in the Steel Challenge.

Modern Day Hunting Action Hero, Tom Miranda, Moves Two

Whitetail Country and Territories Wild to Air on Sportsman Channel

Starting in 2011.

Sportsman Channel

New Berlin, Wis --(Ammoland.com)- Known worldwide for his

hunting prowess of all big-game species, Tom Miranda, also an author,

famous trapper and long-time television host and producer, is bringing

his two iconic hunting shows, Whitetail Country and Territories Wild to

Sportsman Channel, the leader in outdoor TV for the American

Sportsman, starting in July 2011.

The addition of Miranda’s two HD-produced shows adds to Sportsman’s

already stellar lineup of high-quality, educational and entertaining HD

programming. This news comes on the heels of archery titans, Easton

and Muzzy Broadheads, moving their shows exclusively to the network in

2011 as well.

“Tom Miranda’s shows are our version of ‘must-see’ TV in the

outdoor world,” said Sportsman Channel CEO Gavin Harvey.

“Tom’s decision to bring Whitetail Country and Territories

Wild to Sportsman is another indication that we are

delivering on our promise to offer the absolute best in

outdoor programming.”

“I am excited to bring my flagship shows to Sportsman

Channel next year,” said Miranda. “We filmed some amazing,

up-close-and-personal hunts this year that I can’t wait to

share with their audience. Rest assured, the viewers won’t be

disappointed!”

support of independent producers, and launched an HD feed with more

than 50 percent of the current programming in HD. Recent distribution

launches include Comcast systems in Denver, Atlanta and Portland.

Whitetail Country

Whitetail Country dives into various geological parts of the whitetail

woods, as well as applicable techniques and strategies for the region.

Alongside Miranda, viewers will enjoy industry veterans like Bill Jordan

of Realtree, bowhunter Hall of Famer Chuck Adams and premier deer

hunter Greg Miller.

In Territories Wild, Miranda explores dangerous terrain, hunts the “big

six” in Africa, and takes on the Super Slam across the globe. No matter

the species, Miranda dives into tactics and strategies so viewers can learn

the who, what and where of bowhunting for big game.

From humble beginnings as a schoolboy trapper, Miranda has taken his

love of the outdoors and turned it into the career of a lifetime. Running

trap lines near his hometown of suburban Columbus, Ohio, he learned

the ways of the wild. After high school, when many graduates went off to

college, Miranda was off to the wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to

build his own log cabin and launch his professional trapping career.

Questioning parents and confused friends maybe didn’t understand, but

he knew that his life pursuit was found along the streams and wild

places.

Several years later, he found himself in South Dakota, working as a

government trapper and hunter, mastering the art of trapping and

honing his skills. These bold steps have since led to authoring five books,

more than 60 how-to trapping and hunting videos, and eventually the

chance to host an outdoor adventure show.

In 1992, he became the adventurous Saturday morning bow hunter on

ESPN. The “Outdoor Adventure Magazine” TV series took him around

the globe on exciting expeditions, and his viewers followed. Hunting

whitetails one week, ducks the next, Miranda brought his own twist of

adventure to each show by adding some adrenaline excitement. Bungee

jumping, skydiving, top gun school…if it was exciting and

dangerous…Tom Miranda was doing it. Learn more at

Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum

Arizona Game and Fish Department

PHOENIX, AZ – -(Ammoland.com)- Hello Shooters: Many patrons of

the Ben Avery Shooting Facility have been following the developments

over the last six weeks related to the Pioneer Arizona Living History

Museum property located west of I-17 on Pioneer Road in Phoenix. That

property borders the Ben Avery property to the north. The following is

an update.

The Phoenix City Council voted at a special session on Aug. 18, 2010, to

authorize the City to acquire the Pioneer Arizona Living History Museum

property from the current owner, either by purchase, donation, or by the

power of eminent domain. The current owner had acquired the 92-acre

property at a state land auction on July 15, 2010, narrowly outbidding

the City.

The City has had a long-standing interest in acquiring the property for

the purpose of preserving the museum and land. The Arizona Game and

Fish Commission voted unanimously at the Commission’s February

2009 public meeting to support the City’s acquisition efforts to ensure

that a family-friendly, historical-themed park be maintained at this

location, which would also be compatible with the ongoing operations of

the shooting range and serve as a buffer against encroachment.

The Ben Avery Shooting Facility has been in operation since 1960. It is

rated a Five-Star facility by the National Association of Shooting Ranges,

has been designated a Phoenix Point of Pride, and supports more than

200,000 visitor days annually. The facility is owned by the Arizona

Game and Fish Commission and professionally managed and operated

by the Arizona Game and Fish Department. It provides a safe, controlled

environment that supports recreational and competitive shooting, as

well as a venue for law enforcement training, military training, hunter

education, beginning and advanced firearms training, and CCW training.

Ben Avery serves local, state, national and international shooters and

events. Recent high-profile events hosted at the facility include the 2008

U.S. Olympic Archery Trials, the 2010 U.S. Skeet Open, the annual

Winter Range cowboy action and cowboy mounted shooting

championships, and the annual Western Civilian Marksmanship

Program (CMP) and Creedmoor Cup high-power rifle competitions, to

name a few. In addition, the facility hosts the annual Arizona Game and

Fish Department Outdoor Expo, which draws more than 30,000 visitors.

While all Arizona residents and out-of-state visitors have access to the

unique Arizona opportunity that the Ben Avery Shooting Facility

represents, the Arizona Game and Fish Department receives no general

tax revenue, and the range and its facilities represent the contribution of

substantial shooter, archer, and sportsmen and sportswomen dollars

that support this world-class venue.

The Department will continue to monitor developments on this issue.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department prohibits discrimination on the

basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its programs

and activities. If anyone believes that they have been discriminated

against in any of the AGFD’s programs or activities, including

employment practices, they may file a complaint with the Director’s

Office, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix, AZ 85086-5000, (602) 942-

Arlington, VA 22203. Persons with a disability may request a reasonable

accommodation or this document in an alternative format by contacting

the Director’s Office as listed above.

Julie Golob competes on Smoke & Hope. The Smith & Wesson team

captain used the same M&P Pro and Safariland holster to win both her

titles.

Steel Challenge Shooting Association

PIRU, Calif. –-(Ammoland.com)- Helping to set the tone for the rest of

her team, Smith & Wesson’s shooting team captain Julie Golob knocked

off defending champion Jessie Abbate to claim the Women’s Limited

division title during Friday’s competition then outgunned Glock’s Randi

Rogers on Saturday to take the Women’s Production title at the Steel

Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships in Piru, California.

Golob accounted for two of the nine titles that Team Smith & Wesson

picked up during the three day speed shooting competition.

“The Steel Challenge is one of the most intense matches on

the circuit. The women competing here are incredibly

talented and going into the event I knew I would have to be at

the top of my game to win,” said Golob.

“The Steel Challenge is all about control for me and not

shooting outside of my ability. It’s easy to get lured into

shooting someone else’s pace but I was able to stay focused. I

used a Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm and Safariland

production rig in both divisions. I love this set up and to be

undefeated at this year’s Steel Challenge was an absolute

thrill,” said Julie Golob.

Julie Golob’s performance on Outer Limits helped win her the

Production division title.

In Friday’s Limited division match Golob won just three stages to

Abbate’s five but finished with a final time of 113.72 seconds, outpacing

Abbate’s 116.41 by 2.69 seconds.

On Saturday, again shooting the Smith & Wesson M&P, Golob went

head-to-head with Rogers with each winning four of the eight stages.

However, it was Golob’s performance on the stage called Outer Limits,

where she picked up 5.01 seconds on Rogers, that gave her the advantage

and ultimately the win.

Golob finished the Production event in a time of 121.20 seconds to

Rogers’ 125.98, a difference of 4.78 seconds.

Earlier in the match Golob finished ninth overall with a time of 106.85

seconds in the Iron Sight Rimfire event where she was the only woman

competing. Her fellow teammates, Phil Strader and John Bagakis,

finished first and third respectively in the same event.

Ishikawa Holds Off Trio of Smith & Wesson Shooters For Steel

Challenge Wheelgun Win

Seiichi Ishikawa held off three of Smith & Wesson’s best revolver

shooters, to take the Iron Sight Revolver title at the 2010 Steel Challenge

World Speed Shooting Championships...

Steel Challenge Shooting Association

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. --(Ammoland.com)- PIRU, Calif. – In the

closest match of the Steel Challenge, where just 1.26 seconds separated

the first place shooter from the fourth, Seiichi Ishikawa held off three of

Smith & Wesson’s best revolver shooters, Elliot Aysen, John Bagakis and

David Olhasso, to take the Iron Sight Revolver title at the 2010 Steel

Challenge World Speed Shooting Championships in Piru, California.

Ishikawa, who did not win a single stage during the competition, shot a

solid match from start to finish and posted a final, winning time of

119.59 seconds to edge out the second place Olhasso. Olhasso, who won

three stages in the match, posted a final time of 120.05 seconds.

“It was a tough match so I was really pleased with the way I

shot. With just 1.26 seconds between the top four shooters, it

could have been anybody’s match,” said Ishikawa.

“I shot pretty steady throughout though I didn’t have any

stage wins. I had just one rough stage and going into the final

stage, Pendulum, I knew that I needed to get through it

without any problems and though I shot it a little slower than

I did in practice, overall my time was where I’d hoped it

would be.”

Third place went to Bagakis, the three-time IRC champion, who won just

one stage but finished with a time of 120.20 seconds.

Finishing fourth was Michel Tanita who also won three stages on his way

to a final time of 120.85 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Aysen

who won a single stage and ended with 131.01 seconds.

Among the lady shooters, Team Smith & Wesson’s Molly Smith, a junior

shooter, edged out fellow S&W teammate Annette Aysen, wife of Elliot

Aysen, to take the Women’s Iron Sight Revolver title. Smith posted a

final time of 137.05 seconds to Aysen’s 140.70.

Claiming the Senior Iron Sight Revolver title was John Maxwell who shot

the match in a time of 158.34 seconds.

U.S. Army Marksmanship Soldiers Return Home With

Multiple Shooting Titles

By Michael Molinaro

USAMU PAO

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – Soldiers from the U.S. Army Marksmanship

Unit’s Service Pistol team won the National Pistol Championship overall

team championship. Team members were: (front) Staff Sgt. Lyman

Grover; Staff Sgt. Robert Park; and Staff Sgt. Patrick Franks. (back) Sgt.

1st Class James Henderson; Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Wilson; and staff Sgt.

John Ennis.

United States Army Marksmanship Unit

FORT BENNING, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- Soldiers from the U.S.

Army Marksmanship Unit completed one of the unit’s most successful

runs in recent years at the 2010 National Rifle and Pistol Championship,

winning multiple individual and team championships, setting national

records, and upholding the unit’s reputation as the “Home of

Champions.”

Accomplishing the unit’s mission to enhance the Army’s recruiting effort

and raise the Army’s combat readiness takes up a lot of the Soldiers time,

so the USAMU Soldiers’ intense desire to train to win enabled them to

prevail at Camp Perry.

“Our expansive mission of supporting the war-fighter limits

the amount of time available to prepare for the National

Championship,” said Sgt. 1st Class Kyle Ward,

noncommissioned officer-in-charge of the service rifle team

“When the team is able to come together and train, everyone

is extremely focused on the task at hand.”

The crowning achievement for the unit was finishing first in all of the

major team competitions at the championships. The USAMU Service

Pistol’s Blue team started things off by winning the “Coming Through

the Rye” trophy as the top four-man pistol team, winning the title for the

second time in the unit’s history.

Soldiers from the International Rifle team followed that up by winning

the prone any sight team championship during the smallbore matches,

defending their crown from a year ago. Soldiers from the Service Rifle

team completed the sweep, winning the “Dogs of War” trophy and the

coveted National Trophy Infantry Team match.

Much of the team’s success is credited to teamwork, Ward said. Soldiers

helped each other out during training sessions, communicated well

during the matches, and, as is always the case at the USAMU, the

Custom Firearms Shop provided the direct support that enables the

USAMU to stand tall above the rest.

“I attribute much of our success to the professionals in the

Custom Firearms Shop and loading facility who went the

extra mile in ensuring that we had the best equipment

possible,” said Ward.

Individually, USAMU Soldiers stood out amongst the huge field of more

than 6,000 competitors throughout the six-week period in July and

August.

Sgt. Sherri Jo Gallagher persevered against one of the toughest field of

competitors in the history of rifle competitions to win the national high-

powered rifle championship. Gallagher set a new national record in the

process with a score of 2396-161x, beating out a ten-time champion, a

four-time champion, and the defending champion.

She is the first service member to win the championship since 1987 and

only the second woman ever to do so—her mother was the first.

Gallagher won eight individual matches, seven aggregate championships

and set four other national records over the course of the week.

Staff Sgt. Shane Barnhart swept the field during the smallbore matches,

winning both the national three-position and prone championships, the

second consecutive year a USAMU Soldier has accomplished the

incredible feat and only the third shooter ever in the history of the

matches. It was the fourth time he won the three-position championship.

“I have been close to winning the prone before, but this year I

was hungry for it,” Barnhart said. “I worked my butt off

during the entire nationals. I never let up.”

“Being only the third person in history to double up on the

championships feels amazing. This motivates me to really

train hard to make the Olympic team and World Cups.”

Staff Sgt. Robert Park led the way for the Service Pistol team. Park won

the prestigious President’s Pistol Trophy for the second time and

finished in third place overall at the National Pistol Championship, his

first time making the podium. He was a member of three team

championships and won three other individual titles, including the

overall service pistol champion during the Civilian Marksmanship

Program’s National Trophy Pistol matches.

Soldiers are primed for a busy fall season conducting marksmanship

training for Soldiers preparing to deploy. Combining the unit’s

performance at the nationals with their sheer dominance in the

Interservice competitions, the training those deploying Soldiers will

receive will undoubtedly come from the best.
