When asked by HunterSurvey.com and AnglerSurvey.com if they were buying more, less or about the same amount of gear used for their sport this year when compared to last, 40.0 percent of hunters said the amount they purchased has remained the same, while 39.6 percent of anglers said there had been no change in their buying habits. That compares to 40.1 percent and 37.8 percent respectively when asked the same question in 2009. Anglers responding that they were buying more in 2010 showed the biggest percentage change from 2009 with six and a half percent fewer fishermen (22.7 percent in 2009 versus 16.2 percent this year) saying their purchases have increased. Meanwhile, 39.5 percent said they would buy less this year when compared with 36.4 percent in 2009. The number of hunters expecting to spend more in 2010 dropped only slightly to 19.8 percent from 21.6 percent the previous year. Of those anticipating fewer purchases, 35.7 percent said they would be spending less compared to 33.5 percent in 2009. Considering the natural variation common to any poll, the differences are not considered significant. “This is decent news for sporting goods manufacturers and retailers who have been uncertain about the effects of the soft economy. While it appears a slow economic recovery is preventing some sportsmen from rushing out and spending at levels seen in 2007, it appears sales in 2010 will fair rather well, given the softness seen in other retail sectors,” said Rob Southwick, president of Southwick Associates, which designs and conducts the surveys at HunterSurvey.com and AnglerSurvey.com. “Once we get through the current hunting season and upcoming holidays, we’ll know for sure.” Those who hunt, fish and target shoot are invited to participate in the surveys conducted on HunterSurvey.com and AnglerSurvey.com. MKS Supply Ends Relationship with Charter Arms

MKS Supply

DAYTON OHIO --(Ammoland.com)- MKS Supply announces that the

company will no longer be the exclusive marketer of the Charter Arms

product line effective October 19, 2010.

Charles Brown, President of MKS Supply said, “Charter Arms

and MKS Supply have had a mutually beneficial relationship

for the past five years and together we have successfully

brought a number of new revolvers to market.

Today we find our business philosophies are not aligned. thus

making an exclusive relationship no longer feasible. We still

have an inventory of Charter revolvers available to our

distributors while supplies last.”

MKS Supply is the marketer of Hi-Point Firearms and the company is

expanding its offering of Italian-made Chiappa firearms.

Brown continued, “We’re very excited about expanding our

Chiappa line—the company builds exceptionally high-quality

guns at very attractive prices. Chiappa has been

manufacturing firearms for over 50 years and their focus is

on authentic reproductions of classic historic and modern

firearms. MKS Supply will be carrying a range of Chiappa’s

modern firearm reproductions including the venerable model

1911 and the M4-22 Carbine semiautomatic rifle—both

chambered in .22 LR. It’s the best of both worlds, you can

own a classic design and enjoy hours of recreational shooting

using inexpensive .22 caliber ammo.”

Chiappa Revolutionary Rhino 357 Revolver

MKS is also the marketer for the Chiappa Rhino, one of the most

innovative new revolvers on the market today. The Rhino is available in a

2” barrel model and will soon be available in 4”, 5” and 6” models, all

chambered in .357 magnum caliber. The Rhino’s revolutionary design

truly redefines the revolver—so much so that it is featured on the cover of

this December’s Guns & Ammo magazine. All Chiappa products are

warranted and serviced in the USA at Chiappa’s service center in Dayton

Ohio.

Remington Arms Model 700Rifle Official Statement forCNBCOCT 20, 2010 04:46P.M.

Remington Arms Official Statement for CNBC Program

Regarding the Model 700 Rifle

CNBC reporter Scott Cohn appears to not know how to safely handle a

firearm.

Remington Arms Company

Madison, NC --(Ammoland.com)- For nearly fifty years, the

Remington Model 700 rifle has been the preferred choice for millions of

hunters, shooting sports enthusiasts and military and law enforcement

personnel.

Despite emotional reporting of baseless and unproven allegations and

plaintiff lawyer assertions, several undisputed facts remain:

• The Model 700 is the most popular, reliable, accurate and trusted

bolt-action rifle in the world, with over five million rifles produced

and billions of rounds fired over nearly five decades.

• The Model 700 is the firearm of choice for elite shooters from

America’s military and law enforcement communities, and has

been the platform for the United States Marine Corps and the U.S.

Army precision sniper weapon systems for over two decades, both

of which specifically require the “Walker” trigger mechanism.

• The Model 700, including its trigger mechanism, has been free of

any defect since it was first produced and, despite any careless

reporting to the contrary, the gun’s use by millions of Americans

has proven it to be a safe, trusted and reliable rifle.

• Both Remington and experts hired by plaintiff attorneys have

conducted testing on guns returned from the field which were

alleged to have fired without a trigger pull, and neither has ever

been able to duplicate such an event on guns which had been

properly maintained and which had not been altered after sale.

• Remington takes safety very seriously. We support hunter safety

and other educational programs nationwide, and include with

every Remington firearm, the “Ten Commandments of Firearm

Safety,” which urgently remind every gun owner that if proper

firearms safety rules are followed, no accidental injuries would ever

occur.

The men and women who build, own and shoot the Remington Model

700 take great pride in a product that, over the last half century, has set

the bar for safety, reliability and performance. read and see more at

Wolf Debate – Sportsman’s Groups Calling for Order

Sportsmen are not wolf-haters. Hunters in America pushed for laws to

regulate hunting. Ours is a history of self-restraint and respect for

wildlife.

Letters to the AmmoLand Editor: Got something on your mind? Let us

know and you can see it here.

Manasqaun, NJ --(Ammoland.com)- Many hunters are rightfully

angry that a federal judge has put the gray wolf back under federal

protection based on legal technicalities.

Taking management away from state authorities allows wolves to

multiply and spread.

Wolves are already so plentiful they are cutting down herds of elk,

moose, and deer, and are also killing livestock and pets. Wolves need to

be controlled and we must continue toward that goal in an orderly

fashion.

We sportsmen want to bring wolves under state management because

this will sustain wolves, control the problems that wolves cause, and

protect wolves from poachers. To do so, we look forward to working with

other affected citizens, government, and other allies to clear up the legal

technicalities and finalize the transfer to state management. This way

wolves will be managed the same way as other wildlife based on the best

available science with protections against illegal killing.

State management of wolves is best for the wolves and people, and wolf

populations are so large now that the time is past due.

State management will be the best deal wolves have ever had. Wolves

have never been managed sustainably in the lower 48 states. State and

federal governments purposefully eradicated wolves, and then restored

them under complete federal protection. This full protection has restored

wolf numbers far beyond recovery goals: all 6 states with gray wolves in

the lower 48 have at least doubled the number of wolves beyond their

recovery goals. Idaho is at least 8 times over its goal. There are about

3,000 wolves in Minnesota, 600 each in Wisconsin and Michigan, at

least 800 wolves in Idaho, 500 in Montana, and 300 in Wyoming.

Switching to state management will not be easy: federal and state

managers have tried it 3 times in the last 7 years, having each effort

struck down either because the law was fuzzy on how it could happen or

too strict about why it cannot. These interpretations in federal district

court are the latest examples of judges second-guessing government

experts – an error for which the next highest appeals court has

admonished its judges.

To achieve state management, hunters need to turn their anger into

passion, speak up, and ask for hard but fair commitments from state and

federal government. We need passion the way Theodore Roosevelt had

passion in creating American conservation, which is our legacy and

heritage to perpetuate. We need to stay in the arena of debate and

decision and stay out of the bogs of blame and bad-mouthing. It is self-

defeating to blame or antagonize federal and state officials. They agree

with us on what needs to happen and we need their help. We need hard

commitments from them to try new approaches within current law and,

ideally, to change law and policy to close loopholes.

This complex task is already underway through a cooperative

partnership between the state and federal governments. The Obama

Administration has already filed an appeal of the recent federal court

ruling. States have petitioned for greater management authority.

Legislators from Montana, Wyoming and Idaho have begun meeting to

devise a solution and have invited the federal government’s

participation. We appreciate these straight-up attempts that

demonstrate the resolve of our government. We acknowledge the

sovereign authority of each state to manage its own laws and budgets.

Finally, as we seek hard commitments from government, we

also need to draw a hard line for ourselves: we are sportsmen,

not wolf-haters.

Statements on the Internet about poaching wolves are an affront to the

American conservation ethic. Illegal killing is wrong, self-defeating, and

exactly opposite of how sportsmen created conservation and the

privilege of ethical hunting in the first place. Hunters in America fought

poachers and pushed for laws to regulate hunting. Later, sportsmen paid

fees and taxes on our own licenses and equipment to fund wildlife

restoration that brought wildlife back to abundance, including the game

we hunt. Ours is a history of self-restraint and respect for wildlife.

Today we are asking for wolves to be brought under modern state

management. We will pursue this goal with the diligence we take to

hunting itself, working professionally with the agencies, seeking allies,

and pushing forward the policies that will prevent this tragedy from

happening again with other wildlife.

was a Huge Success.

NASP World Tournament

2010 NASP World Tournament

Orlando , FL --(Ammoland.com)- Disney’s ® Mickey Mouse is a

popular draw! We believe the promise of Mickey’s presence at our 2010

tournament resulted in the largest turnout of winners at our awards

ceremony since inception of the NASP® tournaments in 2002.

There were at total of 64 team and individual award categories (more

than 300 medals, plaques, trophies, and banners) and youngsters were

present to accept 100% of them!

Competition at the 2010 NASP® World Tournament concluded at

12:17pm on Saturday, October 9th. More than 40,000 arrows were

launched at 10 and 15 meters by 902 student archers during the event.

While the Morrell targets performed wonderfully, a few were sorely

tested by students who persisted in shooting every arrow, one after

another squarely in the target’s middle! Total participation was 48%

higher than the first NASP® world tournament conducted in October

2009. While students in all of NASP®’s 4th-12th grade classes were in

attendance, 6th grade boys and girls comprised 24% of the total shooter

population. As is our co-gender norm, total participation was 40%

female and 60% male.

While NASP® world records remained unbroken at this tournament,

two team records were threatened. Winning the Elementary Division

with 3,240 of a possible 3,600 points was Chatsworth, Georgia’s

Woodlawn Elementary. Their score was only 47 points or 1.5% below the

world record set by Kentucky’s Trigg County Intermediate at the 2010

NASP® Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky. Kentucky’s Anderson County

Middle school repeated as the world champion with a total score of

3,351, only 27 points -less than 1% off the world record set by Ashville,

Alabama at the 2010 Nationals. The high school team award was earned

by archers from Irvington, Alabama’s Alma Bryant High with 3,343

points.

Crowned individual world champions at this year’s event were; Female

4th Grade-Megan Aldridge, Male 4thgrade-Cole Rautenberg, Female 5th

grade-Natalie Owens, Male 5th grade-Grayson Phillips, Female 6th

grade-Morgan Ray, Male 6th grade-Miles Wilson, Female Middle

School-Kayla Dowell, Male Middle School-Lucas Roy, Female High

School-Stephanie Whisenant, Male High School-Andrew Atkinson.

The overall highest score by a female at the tournament was an amazing

292 posted by Stephanie Whisenant from Ashville High School in

Ashville, Alabama. The top overall male score of 294 was posted by

middle schooler, Lucas Roy from Southern Middle School in Somerset,

KY. NASP®’s world record for both boy and girl archers is a tie at 298

out of a possible 300 points.

Each year one of the most hotly contested prizes is the eagle trophy,

‘Spirit Award’. This award is presented to the team who, in the opinion of

the 29 lane officials, exhibited great sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and

school spirit. Hayden Elementary from Indiana was the winner. Hayden

was given a run for its money by a Henderson, Kentucky team with a

very active ‘cow bell’! Hayden Elementary, located in Southern Indiana is

no stranger to winning this award. This eagle trophy will join the flock

Hayden is building back home in its trophy case!

Exhibiting at the world tournament were NASP® medal-level sponsors:

Morrell Targets, Easton Technical Products, the Army National Guard,

Field Logic, the National Wild Turkey Federation, and BCY.

As has always been our experience at this tournament Disney’s® staff

and volunteers were pleasant, professional, and extremely cooperative.

The tournament t-shirt and hat combinations made available by

Disney®, was extremely popular with many sizes selling out early in the

contest.

We were pleased once again to host many archers, coaches, teachers and

parents from Saskatchewan, Canada. These students are always a crowd

favorite because of their upbeat and friendly nature. For the first time

the tournament was joined by archers from South Africa and the top boy

and girl from New Zealand. The South African team linked up with the

Anderson County Kentucky team and coaches at hotels, pools, and

rumor has it for a few motorcycle try-outs! They got along so well the

Kentucky team has been invited to be guests on tour at South Africa’s

national NASP® tournament next April. What at treat this will be for

some of these Lawrenceburg, KY youngsters, some of which saw the

ocean for the first time at last year’s world tournament!

As promised Disney’s Mickey Mouse attended the awards ceremony. He

arrived to welcome the thousands of archers and their families. Mickey

returned for terrific pictures at the end. No matter the age of the person

who witnessed this special guest’s entrance - smiles were as broad on the

60-year old faces as they were on the 5-year olds.

As with any NASP® tournament, volunteers are always a critical need.

Thanks to Steve Robbins from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation

Commission, we were able to post one adult lane official for every 4

archers throughout this event. Nearly 40 volunteers including NASP®

board members, teachers, parents, Florida 4-H staff, archery club

members, National Bowhunter Education Foundation, and wildlife

agency personnel from Kentucky, Virginia, and Florida were on hand to

help the students.

Of course the big story behind the story is how these archers, their

teammates, and coaches were able to participate in the world

tournament. First of course the archers had to qualify for the world

tournament. To do this they had to qualify for their country’s national

tournament by participating in the state or provincial contest. Then they

had to participate in their country’s national tournament. Finally, they

had to raise money for travel. Some teams had to raise $30,000-40,000

to make it to the event. A variety of ingenious ways were invented to

raise the necessary funds. The common thread in nearly every case was

strong community support for the archery students to enjoy an exciting

and educational experience. As they grow older, very few of these world

participants will ever encounter anyone who has competed at a national

or world level.

The 2011 NASP World Tournament will be conducted at the Jostens

Center at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. The

tournament will be conducted on October 6, 7, & 8th. To view complete

tournament results visit our website at: http://www.nasparchery.com/ .

To volunteer at the 2011 NASP nationals or 2011 NASP world

tournament just drop us a note. Of course, our non-profit NASP

Foundation Inc. is always thrilled to add additional sponsors.

Help us bring archery to students everywhere! During this

school year more than 20,000 NASP-certified instructors are

expected to provide training for nearly 2 million young

people in more than 9,000 schools!

constitutionality of R.C. 9.68. R.C. 9.68 is the provision of Ohio law

generally referred to as Ohio’s preemption law, which was implemented

over Governor Taft’s veto of House Bill 347.

Trying to predict the outcome of a court case based upon oral argument

is pure folly, but listening to this argument does instill a sense of

optimism for Ohio’s gun owners.

The first thing to note about this case is that it was brought by the City of

Cleveland against the State of Ohio. As we noted throughout the debate

on HB347, one critical component of the new law is that it shifted the

burden back where it belonged – on the cities. If a city wants to have

firearm laws, the city now bears the expense and risk of advancing such

laws. So from that viewpoint, the simple fact that Cleveland sued the

State of Ohio, versus a gun owner or pro-gun group taking Cleveland to

court, is a victory for gun owners.

I have said in the past that a layperson observing a court case is kind of

like an American watching a Cricket match. Different people are playing

different roles, there appears to be rules and score keeping, but danged if

we can figure the game out. It really takes an insider to understand and

appreciate the game.

Cleveland’s case presents a pretty straightforward question –

is R.C. 9.68 constitutional?

From there, the issues become convoluted and contrary to what an

ordinary person considers logical. In an attempt to provide a roadmap to

our supporters, the following simple, generalized summary should be

helpful.

First, Ohio does not have a provision for ” preemption” of local laws.

Cities have the ability to pass whatever criminal laws strike their fancy.

The Ohio General Assembly may not pass a law that says ” cities may not

regulate x, y and z.” Instead, Ohio has a conflict of law analysis. Cities

may not prohibit that which the state has specifically allowed, and cities

may not try to allow that which the state has specifically prohibited.

During the debate on HB347, the Ohio Supreme Court decided the

Baskin case, upholding Cincinnati’s ” assault weapons” ban. As we noted

at the time, the decision was expected and was correct based upon

current law; current law that would be changed by HB347.

Since Ohio has no preemption provision, the approach that was required

was to have the state specifically allow the complete exercise of firearm

rights, unless the exercise was specifically prohibited by state or federal

law. This approach was taken because constitutions are not self-

implementing. Specific legislation is required to implement affirmative

rights; otherwise, the individual is forever stuck challenging laws that

prohibit the exercise of rights.

Cleveland has taken the position that Ohio cannot guarantee broad

exercise of constitutional rights. Instead, what is required is a micro-

management of each element of the exercise of the right. This argument

is nonsense on stilts. Cleveland’s argument, by analogy, is that there is

no freedom of speech unless the state regulates exactly when, where and

how a person speaks and criminally punishes anyone who does not speak

according to these regulations.

It is extremely illustrative of Cleveland’s attitude towards their citizens

that Cleveland feels that the only role government may play is restricting

freedoms, rather than broadly guaranteeing freedoms.

Benjamin C. Mizer (Ben) is Attorney General Richard Cordray’s solicitor

general, the person who argues cases on behalf of the State of Ohio.

Attorney General Cordray has vibrantly defended this case since it was

filed, and Mr. Mizer did an outstanding job of defending R.C. 9.68. The

justices had relatively few questions for Mr. Mizer. The same is not true

of Gary Singletary, Cleveland’s assistant law director.

Regrettably, I was unable to attend the oral argument in person due to

family commitments. At about 14:20, Justice Stratton asks about states

granting rights, versus merely prohibiting conduct that is offensive.

Again at 24 minutes into the argument, Justice Cupp pins down Mr.

Singletary on the issue about governments only passing negative

regulation (i.e. prohibiting conduct) versus affirmative regulation (i.e.

allowing conduct.) At that point Mr. Singletary concedes that

governments may pass affirmative regulation. In my opinion, this is the

point where the case is decided in favor of gun owners. Around 18:40

Justice Pfeifer asks about Cleveland amending their laws in response to

state law changes, and Mr. Singletary conceded that Cleveland has made

no attempt to bring their local ordinances into compliance with Ohio’s

concealed carry laws, much less any other area of firearm laws. He also

conceded that Cleveland will be back in court over these same laws, even

if Cleveland loses this current case.

This question is followed up by justice Cupp at 26 minutes (roughly) by

asking why the state should have to affirmatively regulate by micro-

management versus just saying that all exercise of a right is allowed

unless specifically prohibited. In essence, why should the state have to

say ” you may carry a firearm on the sidewalk, on the street, in the

park, in the grocery etc. etc. ad nauseum” versus just saying ” unless we

have specifically rohibited it, it is affirmatively allowed.”

This is the reason that Buckeye Firearms Association has a case filed and

waiting over every single Cleveland gun control law. Cleveland is not

going to go away quietly, so we are ready to move forward one minute

after the Ohio Supreme Court upholds the constitutionality of R.C. 9.68.

Cleveland is going to claim that they may require handgun registration

because Ohio has not specifically said ” you may own a handgun

without registration.” Instead, Ohio has said you can own any firearm

unless state or federally law specifically says you may not. Yes, I roll my

eyes at that argument, also.

At 1:30 and again at 28 minutes into the argument, Justice Lanzinger

(up for election this year) asks Mr. Singletary about the precedent from

the Clyde case, and hasn’t this issue already been decided? Justice

Lanzinger has made it pretty clear with this question that she feels that

the Clyde case is settled law which she and the court must follow, even

though she voted in the dissent in the Clyde case. Justice O’Connor

(running for Chief Justice this year against current Chief Justice

appointee Eric Brown, who asked questions that were generally hostile

to gun owners during the argument) follows this up at minute 36 with

questions that make it pretty clear that she also feels that the issue was

already decided years ago. Justice O’Connor’s point is that if Cleveland

feels that there isn’t enough gun control, then their relief lies in asking

the General Assembly to pass more gun control, and not in ignoring valid

state law.

Again, there is no way to predict an outcome by listening to an argument,

but it appears generally that gun owners should be optimistic of a

positive outcome, perhaps even by a vote of 6-1 this time.

Ken Hanson is a gun rights attorney in Ohio. He serves as the Legislative

Chair for Buckeye Firearms Association, and is the attorney of record for

Buckeye Firearms Foundation, which filed friend-of-the-court briefs in

the Heller and McDonald Supreme Court cases. The National Rifle

Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) has awarded

him with its 2008 Defender of Justice Award and 2009 Jay M. Littlefield

Volunteer of the Year Award. He is the author of The Ohio Guide to

Firearm Laws, a certified firearms instructor and holds a Type 01 Federal

Firearms License.

Health (NIOSH), a division of the Centers for Disease Control and

Prevention (CDC), recently recommended Hygenall (www.hygenall.com)

products for use after firing weapons.

The announcement comes just a few weeks before the CDC’s National

Lead Poisoning Prevention Week October 24 – 30, 2010. Hygenall

makes several products to help solve the Lead problem and clean off dirt

and germs: Hygenall FieldWipes are a non-rinse wipe that

decontaminates where rinse water is not available; Hygenall FieldWash

is a hand and body wash; Hygenall FieldLaundry a laundry detergent for

removing Lead from clothes, and Hygenall ToxOff is a general purpose

and Lead decontamination surface cleaner for floors, tables, tools and

equipment.

“The CDC recommendation for Hygenall products will help

bring to light the serious threat of microscopic quantities of

Lead on the firing range and improve safety for both gun

enthusiasts and workers,” said Michael McKinnon, CEO of

Hygenall Corporation.

Lead particles, so small that they are nearly invisible, stick to skin and

surfaces through an electrical bond that is difficult to disrupt. Soaps,

wipes and gels, including specialty and industrial products that claim to

remove Lead are not as effective because they are based on chemicals

that are good for removing dirt but not for breaking the electromagnetic

bond that makes Lead stick to skin and surfaces. The patented

technology in Hygenall products is designed specifically to safely disrupt

the Lead bond, and has shown to be highly effective even at microgram

levels.

Hygenall Field brand products were developed specifically for firearms

users and military personnel to remove microscopic quantities of Lead

and other heavy metals such as Antimony, Hexavalent Chromium,

Depleted Uranium Oxide, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic, and others that

accumulate on skin and surfaces.

“Using science that targets the removal of Lead will keep

firearms users safer,” said Dr. Michael Baran, PhD., retired

Air Force Colonel. “Firing range workers, firing range users,

government, and military personnel in battlefield and

training environments can experience more exposure to

dangerous quantities of Lead dust than workers in the Lead

industry.”

According to NIOSH, firing a handgun can deposit over 1,000

micrograms of Lead on the skin with each firing, which if ingested, can

cause high Blood Lead Levels that can affect health in a variety of ways,

including lowering I.Q. through cognitive problems, organ failure, and

other diseases associated with chronic Lead exposure.

“The body treats Lead as if it were calcium, which is used to

create nerve, brain, and bone tissue,” said Michael

McKinnon, CEO of Hygenall Corporation, “The trouble starts

when the body uses Lead as building blocks instead of actual

calcium.”

Hygenall products are available through Galls, an ARAMARK Company

and supplier of military and police equipment and supplies, ArgenTech

Solutions, Emerging Technology Specialists, and IMMI, a minority

woman owned, SBA 8(a), SBA SDB Certified, GNEMSDC Certified, and

SWMWBA Certified government products supplier.

About Hygenall Corporation

Since Bloomberg Business Week featured Hygenall as one of “America’s

Most Promising Start-ups” in 2009, Hygenall has worked hard to

United States Army Marksmanship Unit

FORT BENNING, Ga. --(Ammoland.com)- More than 300 Soldiers,

civilians and Family members, past and present, of the U.S. Army

Marksmanship Unit gathered together to celebrate the USAMU’s 54th

birthday Oct. 14-16.

The Military Marksmanship Association, the alumni association of the

USAMU, hosted the reunion to afford past members of the unique unit

time to reminisce with fellow former shooters and gunsmiths, as well as

meet the current USAMU Soldiers and personnel.

The USAMU is the only unit of its kind in the Army. Home to 23 Olympic

medalists, more than 40 World Champions, and the most competent

gunsmiths in the world, the USAMU enhances the Army’s recruiting

effort, raises the standard of the Army’s marksmanship proficiency, and

supports the Army’s small arms research and development initiatives in

order to raise the Army’s overall combat readiness.

USAMU commander Lt. Col. Daniel Hodne presided over the 2010 Hall

of Fame induction ceremony Oct. 16. Sgt. Maj (Ret.) Thomas Fuller was

the guest speaker and presented the new inductees with their medals and

plaques. Inducted were: Lt. Col. (Ret.) Boyd Goldsby; Master Sgt. (Ret.)

William O. Harden; and Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Laurence “Red” Mosely.

“What is truly unique about the USAMU Hall-of-Fame

distinction is it is an award given by the voting of every

member of the MMA,” Fuller remarked. “Every man and

woman in this unit is one of the best shooters on the planet.

Their toughest competition is from the other Soldiers in the

unit. So when these men and women select among

themselves those to honor, you better believe that they are

deserving of it.”

The three newly-elected members collectively served more than 120

years in the Army as Soldiers and civilians, and represent 85 years of

service to the USAMU, Fuller said.

“I am so lucky to have served with this great unit for most of

my military and civilian career,” said Mosely. “I have been

awed by (past Soldiers’) performance and am still awed by

what I see from the new shooters and young shooters.”

The Hall-of-Fame ceremony was the highlight of the weekend, but other

fun and festivities were had by all. Former team members got acquainted

with Soldiers currently serving in the unit at team dinners on Thursday.

It wouldn’t be the USAMU without some good old fashioned

competition, so a round-robin rifle, pistol and shotgun match was held

during the day Friday.

Staff Sgt. Armando Ayala, a current member of the service rifle team,

was elected to the Running Target team Hall-of-Fame for his years as a

member of the now-defunct Olympic-sport team.

“The lineage of greatness this unit has produced is a

testament to everyone here,” Fuller concluded. “That is a

privilege of belonging to something greater than yourself.”
