As a tiring week came to an end, this Friday night saw me heading out for a quite dinner. My mother is a fabulous

chef and it’s been a childhood ritual to discover culinary delights under her able guidance. Amour Bistro, nestled in

MalchaMarg’s posh and discreet market, had been much raved about and this is where we decided to head.

As soon as we were ushered into this cozy European café, we knew we had not erred in our judgment. With dim

whimsical lighting, warm wooden interiors, mismatched tables and chairs, wine bottles lined against the wall, a faux

wrought iron musical band perched on a balcony overlooking the seating area, Amour is a bistro straight out of the

crowded alleys of Rome. All in all, they’ve got it perfect to the ‘t’ as far as the ambiance is concerned and all you

need is a glass of wine to entirely forget which part of the world you are in. At some point during our meal Kay Sera

Sera drifted through the room bringing the warmest smile to our lips.

The staff is courteous, attentive and polite, arranging seating for us on the table of our choice even though it was

clearly a busy night for the restaurant. Given that the bistro only seats about 30 people, you never have to look

around for more than a few seconds before a waiter appears at your side. Instead of an appetizer, we decided to

order the Fresh Market Greens and Feta Salad with Smoked Chicken. Our salad was served swiftly giving us just

enough time to polish off their freshly baked bread which was right on point being soft, warm and lightly herbed. The

salad had a generous helping a feta crumbled over it, the smoked chicken was succulent, the veggies were

crunchy, fresh, colorful and juicy. It was served witha mango vinaigrette dressing which give it the perfect zing of

flavor making the salad an excellent choice for those trying to stick to a diet.

Fortunately I’m not one of those folks, and the salad only served to tease my appetite, as should be the case. For

our mains we had ordered the Marjoram Spring Roast Chicken and their Tortellini. The roast chicken was served as

fillets layered one atop the other with marjoram butter ricotta making for a fine base. Adding flavor to the dish was

the potato roesti and peppers gratinee. For peeps like me who will probably Google all the food jargon you just got

hit with, it’s a dish withfillets of chicken (of course they didn’t skin off the fat!) roasted with a generous coating of

butter, a crumbly cheesy base, some deep fried potato shavings and roasted lightly caramelized peppers. As you

can now tell, it was a safe bet to order and they got every element spot on. The Tortellini was stuffed with feta and

spinach, served with garden salad leaves and parmesan cheese shavings on the side. It had the nice rich velvety

yet light feel on the palette typical to authentic Italian cuisine, and I would say it did not disappoint.

For dessert, we ordered the in house specialty, Micro Minute Amaretto cake served with Irish custard. I tried one of

these for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a warm and dry almond cake doused in Irish custard

whichhas the effect of moistening the cake without letting it lose its characteristic granular texture. This is definitely a

great break from the usual cheesy/chocolaty desert routine and a must-have for those in the mood to experiment.

Their much-raved tiramisu turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. It was a tad too dry, heavy almost to the point

of coming off as stale and the flavor of coffee overpowered the other elements in the desert. You can give this one

a miss!

On my way out, I turned around for one last look and realized that this could perhaps be the perfect place for a

romantic date. While some of us have been high and dry when it comes to love, you should definitely head there

with a special someone and let Amour help you fall in love one bite at a time!
