Well done Chloe & Alex- We are thrilled. They have settled in at home in Welcome Bay, about 5 minutes down the road.. Baby is feeding well. He has recently got a new job working at Bidvest, a food distributor in Tauranga. Bianca has moved down from Auckland and is living with her sister Chloe and helping out with housework and babies. She is currently looking for work. Seth is now onto his third teacher for the year at Tauranga Intermediate School. WEDNESDAY TH AUGUST HASTINGS GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL

We addresses several classes of students numberingover 100. Speaking in a classroom dynamic is alwaysincredibly powerful. Being in a smaller venue createsan intimate setting where the girls can feel free to

engage with the speaker without the distractionswhich a large hall often brings. [See enclosedfeedback at end of newsletter]

WEDNESDAY NIGHT TH AUGUST LINDISFARNE COLLEGE

We had the privilege of addressing approximately 260boys from Lindisfarne College with the Amped4Lifemessage. The college have a lovely performing artsvenue which creates warmth and ease of delivery and

the seating is tiered so all the students get a bird’s eyeview on a massive screen we project onto.

Lindisfarne College is a Year 7-13 integratedboys’ school, founded under the auspices of thePresbyterian Church. It is situated in the city ofHastings, in the province of Hawke’s Bay, NewZealand. It caters for both boarders and dayboys.Of the roll of 500 students, half are full or weeklyboarders for whom the College is both their place ofresidence and their learning. I had the privilege ofspending time with my friend Glen Petersen [teacher& director of boarding] and his wife Cherie and theirkids Ashleigh & Andre who have hosted me over thepast few years. I have enjoyed an ongoing relationshipwith this awesome family. Thanks for the hospitality.Always love coming to hang with the fam.

THURSDAY ST AUGUSTTE ARATIKA DRILLING INDUSTRY

PRESENTATIONS

A massive thanks to Te Aratika Drilling krew, RonnieRochel and whanau who helped sponsor Amped4Life& support me to bring our message to the HB. The

whole week was a drive to push for a platform forchange within our own lives, our whanau and ourcommunities. The week wouldn’t have had theimpact we saw, had it not been for the commitmentand generosity of Te Aratika Drilling and the localcommunity. We presented a seminar rstly to localbusinesses in the area and then Ronnie organisedfor her T.A.D boys to come to our afternoon meetingwhich was extremely raw and confronting. Thereception I got was amazing and I was deeply touched

by a haka that the boys gave at the end our address.Kia Ora-Kia Kaha to all involved. We will be back.

SATURDAY ST AUGUST COMMUNITY EVENTS X

On Saturday, Darryl, Casey and all the Te AratikaDrilling krew, headed up by Ronnie Rochel organisedan outdoor event in two Hawkes Bay locations-Flaxmere and Maraenui which aimed to promote a

platform for change & to take a stance against druguse within the community and in families. A largetruck was organised complete with talented peoplefeaturing a live band, a well-known local rap artist, and some cultural performances. I was also askedto speak to several large crowds about the insidiousand destructive effects of substance use and abuse. Our aim was to connect the community with localresources who have an ongoing relationship withinthese communities to build a bridge for ongoing

collaboration. They can journey with individuals andfamilies that have been impacted by addiction anddrugs. A bbq was running at full capacity, lots ofpeople came out to experience a great day and manywere encouraged and challenged by the message thatwas given.

Two parents told me that the presentationstimulated great conversations at home aroundpositive choices and how your actions affectothers... the boys engaged really well and Patshared his story with great honesty and integrity

It was a pleasure to host Pat Buckley and hisAMPED4LIFE presentation to our senior school.Pat captured and held the attention of the nearly600 senior boys. While simply done, the variousthemes Pat explored were understood by, and veryrelevant and important for, our boys. The pacing of the presentation was excellent andthe use of humour enhanced the presentation,as did the excellent visuals projected on the “bigscreen”. Pat’s personal integrity and honestyshone throughout and his ability to pepper hispoints with personal stories and real life vignettesincreased the impact of the presentation.I am grateful to Pat for being available to our boysand wish him every success as he continues totour AMPED 4 LIFE and to challenge young menand women to think about various aspects of theirlives.ROB SILVER COUNSELLOR NAPIER BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

I think the whole reality of it is what I learnt themost. The part that affected me the most wasmore the fact that Pat had been there before andknew all the stuff that goes on and we weren’tgetting lectured, it was more him telling whatit was really like, the real stories. I’d just like to

thank you Pat Buckley for sharing your life storieswith us it really made me realize what actually goeson in that kind of world. Thanks your presentationwas really affectiveSTUDENT NAPIER BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

We must have drug talks about 3 or 4 times ayear and we thought nothing of them, but thisone reached me it was the only one that has everaffected me in any way. I have learnt heaps. Over allthe whole presentation was affective.CALLUM STUDENT NAPIER BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

I learnt life has ripple effects of the choices we makeearlier in life & throughout our lives, good and bad.

Not to believe drug curiosity is worth exploring.Good on you Pat! For giving others refreshing adviceand for being so positive about your words. Whenyou believe it others will too.STUDENT OTUMOETAI COLLEGE

I could also relate to it in a different way againbecause my dad works in a pharmacy and there wasan armed robbery by someone who was hooked andit went terribly wrong for that guy who tried to stealthe drugs.(Thank you for the excellent presentation. Rox!)STUDENT HASTINGS GIRLS COLLEGE

Feedback from Teachers and Students

The man’s passion really came through. You canclearly see he is genuine about his wanting to helpand his love for his children is evident. If I knewnothing about the topics I would be well informed atthe end.Well presented. Good luck with the future Pat.**** STUDENT WAIHI HIGH SCHOOL

My name is Kate Davis and I am the Public HealthNurse at Napier Boys High School. Last week Iattended a presentation given by Pat Buckley, LifeSkills Educator, for Amped 4 Life. Pat presentedto the Year 11, 12 and 13 boys and the feedback I

received from both parents and pupils was verypositive. Two parents told me that the presentationstimulated great conversations at home aroundpositive choices and how your actions affect others. The feedback from the year 12 boys included: Patwas credible and informative, showed many learningcurves, the SOS and ICE information was greatand really good. I thought there was huge valuein presenting to the senior year groups, the boysengaged really well and Pat shared his story withgreat honesty and integrity. I would recommend thispresentation to all senior studentsKATE DAVIS, PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE TEACHER PAKURANGACOLLEGE

I totally agree with everything Pat said, andthe thing that stood out the most to me is thatdrugs cause pain, break ups and life threateningexperiences which aren’t good. I relate to thethings weed does to you. I have experienced whatit does to you that is why I quit. He really stressedthat it was really bad.STUDENT NAPIER BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

I learnt not to do drugs. If your friends do it, itdoesn’t mean you have to. It’s impacted me tostand up for myself. I could relate to the partabout looking out for your friends and making

sure your life and circle of friends doesn’t turninto people you cannot rely on, because I havebeen in this situation.STUDENT HASTINGS GIRLS COLLEGE

I learnt that drugs are a big thing in otherpeople’s life and that you don’t gain anythingfrom them, you lose things. It impacted me alot because my dad left when I was young andI have been trying to work or how I am dealing

with my pain. I don’t drink because my dad didthat. It opened my eyes. I learnt, don’t give intopeer pressure and pick your friends wisely. Thateverything in life has a consequence. When tosay no and not give into what others are doingbecause life is about what you do and yourmistakes.STUDENT KATIKATI COLLEGE

Pat-I realized how much friends can inuenceyour life. (Especially in a negative way) It mademe even more determined not to go down thebad path. I was affected by the whole seminar Ifelt the seminar was affective as I am surroundedby many of the situations that were discussed.STUDENT MT ALBERT GRAMMAR SCHOOL

I learnt the value of life, the choices we makeand how the consequences from some of thesechoices. The part that affected me the most washis personal story. Gave us an in depth look intothe harsh reality of drugs. Yeah. Cheers bro, good

speech. Thanks.STUDENT LINDISFANE COLLEGE

Pat and Amped4Life play an important roleand make a valuable contribution towardsour responsibility to prepare our students forlife. Their presence and support help studentswhen they are susceptible to inuence fromtheir peers and can be known to make hastydecisions without considering the consequences.

His message helps put things in perspectiveand reinforces the idea that there will beconsequences to their decisions.Pat is one of the speakers that studentsbelieve makes a difference. They were engagedthroughout his presentation and felt empowered

My dad has told me basically the samethings but I usually shrug it away saying Iwas taught to learn for myself but whenPat spoke I realized what a mistake mystupidity could lead me to and I respect

my dad more for loving me and trying toprotect me.STUDENT NAPIER BOYS HIGH SCHOOL

Well folks, that’s about allour news for now. We willbe back to you before theend of the year with a shortChristmas message.

“At the end of the day, it’s notabout what you have or evenwhat you’ve accomplished. It’sabout what you’ve done with thoseaccomplishments. It’s about who
