I must be crazy running & walking in the hot sun

Page 06 OPINION

By Ahmet Abdulaziz....

I admit I am a crazy person. Mylife is filled with my crazyadventures. In different phases andtimes of my life, I put myself intoadventures, sometimes makingsome temporary and sometimespermanent impacts on my life.

On many occasions, people havecalled me a "crazy person". Attimes looking back, and re-winding the film of my life, Icome across some events, aboutwhich make me start thinking if Iam really a crazy person.

This Sunday was also one suchday when I acted crazily.

My love for walking and runningis well known. However, for quitea long period of time, I have notbeen able to continuerunning/walking the way that Ihad been in the past. I am runningand walking, but not in the way Ishould be. Intermittent gaps ofdays and weeks have taken thereal interest away. There are somany new things that have enteredmy life during the last 4 years, thatmy love for running and walkinghas faded into the background. YetI always think that one day I willregain my lost form, and will dosomething really big in the field ofrunning and walking.

The COVID-19 period put mefurther under stress. During the

lockdown period, my run or walkwas even less than previously. Itrather put me under some sort ofdepression. Prior to the start of thelockdown in March, I had startedrunning five or ten kilometres forsome days, late at night. But once Istopped, I felt really bad. It wasindeed very depressing to findmyself not doing what I reallywanted to.

With all this background, I wantedto find a way to regain my previousform, once the lockdown ended. However, due to many reasons, most of them due to my pessimisticstate of mind, I could not managemy time to re-start running. Themost that I could do was 2 or 5 kmwalk only. That also was at nighttime only.

I was always cursing myself forbeing pessimistic and wanted me tocome out of my state of depression.

Doing something really crazy is myone way of beating depression.

This Sunday (28th June 2020) wasthe day when I did something crazy. With no planning in advance, Idecided to go out for a 36 kilometrerun/walk in the morning. So I setoff, at about 6.30 am from my homein Lefkoşa, heading towardsBalikesir, which is near Ercanairport, about 18 km from Lefkoşa(Nicosia). Though I had mentionedit to my wife the previous night, ofcourse, she had not taken itseriously, although she had askedme not to do it, since it was going tobe very hot the next day.

However, nothing could change mymind, as my craziness had takenover.

I started walking quickly, in thebeginning, since of course, I did notwant to put myself under pressureby starting off running. It was a hotmorning. In a short period of time,as always I was feeling pain in mylegs, and I was feeling uneasy. Asalways I experience this state ofmind, during the first fewkilometres. This state of minddiffers from time to time. At times Ithink of returning back home.Sometimes this condition also

persists until ten kilometres or so.

The same happened this time. Badlyout of shape I kept on struggling tomove on. Kilometres kept passingby, but my state of mind did notchange. I knew that it was indeednot at all easy to continue whenbadly out of form, but I had tocontinue. The weather was indeedhot, though it was early in themorning. After about ten kilometreswalk, I found myself fit enough tostart short bursts of slow runningtoo. The sun was rising and heatincreasing, yet I continued withouttaking any rest.

However, I had realised that itwould be too hot in the next fewhours. The crazy man inside mewas not listening to what my mindwas thinking. After a fewkilometres more distance, I returnedback to walking, not runninganymore. By the time I finished thefirst phase of my run/walk, theweather had become really very hot.

I reached Balikesir at about 9,30am. I was tired. I had run/walkedfor about 18 kilometres non-stop. Ihad felt I was regaining my lostconfidence.

Regained confidence was onepositive development, but thereality on the ground was toodifficult to cope with. I took anhours rest at Balikesir and re-startedmy walk back to Lefkoşa (Nicosia).I had eaten my food and had water.I had realised that it would not bean easy walk back home. On myway back eastward, the sun was onmy back. The heat was indeedintense. I took the first rest at a busstop, after the first 5 kilometres.

continued .... I must be crazy running & walkingrelaxing there, under the tree, which was like heaven to me atthat time, but I could see the longlong road in front of me, waitingfor me. I had to stand up andcontinue walking.

With renewed courage, I startedoff walking with a little betterpace. I scheduled to wait for oneminute under every second tree. Icontinued like that for a couple ofmore kilometres. The new systemhad slightly taken my mind awayfrom the heat. I had startedcounting the trees. I had startedguessing the distance between twotrees.

But still, I was feeling very tired, due to the heat. My back wasburning under the sun. I wasnearing the Haspolat roundaboutwhen my telephone rang. Thebrightness of the sun was sointense that I could not even seeanything on the screen of thephone. I took off my dark glasses,

to read the name on the screen bysimply guessing, it was my wife. She asked my whereabouts, and Itold her where I was. She told methat my son was going out and hecould pick me up.

Indeed she knew that a crazyperson like me would not accepther offer, yet she had phoned me.But my brain told me that mycraziness would be harmful if I didnot agree to her offer.

It was one that rare moment whenI accepted what my brain wastelling me. I decided to leave mycraziness behind and conveyed my

Page 07

Back on the road, I felt that theheat was terrible, so I found apiece of hard packing card, and putit inside my cap so that therewould be two layers to save myhead from the heat, but my backwas burning. I was wearing mydark glasses, yet the brightness ofthe road was still passing throughit. However, there was no otheroption available but to keep going.

Although tired and slow, I wascontinually moving ahead. I hadstarted putting up small goals formyself. I had started telling myselfto rest under the next tree. So I hadmade my spirits high bycontinuing extending my goalfurther to the next tree, withoutresting at all. But my speed hadgone very slow.

A few more kilometres and Idecided to take a long rest under atree. The heat was really terrible. Isat under the tree for about fifteenminutes. I wanted to continue

willingness to be picked up by ourson.

He came within the next fiveminutes, as he was already in thearea. He picked me up and Ireached home safely.

My adventure of running/walking adistance of 36 kilometres, endedafter 25 kilometres.

KAR - News Update

ANIMAL WELFARE

26th JuneA very big THANK YOU to the lovely lady who is fostering these 2girls. Without her offer to help they would have been at real riskfrom speeding cars and nasty people. She has helped us to help them- and save them.

These 2 girls were dumped in Catalkoy - on a notorious speedingroad. When we first found them we couldn't touch them as they weretoo scared but in just 1 week they now love being with people. Theyare good car travellers and are friendly, funny and very loving.

They are now safely in a foster home until space can be made at theKAR Rescue Centre and have been aptly named Star and Blue. However it would be much better for them if they can find their new"furever" home before they have to go to up to the Centre.

They are approx 4 months old - have been blood tested so we knowthat there are no underlying bugs/parasites etc. They have had their1st vaccination and have been given flea/worm treatment. They willhave their 2nd vaccination (KAR will cover that too) in 3 weeks.KAR will arrange for them to be spayed once they are old enough.

Please if anyone can offer them home please contact the KAR officeon 0533 8694098 or email [email protected]

Let’s see if we can find them a home of their own. Please share.

29th JunePOISON - WARNING – POISON

Near Teo's Restauarant/Bar in Lapta. There is NO suggestion at all that thiswas/is connected to the restaurant/bar - they are named purely so that ownersknow/are aware of the area affected - which we do, if possible, on Poison cases- so owners are clear of the specific area.

In the last 24 hours 2 cats and 1 dog have died as a result of being poisoned. We do not know what type of poison but PLEASE PLEASE be careful - keepyour furry friends safe.

We have been given 2 feeding tubes - if you would like themand are able to keep them topped up/maintained to help thestreet animals in your area please contact us [email protected]

KAR - News Update

Our office received a phone call from a distressed man about a small kittenthat he had seen in a car park in Lapta. He said that the kitten was very weakand looked poorly and that he was also worried that it would get hit by a car.He had no transport, nowhere to keep the kitten and couldn't afford, or take, the kitten to the vet.We asked one of our volunteers who lived in the area if there was any waythat she could help as our Community Warden was busy working up at thecentre due to staff shortages.

Beryl agreed to go to the car park to see if she could help. Once there shefound the scrappy little ginger kitten, who looked very sad and poorly. OffBeryl and kitty went to the vet in Alsancak. He was diagnosed with cat flu

27th JunePOSTED ON BEHALF OF A THIRDPARTY

"Our cat Melis is missing or stolen. She hasn’t been home for the past 3 days. Sheknows her name, she’s very loving andaffectionate"

She has gone missing from Catalkoy and onlygave birth to a litter of kittens a month ago.

If found or seen please contact 0548 8580051.

Where is our collection box ? It was sited in TheRound Tower in Kyrenia but has, we are told, been"lost"!! Similar to the one in the photo. We rely on the generosity of people putting loosechange into our boxes and during these very hardtimes we need all of the money (big or small) thatwe can get. To have a box "missing in action"means that it is yet another reduction in ourincome. Less money to help the animals in ourcare. So if ANYONE knows where our missingbox is please could they let us know - theinformation will be treated in strictest confidence. Please call us on 0533 869 4098 or email us [email protected]

Misha is one of our Golden Oldies. She came to uswhen she was approx 5 weeks old - way back in2008!! She is very active for her age and wouldLOVE her own Special Sponsor during her twilightyears.

If you can be that "Special" person please contactus at [email protected]

(and needed vitamins) and needed treatment. Beryl decided that she would take him home and care for him until he could go up to the centre. She has had to take him back to the vets for follow on checks and further treatment.

We called Beryl to say that we had managed to free up some space for the kitty and so she could bring him to the office to then go up to thecentre. A short while later Beryl rang us back to say that her hubby was upset about the scrappy little kitty going up to the centre - he knew hewould be well cared for but he was only a little scrappy kitty. They had decided to keep him .... YAY.

He is now named Little Basil after Beryl's father-in-law and it seems that he is perfectly colour co-ordinated to match the furniture.Happy Days Little Basil x

I sometimes feel that I am really fedup. Fed up with the way that we areliving. Fed up with the way our daysand nights are passing. Fed up withthe way the whole world is being runnow. I am fed up with the television, the radio, the newspapers, themagazines.

Of course, I am fed up with theinternet, with Facebook, Messenger,Twitter, Instagram, what's app, and allother social forums. I am fed up withchatting, mailing, exchange of filesand photos, and videos.

Yes, I am fed up with seeing andwatching the same videos beingshared everywhere. I am fed up withseeing the same photos on varioussites on the internet, sharedrepeatedly. I am fed up with readingthe senseless arguments that peoplewrite under each of these.

I am fed up with going through thefake news, photoshopped photos, andaltered videos.

On the other side, I am also fed upwith the unending wars in the world.Wars which are continuing, shiftingfrom one place to another of thisglobe. Wars which mean the killing ofhuman beings, both soldiers andcivilians, just to get some political andmaterial gains.

I am fed up with hunger. Every daywe see people, mostly children, dyingof hunger or malnutrition. They diejust because someone else is eatingtheir share of food. I am fed up withthe way natural resources have beendistributed. I am fed up with theunjust distribution of natural wealth.

I am fed up with the issue of racism. The blacks, the whites, the brown, theyellow. I am fed up with peoplejudging and behaving on the basis ofthe colour of their skin. I am fed upwith the laws which are against racismon paper only but fail to changehuman behaviour.

I am fed up with the dividing ofpeople on the basis of their religiousor other beliefs.

I am fed up with the educationalsystems which in general aim toprovide a working force to theproduction units, and not to develop agood human being.

I am fed up with the health systems inwhich some people get the bestpossible facilities whereas others donot get any medical attention at all. Iam fed up with “a patient cured is acustomer lost” mentality.

I am fed up with the way we all runafter money, due to which we no morecare about our health.

I am fed with the system where oneworks for the whole of his life, to buy

a house, a car, to pay the rent, bills, and for the education of the children. All this puts us under extremepressure which leads to various healthproblems for us. I am fed up with thesystem where we forget ourselves, justto pay our bills.

I am fed up with the internationalboundaries, the visas and otherformalities, which bar people frommoving freely from one place toanother on this globe.

I am cutting this article short because Iknow you are now fed up readingthis. So if you are really fed up, itmeans you are with me.Thanks for reading.

Yes, I am Fed Up!

Readers Mail ....From Laurence Floyd ....

Hi everyone

The surreal situation continues ....sadly due to 'social distancing'implications at the GirneAmphitheatre in September, wehave been advised that only amaximum of 1000 people canattend any event being held there.

This means that we have agreedwith Abba Platinum that the eventwould not be viable, and as suchwe have postponed to a target dateof June 23rd 2021.

This is sad for Tulips who are indire need of funds to support

provision of treatments for cancersufferers.

However, the good news is that wehave moved the Luther VandrossSupper Club event to Tuesday13th October. The event will be

ABBA Platinum event postponed until June 2021

limited in numbers as will need tobe inside due to date, but I am surewe can still raise some muchneeded funds for Tulips and have asuper night out. Full details tofollow.

Finally our best wishes to all ofyou going through quarantine ...you are in our thoughts.

Best regardsLaurence

Pointing out that there are twocommunities in Cyprus, Akıncıreminded Borrell that in the past hemet many times with formerPresident of the EuropeanCommission Jean-Claude Juncker, former President of the EuropeanParliament Martin Schulz, formerPresident of the European CouncilDonald Tusk and the predecessor

Borrell expressed his regret for notmeeting with Akıncı and said thathe will have a meeting with him atthe first opportunity. Mentioningthe issue of hydrocarbon resourcesin the Eastern Mediterranean,Akıncı stressed that one of thesides involved in the issue ofresources is the Turkish Cypriotside, and his proposal dated 13 July2019 is still on the table to removetension in the EasternMediterranean.

Adding that the mentionedproposal will compose a dialogueplatform under the auspices of the

Tatar requested Anastasiades to“create cooperation andagreement with Turkish Cypriotside”

National Unity Party Leader, PrimeMinister Ersin Tatar requested theGreek Cypriot Administrationleader Nicos Anastasiades to wakeup from the dream of usurping therights of Turkey and the Turkish

Cypriot people, by using the“European Union”, and also headded that the logical way is tocooperate and make an agreementwith the Turkish Cypriot side.

Prime Minister Tatar alsorequested that the European Unionshould acknowledge the voice ofthe Turkish Cypriot people andstop the Greek Cypriot side from

usurping the rights of the TurkishCypriots.

Tatar made a written statement andevaluated the Greek CypriotAdministration Leader NikosAnastasiades’ statements on aGreek television channel.

In his statement, Tatar said:

"Anastasiades still cannot evaluatethe current developments correctly. The Greek Cypriot leader needs towake up from the dream ofusurping the rights of the TurkishCypriot people and Turkey in theEastern Mediterranean.Anastasiades is unfortunately noteager to cooperate and make anagreement with the TurkishCypriot side.

Anastasiades still avoids giving apositive response to our proposalfor cooperation related to theresources in the EasternMediterranean and calls for the EU

to intervene with the assertion thatTurkey has an aggressive attitudein the region and incites Franceagainst Turkey. However, the realaggressive and uncompromisingside in the region is themselves.Greece and the Greek Cypriot sideare making an effort to establishalliances against Turkey and theTRNC. Turkey is protecting ourrights and her rights arising fromthe agreements and theinternational law in the EasternMediterranean and is on the rightway.

The facts are evident and no onecan deny them. There are twoseparate states and two separatepeoples with equal sovereign rightsin Cyprus. The Turkish Republic ofNorthern Cyprus is as legal as theGreek Cypriot Administration.”

Geçitköy Dam - The water is so low!By Kate Cornwell .......

Water levels at the Geçitköy Damhave dropped vastly over the lastfew months due to problems withthe pipeline from Turkey which isin need of repair.

I recently visited the Dam onSunday (28th June), at a very earlyhour of the morning with my dogs, and was horrified to see how lowthe dam currently is.

I believe from what I have readthat no water has been piped sincemid January and levels are nowfrighteningly low.

Supposedly repairs are meant tostart shortly and I did see a boatout at sea for a couple of days thatlooked similar to the boats theyused when constructing thisamazing project which theycompleted in March 2014.

So hopefully it will be fixed in thenot too distant future as otherwisethe dam will run totally dry, due toincreasing evaporation and usageby consumers as temperatures rise.

Although it was slightly disturbingto see the Dam in its currentsituation it was still a wonderfulwalk – peaceful and such beautifulsurroundings – this is Cyprus at itsbest.

today and it was such a goodmorning we are thinking ofmaking it a monthly event.Everyone is welcome.

The next Breakfast Club will be onTuesday 28th July with details tofollow."

CHAIRMAN’S NOTES

TRNC RESIDENTS RETURNFROM THE UK

As we speak the first of ourmembers are currently inquarantine, no doubt lookingforward to the day they can receivea negative PCR test and return totheir ‘homes’.

We would like to thank allconcerned for their hard work inachieving this.

Those who deserve our thanksare:-

** The Prime Minister,** The Deputy Prime Minister,** Gunes Onar (MFA),** The TRNC Consulate Office,London,** CTCA UK,** The Director of Immigration,**Cyprus Paradise representatives,** Caroline Houghton (TFR).

** Catherine Hayes and** Mike Diplock (BRS) withoutwhose 11th hour interventionwould have meant that somemembers would not have beenauthorised for travel.** Finally, Kemal Bagzibagli whowas at Ercan to assist the clearanceof the passengers.

GREEN LINE CROSSINGS

At the moment only TC citizensand other authorised persons cantravel to the Republic of Cyprusfrom the TRNC. Once this changesyou will be notified.

REPATRIATION FLIGHTS TOTHE UK

As we have previously mentionedin our weekly updates, because ofthe above situation, althoughrepatriation flights to the UKcontinue, they are only beingarranged with those returningbeing for strictly health orhumanitarian reasons. It is notsufficient simply to want to returnto the UK when you have aproperty in the TRNC where youcan stay until restrictions are lifted.

We have worked closely with theBritish High Commission to assistsuch persons, but as you wouldexpect there are people who haveclaimed to have been in touch withthe BHC to arrange repatriationwhereas in fact they have not.

PCR TESTING

Ali Çaygür, the Undersecretary ofthe Ministry of Health, said in astatement that those people whowant to have a PCR test will haveto go to Lefkosa (Dr. BurhanNalbantoğlu) State Hospital andshould apply and pay at theOutpatient Diagnosis Centre.

Tests can be completed during theday or the next day, Çaygüradvised those with NegativeResults should carry the receipt forthe TL 300 payment with the PCRtest result.

RESIDENCY – UPDATE

The new online Residency systemhas now been introduced. Aspredicted, there are a fewanomalies in the system such as,

** People needing to find the UKdenomination (in Turkish- Birleşik Krallık)** Previous file numbers not beingrecognised** Passwords being misread(letters and numbers)** Inability to upload documents(too large)** Inability to upload details of‘private insurance’** Credit/Payment Cards notbeing accepted

The list goes on!

In the next weekly update, I willshare a FAQs document which isbeing constructed to answer thequeries that have already beenidentified to us, as well as thoseyet to be resolved.

Following that document, we willbe looking to run a weekly clinicspecifically for residency issues atthe HUT, to assist people whohave these or other problems. Thiswill be strictly by appointmentduring the afternoon. We arecurrently asking some of ourmembers who are computerliterate to assist.

For those members who are stillwaiting to complete yourResidency application from before‘lockdown’ please call thefollowing number to arrange anappointment at the Immigrationoffice in Lefkosa :

continued .... BRS News - 30th June 2020In addition, meetings with theForeign Ministry including withthe Undersecretary and the ForeignMinister / Deputy Prime Minister,in relation to the status of BritishPassport holders, holding bothproven and theoretical entitlementto residency, and their subsequentconditions for re-entry into theTRNC. Additional information wasrequested by the Foreign Ministryin relation to some BRS members, and that information was given tothe Foreign Ministry in the eveningof the same day of their request.

Several meetings have been held atthe Prime Ministry, including thePrime Minister to discuss theposition of British Passport holdersand their impending (as at thismoment in time) return to theTRNC.

Following these meetings letterswere sent to both the PrimeMinister and Deputy PrimeMinister, confirming all of thepoints that had been raised, so thatthey were in possession of all ofthe relevant information when theissues were discussed and are infact continuing to be discussed atCouncil of Ministers meetings, where the actual decisions aretaken, and will be reviewed on aweekly basis.

Weekly video conference callbriefings are continuing to be heldwith the British High Commissionto exchange updates, andinformation.

Any confirmed informationresulting from any of the aboveevents will as always, be passedonto the members as soon as it isreasonably possible.

The level of correspondence fromboth members and non-members

asking for help, has increasedconsiderably, following the re-launch of the upgraded ResidencyVisa application system.

Looking across all differentcommunication channels, we havereceived and responded to around200 requests for assistance and themajority of these have beenconcluded with a few issues stillbeing worked on.

In addition to the above, theconditions of entry and quarantinerequirements raised an additionalnumber of enquiries and willcontinue to do so for theforeseeable future, given thefrequent changes that will behappening to risk designations ofindividual countries going forward.

A noticeable number of both theresidency visa enquiries andconditions of entry, particularlyfrom non-members simply needsthe originator to be provided withthe correct information, rather thansupplying assistance based uponinformation that is clearly wrong.

Currently we are completely up todate with incomingcorrespondence, although a limitednumber of enquiries have beenacknowledged, and are on hold, pending clarification from therelevant Ministry, as and when wecan receive it. None of these are ofan urgent nature.

In view of the overall number ofenquiries from non-members, weare continuing to plan for someadditional ad-hoc clinics, whichwould allow for a greater numberof renewals and specifically newmembers to be able to join. Furtherdetails of these ad- hoc clinics willbe published at the appropriatetime.

The following request has beensubmitted from Ugur Culhaoglu –aGeneral Legal Counsel employedby the TRNC Ministry of ForeignAffairs.

Dear BRS members,

I'm a legal adviser of the Ministryof Foreign Affairs. I am writingthis post in the knowledge of PeteWilkins and Mike D Esentepe.

For a while ago, some foreignerswho were homebuyers in TRNCbut had some serious title deedproblems, contacted the Ministry. Then I have been given work tosolve this problem.

Now, a new Law is being drafted, and it is about to be ready verysoon.

I kindly request you to contact me,if you (or someone you know) hadany kind of problem on acquiringtitle deed. We know most of theproblems, and the solutions aswell. Still, your experience maylead us to think wider. You cancomment below or pm me or emailme.

Thank you in advance.

Ugur Culhaoglu

Please bear in mind that Ugur is alawyer employed by the ForeignMinistry to draft the necessarylaws. Ugur is not offering hisservices here to act as a lawyer onbehalf of any individuals, he hasmore than enough work to do,without looking for more. Ugur ismerely trying to ensure that thenew Specific Performance Lawmeets all our concerns goingforward.

There is as you would expect a

very wide range of experienceswhen buying property in theTRNC. Some experiences aregood, some are bad, and some inbetween. It is very important fromyour own personal experience, particularly if it was disappointingto say exactly why in your opinionit was so. And then beingconstructive, from your ownexperience, what you would like tosuggest, to make it better. There isa genuine opportunity to make adifference here. The new SpecificPerformance Law specificallydeals with the procedural methodunder which property can bepurchased, and I am sure we allagree that needs to be looked at.

This new law will not deal with oraddress any issues relating tolawyers involved in the process ofpurchasing property, so it ispointless making any reference toany lawyers involved.

You may send any feedback thatyou would like Ugur to considerwhen drafting this new law [email protected] allfeedback will be collated andforwarded to Ugur for review. Itwill be quite sufficient to just listthe key issues. If Ugur needsfurther information, then he willcontact you directly.

The problem with our dog, is barking

By Ahmet Abdulaziz ....

As I have mentioned previouslyhere, we have a pitbull dog. Wehad taken it when just a few weeksold, some 7 years ago. Now wehave got a fully grown up, rather agrowing old pitbull in our house.

He is a very disciplined dog, whoobeys the commands given withcomplete sincerity and honesty, except when he finds a stray cat.Cats simply make him lose histemper. So much time has passedyet his behaviour regarding thecats has not changed at all.

Although I have never been ongood terms with our dog, duringthe last couple of years we havedeveloped a love/hate sort ofrelationship and understanding.

But what is disturbing to me is hisbarking. According to my wife, heis a very quiet dog. I agree, hedoes not bark too much, but whenhe does bark, I simply find itunbearable. Though all in thefamily does not want it to beannoying, I feel disturbed, hearingthe sound of his barking.

It has been said that barking is away of communication for dogs. They bark due to various reasons.Their barking is a form ofcommunication with other dogsand also with humans, particularly

I take him for an outing everyevening. For the rest of the time,he remains inside our smallgarden. The garden is encircled byiron rods and a big iron gate sothat he cannot get outside. As Isaid earlier, he is a verydisciplined dog, so he usuallyabides by the rules and does nottry to run away.

However, there is one particularsituation when he loses control ofhimself and starts barking at thehighest pitch. That’s when someother dog passes on the small roadin front of our house. There is adistance of about 5 meters betweenthe iron gate and the road. Peopletake their dogs out for a walk inthe evening and pass by our house.

At that particular moment, our dogstarts barking. He starts barking

when the other dog is still notclose and continues until he turnsaround the corner. It is this barkingthat really disturbs me. Since thereare many people who take theirdogs out in the evening, theconstant barking really upsets me.

The barking of a dog is considerednormal when some other dog oranimal is nearby. In such asituation they try to communicatewith the other dog, telling themnot to enter their area. But theremust be a system ofcommunication between the dogs. The constant non-stop barking issimply not the way ofcommunication between animals.

Unfortunately, it's not our dog whoconstantly bark in such situations,I find other dogs also doing thesame. They bark from inside theirhouses or territory.

However what I have noticed isthat it is only the one which isinside the garden, who barks. Theother ones who are out for a walkdo not bark in such a situation.

This I believe is a one waycommunication, a way to expressthe feelings, and asking the other

too, but what I see is that almostall the dogs which go by our irongate, every evening are the same.It is their daily routine. Theirowners take them out for a walkdaily at a particular time.

Our dog too must be recognisingall of them. But then what makeshim bark every day to the samedogs, with the same message.

Why does our dog daily considerthe same dogs a threat, andconsider it necessary to bark atthem?

That is my question.

"Running to my car to get my hat Isnapped my Achilles tendon andwas taken to the Kolan BritishHospital in Lefkosa.

They gave an MRI scan within 15minutes of arrival confirming myinjury and I met Dr TayfunBeyazatli the surgeon who spokevery good English and explainedthe process and offered many

words of reassurance and operatedon me the next day and by 4.00 pmI was recovering in my hospitalroom. Before the operation, I hadno real pain from my tendon butsome discomfort and my doctorsaid this was often the case.

I was amazed at the speed of thewhole process and the food wasvery good with very attentive staffand I have to say the care wasexcellent.

Can you imagine what wouldhappen in the UK? Getting an

appointment to see a consultant toarrange an operation, especiallynow with the pressures onhospitals. It's very pleasing toexperience the process I undertookand reflect on what happened.

The doctor was excellent the staffwere always courteous and tried tominimize any discomfort I had andthe cost for my treatment was veryreasonable.

A big thank you to the KolanBritish Hospital!! "

Controversial injury time penalty wins it for Dörtyol

By Richard Beale......

Sunday June 28, 2020: K-PetLeague 1 ; Dörtyol Stadium.

A hotly disputed 95th minute penaltysuccessfully converted by AYBERKPAYAS gave Dörtyol all 3 points afterEsentepe thought they had stolen apoint with a 90th minute equaliserfrom 16 year old HÜSEYİNDEYNEKLİ.

It was such a shame that this first everLeague match between these two sidesplayed at Dörtyol should end incontroversy, as the whole matchthrough was very competitive butplayed in good spirit.

To cap a bad day for Esentepe, notonly did they lose the points, they hadHüseyin Ermış red-carded forprotesting against the penalty and forthe second match running had aplayer, young Şükrü, carried off on astretcher then on to Hospital.

Regarding the penalty award, I was ina good position on the touchline,Osman chasing a through ball insidethe area was just beaten to the ball bythe toes of the onrushing Esentepegoalkeeper Onur, the Dörtyol wingerfell over the goalkeeper's legs. For meclearly not a penalty, but without theuse of VAR, Referee Mr TufanÇerçioğlu, who up to that incident hada reasonable match, could only givewhat he appeared to see. Esentepeplayers hotly disputed the decisionjostling and shoving Mr Tufan whosent off Hüseyin Ermış for being overexuberant, also booking goalkeeperOnur. AYBERK PAYAS expertlyslotted home the penalty with the lastkick of the match and again Mr Tufanwas surrounded by the Esentepe teamwho were joined by the Coaching staffand replacement bench. The Officialswere escorted from the field by the

Police where they were confronted byangry and frustrated Esentepesupporters.

Dörtyol just about deserved the pointsbut not in this way, they had inOSMAN ŞANVERDİ the gamesoutstanding player, he tormented theEsentepe defence. Dörtyol's AYBERKPAYAS led his line well and cameclose to scoring on a number ofoccasions. In the Dörtyol midfield, their experienced and combativemidfield duo ÖMER GÜNER andISKENDER YENİCERİ generally hadthe edge over the Esentepe midfield.

For Esentepe I thought theirdiminutive 16 year old forwardHÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ was their starplayer, not only did he score his firstever league goal, he came close toscoring on a few occasions and wasvery energetic dropping back to helpout the defence and midfield.MAHMUT İZOĞLU and NERSINOSMAN had sound games at the backfor Esentepe.

Injury struck Esentepe were without 3of their most experienced playersVurkan, Şahın and Eray, Coach KiliçAli fielded his strongest available side, with the replacement benchresembling a kindergarten. A surprisewas the return of goalkeeper Onur whohad been out for a long while with aback injury. Not looking fully fit andvery stiff in his movements he waswell protected by his defence, all thesame, it was good to see the big manback in action.

This win keeps Dörtyol in 6th place, apromotion "playoff" spot, aremarkable achievement for a club thatwas promoted from the BTM Leaguelast summer. Esentepe are in acomfortable 8th place, but with orwithout the injuries and a really tough

match against 4th place Yalova nextweek, they could get dragged into therelegation "playoff" places.

A packed Dörtyol Stadium on awarm June evening with thankfully acooling breeze saw the visitors settlequickly with Şükrü in the 16thminute fastening onto a Kaanthrough ball seeing his shot blockedby the advancing Dörtyol GoalkeeperEsad.

After the half hour mark, Dörtyolwere the more prominent side withwinger Osman at the centre of mostof their attacks with his tricky wingplay. With their talisman Ayberk alsolooking on song Esentepe were beingput under pressure.

Dörtyol took the lead in the 37thminute, again good work by Osmanon the right cutting inside along thebyline before squaring the ball acrossto SELKAN DENIZ at the far postto sweep home. HALF TIMESCORE 1-0

Esentepe made two earlysubstitutions with Mustafa andHüseyin Ermış replacing Hürkan andsurprisingly Emre Mutlu who Ithought was Esentepe's best player inthe first half

Dörtyol were a whisker away to

Result : DÖRTYOL SK 2 ESENTEPE KKSK 1

increasing their lead in the 55thminute when a tantalising left wingcross from Selkan was inches infront of Melih and Osman.

In another Dörtyol attack, Osmanplayed in Ayberk who ran on intothe area but screwed his shotagonisingly inches away fromOnur's right hand post.

Little was seen of the Esentepeattack, as they were doing theirutmost to remain in the game theircause was not helped in the 78thminute when they lost teenagerŞükrü carried off on a stretcher aftera challenge, and then subsequentlyhe had to go to Hospital.

With time running out for Esentepethey stole an equaliser in the 90thminute following great wing playfrom substitute Mustafa who got tothe right sided byline, beforesending in a low cross whichHÜSEYİN DEYNEKLİ first attemptrebounded off goalkeeper Esad butthe 16 year old grounded on thefloor reacted quickly to poke therebound home. 1-1

Immediately from the kickoffDörtyol were awarded their penaltythe rest is history. FULL TIMESCORE : 2-1
