During your second session, you notice that one of your participants appears distant. She shares that the presentation wasn't inclusive in its representation of men. Moreover, she thought some of the comments made were male bashing and pushing the feminist agenda too much. What do you do? (Come up with 2‐3 options)
Group 1: But I’m not a feminist
One of your participants holds a senior position in the organization, higher than anyone else in your group. You notice that she's holding back because she doesn't want to overly influence the discussion. However, whenever she shares her thoughts, they are so insightful that the group truly benefits. What do you do? (Come up with 2‐3 options)
Group 2: The expert in the room
Earlier in the week, the country is gripped by another national tragedy involving political violence. The topic for the week's discussion ‐ women's leadership ‐ doesn't match the energy of your participants who seem quiet and depleted. You're also worried about the BIPOC women in the group. What do you do? (Come up with 2‐3 options)
Group 3: Off topic
One of your participants shares that she was abused as a child. In an effort to support her, participants share painful stories about coming out to their family, domestic violence, and sexual assault. As the meeting time comes to an end, you want to wrap up the conversation in a positive way. What do you do? (Come up with 2‐3 options)
Group 4 & 5: The speed of trust
• Diversity of group (levels, roles, age, departments, ethnicity, etc.)
• Think about those who expressed interest in Amplify
• Time commitment• Impact on organization• Personality and style• Commitment level
• Look outside your area• Don’t include your boss or people who report to you
• Make sure you understand the program
• Talk to colleagues if more than one Lead at your institution
• Don’t ask all your best friends• Have a plan• What else?
Things to Consider
3/18/21: Put together your draft invite lists• Share with your supervisor, internal HR, and/or senior leadership team
• Include a rationale for each• Be prepared to go back and forth
4/1/21: Send out first batch of invites with a due date• Send out reminders• Extend additional invites
4/16/21: Participant registration due 4/30/21: Amplify program launch date
Suggested Process and Timeline
1. Refine and update potential list of participants2. Draft an initial recruitment strategy with timeline
3/18/21: Get approval for list
• Who needs to approve it? By when?
4/1/21: Send out invites
• Do you have a first and second invite list?
4/16/21: Participant registration due
• When is your internal deadline to meet this one?
4/30/21: Amplify program launch date
