MAKE A DIFFERENCE,A Visit to Mashal School

By Maryam Noor Malik 23rd October was an unusual day from the verybeginning. As we drove towards ourdestination, The Mashal School, troubles keptinterrupting us with frequency, but we did notfalter. First, there was no flash drive to carry the

presentation we had prepared on BasicHygiene. No USB in the 21stcentury! Ultimately, we copied it into a memorycard and took a card reader with us. Then westopped by at one of our friends where her

mother gave us some delicious breakfast. We setout once again, but thats when problemnumber two hit us! We had no poster paints forface painting. CNG was low and what wasmore, it was 9 in the morning and the markets

    were closed!

Thats when I took the matter in my hands! I convinced the shopkeeper to open the shop especiallyfor me, and finally we got our paints! Just when we thought that everything was now perfect, weremembered that we have a bat but no ball! We looked for shops on our way and eventually reachedBari Imam where a little kid helped us find a ball! Then came the trouble of finding the school. When

we had roamed about Bari Imam for a good half an hour, we decided to call someone from the schoolto come and show us the way. While we were waiting, the principal of the school Mrs ZebaHussain herself showed up and led the way! Finally we were at the school.Maam was kind enough to introduce the whole school to us. The school comprised of two sections,

one for toddlers and one for slightly older kids. After the orientation, Maam took her leave and thestudents gathered in the yard for the lecture. Dr Zahra gave them a lecture on Basic Hygiene. Thekids were interactive and listened to the lecture with great interest. After the lecture there was aquestion-answer session which showed that the kids understood the lecture and were ready to followthe advice given to them. The lecture was followed by a Poem competition in which little kids sang incute tunes, the poems they knew. Their excitementcould be seen from their faces. Kids looked lovely with

colorful stars, butterflies and flowers painted on theirfaces. Little kids were seen flaunting their faces whenwe took the pictures. In no time, all students hadgotten their faces painted. They looked excited and

very cute. After face painting, chocolates weredistributed to them and they were particularlyinstructed not to throw the litter around. At around 2oclock, we took our leave among numeroushandshakes and goodbyes. It was heart-warming to seehow they climbed up the wall to wave us and some ofthem even followed our car and we had to stop again.

All in all, it was a successful event and we all broughtwith us memories well remember for times to come.
