Making Main Street

Work

“Our Main Streets tell

us who we are and

who we were, and

how the past has

shaped us.”

www.preservationnation.org

Until the second half of the 20th century,

downtowns were vibrant and exciting

places to be – virtually everything you

needed was downtown…..

What happened?

WHICH LED TO THIS…………………

………………and then this.

This had a negative impact on

downtown economies,

ultimately affecting the value

and condition of buildings, the

tax base, jobs and municipal

investment.

Our Journey

How Are We Going to Pay For

This?

Transportation Enhancement Grant Phase I - $300,000 (2003)

Transportation Enhancement Grant Phase II - $600,000 (2008)

Community Development Block Grant - $500,000 (2009)

Project Bid - $2.3 Million

Value-Added Architecture/Engineering implemented

Removal of Phase III

Final project bid - $1.383 Million

Groundbreaking 2012

“Never doubt that a

small group of

thoughtful,

committed, citizens

can change the

world. Indeed, it is

the only thing that

ever has.”

Margaret Mead

Just one example of what a Main Street Program can do!
