ABSTRACT
Literature is the expression of the ideas, feeling or the event that happened
in human life. In the literature people can find pleasure in expressing emotion and situation, whether real or imaginary. Novel is one of literary works that was taken as the object of the study. It is because it contains the factual event that really happen in daily life or only the imaginative of the author obsession on her life. Novel also represents the condition, conflicts and situation of human life and it makes the readers can absorb the problem solving from the characters or event in the novel, and also useful for solving their own problems. Those are the points strongly interesting to analyze literature, especially novel.
This study focused in analyzing Isabella Swan’s loneliness because it has functions such as to give sketch about the real condition, conflicts and situation of the story. There were three statements of the problems. Those were: 1) What was Isabella Swan’s loneliness?, 2) Why did Isabella Swan feel lonely?, 3) How did Isabella Swan solve her loneliness?
This study used descriptive qualitative because it was intended to find out the concerning with Isabella Swan’s loneliness, her reason felt lonely, and how the way she solves her loneliness. The object of the study is “New Moon” novel written by Stephenie Meyer that the data are taken from paragraphs, dialogues and an event related to Isabella Swan’s loneliness. Moreover, the writer used objective approach because which concerns on the literary work itself without discussing the author’s background of life
As result of this study shows that Isabella experienced loneliness, they are: (1) Doing nothing: Isabella only sit and she was musing about her faraway boy friend, (2) Antisocial: Isabella was absent in her job and she avoided by her friend Jessica, (3) Be warier: Isabella never thought to kill herself and she always remembered the advice of her father when she wanted to buy motorcycle where in front of Markses’ yard.She felt lonely because of broken heart with Edward her boy friend. She overcame her loneliness by (1) doing positive activity: Isabella had a good behavior and never missed a day of her school and became a diligent student, (2) making social contact: Isabella went to watch the movie with her friend Jessica, and visited Jacob’s family, and also sent email to her mother Reene, (3) increasing adrenaline: Isabella walked to a group of felons, and asked Jacob to teach her to drive a motorcycle, and also cliff diving.
