Dr. Seuss’ First Book

•Getting his first book published, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street required a great degree of persistence - it was rejected 27 times before being published by Vanguard Press.

•He created the pen name (pseudonym) Dr. Seuss, intending to keep his real name, Theodore Geisel, for more serious work. Seuss was his middle name and he put Dr. in front of it because his father had always wanted him to be a doctor.

A Quote from Dr. Seuss

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at all of life's realities.''
