WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR
AN EASTER MESSAGE FROM PASTOR LARRY!
Volume XXI Issue 4 April 2015
(Continued on page 2)
Greetings in the Mighty Name
of Jesus! Well this is my first
article as your new Interim
Pastor. I am excited to be at
Baptist Chapel Church. I am
grateful for the support and
encouragement the staff,
deacons and all church
members have shown me and
my family. My calling is to
preach, teach and live the three
things that I know to be true:
Jesus is real!, God’s Word is
True, People are all that
matter!
Easter is almost here. We have
several very special Worship
services planned. Please do
not miss the blessing-and
please bring somebody!
One of my most memorable
Easter’s took place in the
sands of Iraq. I was sent there
to share the Good News of
Jesus Christ our Lord and
Savior to Soldiers. “My plans”
that Easter morning were to
conduct a Sunrise service near
the ruins of Babylon. We had
worked hard to plan special
music and we expected a large
crowd. God had other plans!
As our convoy set out that
usually there were no more than
one vehicle or squad)-I would
then put my arms around them
and I would pray, pray, pray!
The service rarely lasted more
than a couple minutes and then
off I would go to the next
vehicle or location.
A few years later I met a Soldier
at the gas station on Fort Bragg.
I did not remember him but he
remembered me. He gave me a
huge bear hug and said,
“Chaplain I’ll never forget that
Easter message you gave to us
in Iraq-It was the best Sermon
ever!” The Lord really taught
me something through that
experience. God will use His
Word for His Glory. He took my
plans of a spectacular Sunrise
Service Extravaganza in
Babylon and changed it to
multiple service on the
highways and byways well of
the beaten path. Our God knows
best and His Word will never
return void.
Brothers and Sisters-let us make
sure that we don’t get
complicated, too overwhelmed
or too busy this Easter season.
First things first! The Main
morning we anticipated just a
couple hours drive south to our
destination. Eight hours later –
we were still on the road and we
never made it to Babylon. You
see there was hostile action and
many overpasses and bridges
w e r e b l o w n . B u t m y
Commander was a resilient
Warrior (he is now a three-star
General). He used that day to
roam the front and motivate
many Soldiers and Marines who
were in the thick of the fight.
That day we literally made
dozens of stops. Each encounter
was not a long one. But when we
stopped I did my best to gather
Soldiers and conduct what were
probably the shortest Easter
Services in history. I share with
you my Iraq Easter message: I
would read to the Warriors from
1 Corinthians 15:2-3, “For I am
delivering to you first of all
that which I received; that
Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,
and that He was buried, and
that he rose again the third
day according to the
Scriptures.” I would then gather
the Soldiers into a Holy Huddle
(careful to not get too close-

Thing and that is this: Jesus died
on the Cross for our sins! Jesus
has risen from the dead, Jesus is
the Risen Lord and Savior. Let
us Praise His Holy Name, Let us
Worship Jesus, Let us live for
Him! Hallelujah and Amen!!!
In closing-I ask that you pray
hard for our Easter services-and
Remember– do your best to
bring Somebody!!!

NEWS FROM OUR WMU DIRECTOR
There are always opportunities to help others. The others that we can help might be those we see most
Sundays in church; those we see when we go visit at the nursing home or hospital; those who live across
town or across the county, state, or country; those we see “begging” on street corners; those we remember
from long ago and even those we will never see or even meet. As Americans, we are blessed to live in an
area that we have freedom of religion, freedom to go and come as we please. Not everyone has this amaz-
ing freedom that we take for granted. But, do we take advantage of the opportunity that we have to help
others, in a Christ-like way? Do we give of our time, talents and even financially without wondering if
they are taking advantage of us? Do we wonder if we gave to the neediest or to someone who really does
not need our help? How do we know who truly needs our help?
“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember
the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than receive.’” Acts 20:35 NKJV
Would you miss out on a blessing from God because you wondered if they really needed the help you
could give?
Baptist Chapel has a number of on-going ministries, including helping with the Christian Food Bank of
Salemburg, saving pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill, collecting prescription sun-
glasses, Health Kits for Migrant workers, Relay for Life, helping families during the holidays, collecting
items for the Agape Pregnancy Support Center and other valuable opportunities. Each year there is a
“Parade of Tables” with all donations from that day going to help a needy family or a mission opportu-
nity. All of these projects touch numerous lives in ways we may never know.
There have been scheduled a few opportunities to assemble salvation bracelets. This project helps the
Christian Farmers Outreach with an international ministry to lead the lost to our Lord. Those who partici-
pate may have put colored beads on a rawhide string that is later used to explain the plan of salvation to
someone in North Carolina, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan or any one of more than 80 countries. Imagine
that……you might have had a part in someone saying YES, I have asked Jesus into my heart. And that
someone you will never meet, how awesome is it that we can be available to help others bring the Word to
other countries. You are invited to be a part of this ministry. There will be other times that the beads will
be assembled. For more information on how the beads are used and where they go, check out: http://

The Great Commission: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have com-
manded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. Matthew 28: 19-20.

NEWS FROM OUR SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Spring has finally arrived after a cold, wet winter. According to several of the local weather stations, Feb-
ruary was the fourth coldest month on record. I imagine that Spring will be welcomed this year more than
in years past. The evidence that Spring time is here is all around us. Tree leaves are starting to bud out,
lawns are beginning to green up, animals are getting more active and growing season is upon us again.
The days are longer, and the temperature is quickly rising. Spring is a time for the earth to shed the dull-
ness of winter and renew itself with the colors of the summer.
The other sure sign of Spring is Easter. The Easter holiday is a very special time. There can be no Christ-
mas without Easter. Most religions have a person that the religion is centered around. Christianity is cen-
tered around our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A few of the others are as follows: Buddha – founder of
Buddhism, Mohammed – prophet of Islam, Gandhi – Hindu reformer, Confucius – founder of Confucian-
ism, etc. The list could go on and on. Most all of these religions are based on what most would consider
good moral standards to live by. So, what is the difference between these religions and Christianity? The
difference is that we serve a risen savior. All of the other religious leaders mentioned above are simply
people that have lived and died. Jesus left his Father and home in Heaven to be born into a sinful world
ruled by the Prince of Darkness to suffer and die on a cross so that we might all be saved. Jesus rose from
the dead on Easter morning to break the chains of death. Jesus’s death paid the penalty for sin and his res-
urrection gave all who believe eternal life with him after our physical death. John 3:17 tell us “For God
sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
The dictionary defines religion as “the outward practice, service of a god”. You can have religion through
Hindu, Islam, Buddhism, etc. You can also have religion with God. Christianity is not a religion with God
but a relationship between ourselves and God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. I think
that a lot of people are confused about the difference between having religion and having a relationship.
Anyone can have religion. Religion is going through the outward motion for others to see. Religion is
what a lot of the Pharisees had in the New Testament. Religion is going to come no closer to punching
your ticket to Heaven than having donated a large sum of money to the church building fund. Coming to
church on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening isn’t going to do it either. The Bible tells us that a lot
of people that think are going to Heaven are not going to be there. The only way to Heaven is through the
blood of Jesus Christ. In much the same way that we see a renewing of the Earth during Spring, Jesus’s
blood renews us and gives us new life. Referring back to a sermon message several weeks ago, if you are
born once, you die twice; if you are born twice, you die once. .
Easter is a celebration of God’s sacrifice, grace and mercy. Can you imagine what it must have been like
for God to watch his own son be mocked, beaten and hung on a cross to die? God is a merciful God but he
is also a just God. There was a price to be paid for sin, and God provided a way for that price to be paid
through the blood of his own Son. Each time we reject Jesus’s call, it is like we are the ones that are driv-
ing the nails through his hands and feet. Jesus has the kind of love that no matter how bad we behave,
mistreat others or reject him, He is still standing there with open arms to welcome us back like the father
welcoming home the prodigal son.
Sincerely,
Scott Brown

ARISEN
The women left at first light that morning,
Walking through spring flowers in bloom;
In their sadness they didn’t even notice
They were rushing to get to the tomb.
They carried some sweet-smelling spices
That were used in preparing the dead.
He whom they loved had been crucified;
Ever since they had been filled with dread.
The tomb had been carved in a mountain;
A massive stone was used for the door.
When reaching the site, both were afraid
Because the stone wasn’t there anymore.
Trembling, they inched their way forward
To take a closer look inside;
“Someone has take the body,” they exclaimed,
And both broke down sobbing, and cried.
An angel spoke to the two women
“I bring you greetings on this fine day.
The Lord is not here. He has risen.
Come and see the place where the Lord lay.”
These words have stood throughout the years,
Bringing real hope to all who would hear.
Jesus rose from the dead as He promised;
Only believe and you, too, can share.
