Student voice refers to the values, opinions, beliefs, perspectives, and backgrounds of students in a school, and to
instructional approaches and techniques that are based on student choices, interests, passions, and ambitions. All
students should have the opportunity to contribute to decision-making processes relevant to their lives and their
future. Research shows that dropout rates, student achievement, and workforce readiness will improve by integrating
student voices in the classroom and in society. Young people must have a more powerful voice in order to combat
the systemic inequity within the education system.
