EARTH ROTATION AND REVOLUTION
Name: Janneth HuntDue Date : August 12, 2014B.Ed. 3738
What Is Earth Rotation?
• The earth is always moving in the solar system
• This movement is called rotation.• Earth rotates about this axis once
each day (approximately 24 hours).
EARTH ROTATION
RESULTS OF ROTATION
Day and Night.– As the earth rotates on the axis one
half faces the sun, this half experiences day while the other half experiences night.
High and Low tides.
• This occurs when the earth spins and the sun and the moon pull it. One force is usually stronger than the other
Wind speed and Direction
• Wind on earth comes from different direction (North, South, East and West)
• Different places would get stronger surge of wind as a result of the earths speed of rotation.
WHAT IS EARTH REVOLUTION?
• The earth's revolution refers to its movement around the sun. while the EARTH revolves around the sun, it also rotates about its axis thereby exposing various parts of the earth's surface to radiation from the sun at different times leading to different seasons for different parts of the earth' surface
• Each orbit by a member of the solar system is its revolution. A revolution is also called a year. The Earth takes 365.25 day to revolve around the sun
RESULTS OF THE EARTH’S REVOLUTION
Seasonal variations (varying lengths of day
and night).Summer, Winter, Autumn and Spring.Solstices and Equinoxes
SOLSTICES The “solstice” is the day of the year when
sunlight is furthest north or south of the equator
Our summer solstice occurs on June 21st, the first day of summer.
Our winter solstice occurs on December 21st, the first day of winter
SOLSTICE
EQUINOX• The “equinox” occurs twice a year when the sun is directly
overhead at the equator• On the equinox, the hours of daylight equals the hours of
darkness.• Seasons in the northern & southern hemispheres are opposite
EQUINOX
