EndNote and RefWorks:Introduction EndNote and RefWorks are bibliographic
management programs which help you organize citations and format bibliographies in different formats (APA, MLA, specific journal styles, etc.)
EndNote is an application which you install on your computer, meaning your citations are stored on your machine.
RefWorks is a web-based service, meaning your citations are stored on the RefWorks server.

Accessing EndNote
EndNote: In order to use EndNote you or your department must purchase a license. Note: Some departments may already have licenses.

Getting Started: EndNote
Opening an EndNote library Go to File > Open > Open Library and do one of
the following Select from the list in the drop down menu Choose a .enl file from the Open dialog box
Creating a new EndNote library Go to File > New Name your library and save it from the New
Reference Library dialog box

Creating references manually: EndNote Go to References > New Reference Choose the appropriate Reference Type
from the pulldown menu and fill in the fields Close the reference-EndNote will
automatically save it

Importing citations from PsycINFOInstructions Perform your search and select the citations you
wish to export to EndNote In Results Manager
Select Results Fields : Complete reference Result Format : Direct Export Actions – Click SAVE The Direct Export screen will launch.
Select Export results to EndNote EndNote will launch Select your library and click the Open button, and EndNote
imports your citations.

Importing citations from Web of ScienceInstructions Mark the references you wish to save Click Export to Reference Software
In Internet Explorer this will automatically launch EndNote, simply select the library you want to import to.
In Firefox open with EndNote and proceed as with Internet Explorer.
If your browser prompts you to open the file or save it to disk, select Open.
Note: I found this process to be much easier in Internet Explorer than in Firefox

Inserting files in an EndNote reference Open the reference for editing Choose References > Insert Object > Choose File Locate the file and Insert it Each EndNote reference can contain only one
graphic or file attachment. If you insert a second graphic or file, it will replace the first one
EndNote recognizes at least these formats: Audio files (WAV, MP3); Microsoft Access files; Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Project, Visio, and Word files; Multimedia files (MOV, QuickTime); PDF files; Technical drawing files; Text and HTML files

Using EndNote with MS WordCite While You Write (CWYW) In EndNote, choose a style from
Edit > Output Styles > Open Style Manager In Word, place your cursor where you want to insert the citation.
Go to Tools > EndNote X > Go To EndNote In EndNote, select the citation to insert. Go to Tools > Cite While
You Write > Insert Citation EndNote automatically formats the citation in the selected style
and places the bibliography entry at the end of the document. Note: You can change the style of your bibliography in Word at any
time. Go to Tools > EndNote X > Format Bibliography. Then select the style you want and click OK.

RefWorks: As long as you are a University of Washington faculty, staff, or student, you have free access to a RefWorks account through the UW Libraries Catalog.http://catalog.lib.washington.edu/

Getting Started: RefWorks
Creating your account and logging in Click on Login from the navigation bar or go
directly to http://www.refworks.com/refworks First-time users select Sign up for an Individual
Account

Creating references manually: RefWorks Select References from the pull-down menu
toolbar. Choose Add New Reference Choose your output style (e.g. APA) from the View
Fields Used By menu Next to Ref Type select the type of reference you
are entering (e.g. book, journal, dissertation) Enter the information and click Save when finished
Note: Green checked boxes indicate recommended information for your output style, but are not required for saving your reference.

RefWorks In Results Manager
Select Results Fields: Complete Reference Result Format: OVID Actions – Click SAVE Click Save at the File Download prompt. Select the location where you want to save the file, name the file, and Save.

Select References/Import from the toolbar. Select OVID as the data source and PsycINFO as the database Browse to find the text file and click on Open Click Import

Importing citations from PsycINFODirect Export (Coming Soon!) Perform your search and select the citations
you wish to export to RefWorks In Results Manager.
Fields: Complete Reference Result format: Direct Export Actions – Click SAVE Select Export Citations to RefWorks and
Continue The export will open RefWorks if it is not already
open and automatically import the references.

Importing citations from Web of ScienceInstructions, p.1 Perform your search and mark the citations you to export to
RefWorks Click on the Marked List icon when you are ready to export. On the Web of Science Marked Records Output Options Form
Leave the bold fields checked Check the abstract field if you want it included Leave the Field Tagged option selected and click the Save To File button Click the Save button to save the .txt file to your computer.

Importing citations from Web of ScienceInstructions, p.2 In RefWorks.
Select References/Import from the toolbar. Select ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) as the data
source and Web of Science as the database. Browse to find the text file and click on Open Click Import.

Inserting files in a RefWorks reference This feature is under development by
RefWorks and will be available in the future but is not currently active.
To attach files: Locate the reference you wish to edit. Click on the Edit link to open the reference in Edit
mode Click the Browse button to locate the attachment
to add Click Add Attachment to upload your file.

Using RefWorks with MS WordWrite-N-Cite, p.1 In order to use this feature, you must first download
the Write-N-Cite utility. Go to Tools > Write-N-Cite Inserting references
Open your MS Word document Launch Write-N-Cite (an icon is automatically put on your
desktop when you download it) In Word: put the cursor where you want to insert a
reference In RefWorks: Click Cite next to reference you want to insert

Using RefWorks with MS WordWrite-N-Cite, p.2 Formatting the bibliography (keep your Word
document and Write-N-Cite open) In Write-N-Cite: Click on Bibliography > select
the Output Style you want > click on Create Bibliography
