Materials and Custom DesignWe are stair designers, fabricators, and installers. We handle a wide range of materials including paintable and stain grade wood, exotic woods, and metal balusters. Custom work is our specialty and we can even create unique, one of a kind items. If you have something in mind or have even seen a design in a magazine, talk to us. We will work with you to develop just the right look for your home.

Custom Work We can coordinate the design and installation of your stairs with the builder of your new home, or renovation of your existing home. Our computer aided design department can provide creative ideas or work with your architect.

Tread: The upper horizontal part of a staircase, the actual step you walk on.

Riser: The vertical part of a staircase.

Starting Step: The first tread and riser of the staircase.

Nosing: 1. Tread Nosing: the hori-zontally projecting edge of a stair tread, overhanging the riser. 2.Nosing/Landing Tread: Located around balconies/overlooks for bal-usters to rest.

Cove Molding: A decorative piece of trim moulding usually under treads, nosing, or box newels to cover joints between treads and riser, and etc.

Rake: The slope or angle of the staircase.

Handrail: Horizontally or on stair rake, to be grasped with the hand for support when walking up and down the staircase or overlooking balco-nies. This sits on top of balusters and attaches to newel, rosettes, or columns.

Fittings: Transition pieces of hand-rail so straight handrail can change heights or directions.

Shoerail: runs parallel with handrail that is plowed for placing balusters.

Fillet: a thin flat piece of wood to fill plowed handrail or shoe rail between balusters.

Newels: The chief support piece for the balustrade system. These are usually larger and heavier than balusters and are located in criti-cal stability points of the balustrade system and balcony areas.

Baluster: the vertical decorative closely spaced wooden/metal pieces between newel posts.

WARRANTYCompleat Stair Company offers a one year limited liability from defective materials or workmanship on products. Compleat Stair Company is not responsible for any misuse or improper use of products and no warranty will be honored with regards to safety and performance of materials and staircase. Installation of any products purchased should be installed by experienced and qualified person(s) according to construction industry standards in your area.

Only specified stair parts and staircases are determined for exterior use. Storage and use of all products are the responsibility of customer. Parts and staircases should be stored out of weather extremes including but not limited to: extreme humidity, temperatures, rain, and etc. These extremes can cause the following: delaminating, checking, warpage, raised grain, and discoloration. When staircase is installed, proper coverage of treads, risers, and stringers should be applied to prevent damage by customer. Coverage is available for staircases for an additional charge. When parts are installed they should be finished as soon as possible.

Many species of woods are prone to age fast, especially when exposed to sunlight. This is a natural tendency for wood, and will continue to age even after a finish has been applied. The process can be slowed down by storing materials at room temperature in a dark area, and applying finish as soon as possible.

Compleat Stair Company reserves the right to modify design or specifications to either improve products or enhance manufacturing without notice.

PRICINGThe current LIST PRICE supersedes all previous price lists. Quoted materials hold a one month guaranteed price, unless customer changes materials, and is subject to change without notice.

Freight is the customer’s responsibility. If you require freight, please arrange for pick-up with Compleat Stair shipping department and your specified Freight Company.

TERMSCustomer responsible to report any damage or incorrect shipments within 48 hours of receipt of any product. Discount terms are privileges, not a right, and will be strictly adhered to. Returned checks are subject to our $35.00 fee plus any bank fee charges. We reserve the right to charge interest for late payment beyond com-pany established policies with customer. Outside Sales accounts are subject to a deposit, and remaining balance is C.O.D. All special orders (wood species, specific dimensions and non stock items) are on prepay status and are non-refundable.

LINEARLinear products, such as handrail, cove mould, basecap, linear riser/stringer materials, will be shipped to requested length, if possible. Otherwise, linear products will be shipped and billed to the next longer length available.

QUALITY STANDARDSWe use custom grade lumber, wood is a natural product, and therefore, different wood species have varying natural characteristics. Orders that require quality above this high standard will have an additional charge.

RETURNS APPROVAL: Returns can only be made on stock merchandise and must have prior approval from Compleat Stair Company. A return # is required in order to accept any returns. Consult your salesperson or an in-house sales person.

CHARGE: Merchandise with proper paperwork approved for return is subject to a 20% restocking charge. Merchandise without paperwork is subject to a 40% restocking charges. We reserve the right to not accept returns without proper paperwork.

FREIGHT: The customer is responsible for freight on all returns.

CONDITION: Merchandise must be in good, saleable condition in the original carton, if any. Custom orders and cut, painted or otherwise modified merchandise will not be approved for return or credit.

TIME: Returns must be made within 90 days of the invoice date. Discontinued items will not be accepted.
