Born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1983, Ana early started to explore the notion of space and creativity through various ways of expression, either drawings, lego models, making her own toys and photography. Due to both parents

incentive and brother artistic background, the creativity was always explored in a ‘self taught way’, having major influences by her brother photography career. / 2001 / After an erratic attempt in Civil Engineering

for two years, soon realised how important creativity was in her life. / 2003 / Therefore, decided to shift her graduation into Architecture. Whilst in University, was awarded with two honour scholorships (best architecture

student) and was often invited to be a speaker in conferences and seminars. / 2007 / Went to Holland in an Erasmus Program where developed a passion for old industrial sites and their possibilities and opportunities

within the city, upon which theme the Master Thesis was about. / 2009 / Was invited for several projects including the conception of two museums (Eco-Museum and Costumes Museum) and regeneration of an

old Theatre District in Lisbon. / 2010 / Ana was awarded with a grant from the Portuguese government to have an internship abroad. Through this grant, Ana collaborated at Henning Stummel Architects for 8 months, working in several projects from Stage A to Stage D. / 2011 / Started to collaborate with Horden Cherry Lee Architects, Ltd, being involved and responsible for planning information (reports, GAs, coordination) of various

projects (residential tower, office buildings in Canary Wharf, Masterplans). / 2012 / Lecturer at Architecture Conference with The possibilites of industrial aread for the future of the city, organised by Universidade Federal

do Rio de Janeiro - Brazil and Universidade Lusófona - Portugal.

LX FACTORY, LISBONcreative district, 2008-2009

LOCATION Lisbon, PortugalAREA ~ 20,000 sqm

Invitation and jointventure project involving the regeneration of an old industrial site. This approach, sustained by a complex and dense investigation, is one of the various responses to reintegrate this neglected area into the urban and city network. Using the existing buildings for a proposed complex of small creative industries units, a theatre and a exhibition centre, this will allow to maintain and enhance the industrial legacy of the site. One new proposed building will follow the archetype of an industrial facility, creating a permeable element to the surrounding areas. As a result of this work this project was invited to be presented in a special designs’ event at the industrial complex. The future of this area is still under discussion, trying to avoid the real estate speculation and transforming this industrial site into luxury homes.

Workshops / Residential Units, keep the archetype of the linear and long volume of a factory building. Subtraction small volumes out from the main one will allow the permeability of this main element, creating walk-through passages (ground level) and amenity spaces for each of the workshops / dwellings (first level)

ECOMUSEUM, ALCANENAtraditional activities complex, 2009

LOCATION Lisbon, PortugalAREA 10,000 sqm

This was an invitation by the municipality of Alcanena to develop and improve the Museum’s newtowrk of the council. The project is placed in Serra de Santo António, in the outskirts of Alcanena (centre of Portugal) , which is characterized by the rural landscape and traditional activities. The main challenge was to merge the project into the surrounding landscape. The site has a steep topography which was dealt by creating a series of independent volumes, stepped from each other, allowing open spaces in between. The museum aims to bring out rural memories with the help of traditional activities existing in the region, such as: weaving, bakery, a cheese industry, archeology, speleology, gastronomy and stone work.

Level 1, individual units to accommodate the various traditional activities Existing Site, steep plot surrounded by a strong rural identity

COSTUMES MUSEUM, ALCANENAtraditional costumes museum, 2009

LOCATION Alcanena, PortugalAREA 200 sqm

This was an invitation by the municipality of Alcanena to develop and improve the Museum’s newtowrk of the borrow. The project is placed in Serra de Santo António, in the outskirts of Alcanena (centre of Portugal) , which is characterized by the rural landscape and traditional activities. The municipality had asked to keep as much as possible of a characterless existing building. Due to the requirements of the museum and the unsuitability of the existing building, was decided to keep only its structure, working a whole new envelope. This allowed to give a strong identity to the museum as well as addressing the requirements needed to preserve old and delicate costumes.
