Analysis of Contents Page.

Page 2: Analysis of Contents Page

This contents page comes from the magazine Brass Band World. It is a magazine which suits the genre Bands and Orchestra, which isn't a well known genre, or popular one at the most.

Their institution is Impromptu Publishing Lmt, based in Manchester. They work independently, as a small business.

On the contents page, there are 15 stories shown, which shows the magazine has a basic to proficient amount of content in it. The contents are sections into columns, which makes it easy to follow and understand. It is simple, and easy to follow. The layout doesn’t necessarily match the house style, because the front cover was very basic, whereas this is more in depth.

The font used on the contents page here is also san serif. This portrays that despite the genre, the producers are trying to make this modern, and unique. The subheadings for each story are in red, and their page numbers in black. They are bolder than the rest of the text, therefore it is easier for the audience, and will then be easier for them to find pages. There isn’t entirely very much white space on the contents page, however it is still simple and basic.

The masthead for the contents page reads, “in this issue” which shows that it is wanting to be clear. The font used for this is serif, which is a different style to the rest of the font used in the magazine. This change shows that they’re trying to appeal to different audiences, and using a range of ways to do this.

There aren’t really any images on this contents page besides these four. None of the stories have linking photos, which may make things difficult because readers may want something to portray to them who it is. Images bring characteristics to a page, and I feel this lacks in it. When I make my music magazine, I will want to make sure I use a variety of different images, to make my contents page interesting and lively.

This bar which is situated at the bottom of the contents page takes up about one quarter. It contains details and information about the magazine, and their institution. It takes up a lot of space on the contents page, which may display that they didn't’t have much to show, therefore they covered it with a bar of information. It isn't necessarily relevant for the contents page and would be more suited near the back of the magazine, for when the reader has finished.
